A song from The Beatles 1966 album, "Revolver," this was written by Paul McCartney (but attributed to Lennon/McCartney.) Only McCartney and Ringo Starr were involved in the recording, with McCartney singing and playing the clavichord, piano and bass guitar and Starr playing the drums, tambourine and maracas. It is an early example of "baroque pop." (For SOTU 642, where one of the options is son...

YEE-HAW, Seasonistas and Cowpokes! Dagnabbit, if this ain't the introduction to Season of the Ukulele #640. Yessiree, there ain't no better place to cure a broken heart than on the back of a horse, so slap some bacon on a biscuit and let's go ... we're burnin' daylight! (With big thanks to Mr. Jim Bob Tinsley ua-cam.com/video/aYUI06cRqZY/v-deo.html for providing the musical accompaniment.)

Beautiful rendition! (And great to see that Seamus thinks that cat's place is on the table - just like my House cat.)
A beaut laid back version!
Many thanks for the listen and the kind words, John!
Being a youngster myself the version I’m most familiar with is by Chris Montez. Sorry to hear of your recording problems Val but I’m pleased you persevered and brought this to the season, it’s lovely.
Well, the Chris Montez version is also the one that I'm most familiar with. Many thanks, Graham ... and no worries about the recording problems; they gave me a chance to add special effects, which I love doing, even though it might annoy everyone else!
I felt like it was a nice change of scenery, having to go for the inside night shoot. I need to change my scene more. I think I'll find a fitting place to play this week!
Yes, I'm always a bit unsure about the pronunciation of all these Australian places, but the mysterious names only add to the attraction of the country. Thanks for taking me on this trip, Val!
Thanks to its First Nation people, Australia has some wonderful place names ... and I don't know how to pronounce them either. Many thanks for the listen, Sabine!
An oldie I've never heard before. Thanks for introducing me to this tune, Val!
I hadn't heard this one either before I attempted to sing it, but it's obviously an Australian classic. Thanks so much for the listen, Sabine!
Hahaha, I love the disclaimer in the description. I love love love Chiu Chow Chilli oil in every pasta, rice, soup that comes my way. Highly recommended!
Thanks for the listen, Sabine! (I have never had Chiu Chow Chilli oil, so am obviously missing out big time!)
Sad news indeed, but this is a superb tribute, Val!
That's kind, Sabine! It was actually surprisingly hard to do and I don't think I did it justice!
I love this song, and one day I'll give it a try myself. Not today, though. Great work on the chair!
Many thanks for the listen, Sabine. It's a great song to sing .. you should definitely give it a go! (I should pass on constructing a chair, though ...in my opinion, it's not easy!)
I've never heard the spoken bridge. I learn something every day. Thanks for educating me, Val!
I had never heard that spoken bridge either, I only came across it by accident when I was "researching!" Many thanks for the listen, Sabine!
Lovely cover Val
Many thanks for the listen and the kind words, Andy!
Classic Bacharach and David. You can’t go wrong Val 👍
Many thanks, John! (Actually, I can go wrong all the time ... but it HAS been raining a lot!)
I do like this song a lot. Love it, actually! But I sang it so much when I was younger that I can't sing it any other way except in a silly way. You have made this sound very lovely, Val. And I love looking at the wet leaves. Especially the ferns. That's a gorgeous little corner in your garden! Sweet photo of Seamus there.... planning his next kill, maybe? ;--)
Haha ,... and many thanks for the listen and the kind words, Joo! I don't think Seamus was outside for long enough to catch anything today because it started raining again. (In the last week, I have had two lizards, a shrew and a mouse to deal with ... and I've a horrible feeling that something went into hiding behind the fridge and I won't know it's there till it starts smelling!)
They seem to have been falling on my head constantly since July last year. Such a lovely song from a great old film, smashing cover Val, thanks for going to the list straight away.
Many thanks, Graham! (We have had SOME sunny days lately ... but every sunny day seems to be followed by about three rainy ones.)
Very nice, enjoyable performance of a great old classic song.
Thanks so much for the listen and the kind words, Andrew! (Gosh, I suppose that it DOES come in the "old" and "classic" category now ... I can still picture Paul Newman and Katharine Ross riding round on that bike!)
Have you thought about putting a card in the window at the post office Val?
No, I was thinking of a phone box! (Do they still have phone boxes?)
Ha ha, yes that would work too. That’s true though, not many phone boxes left these days.
I was very sad to hear of Francoise Hardy’s passing 😢. I think you did Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles before didn’t you Val?
I did ... yes! Thanks so much for the listen, John!
This is a new song to me. Lovely playing and singing.
Very many thanks for the listen, Melissa!
Great version! The lyrics mention "hot" so many times that temperature will rise inevitably. :)
Haha ... and thank you!!!
I really don’t know much of her music, but this was sad and lovely! 👍
Thanks so much for the listen, Brian! (She belonged to the "Yé-Yé Girls" of the Sixties, but she was also a talented songwriter.)
Loved it. Your interpretation was lots of fun.
Thanks so much for the listen and the kind words, Andrew!
Great song, must do this myself one day, when I get round to it! Well I’d say you must be the opposite of a lazybones Val. I hope the garden chair is comfy, it looks sturdy enough.
Well, I think I was trying to prove to myself that I'm NOT a "lazy bones" ... although, actually, I AM! Many thanks, Joo!
Thank you . . . thank you very much Val.
Thanks so much for the listen, Jim!
Lovely Val, I think you could have been on stage….maybe you are/were.
Hehe ... thank you, John! (I've never been on the stage, apart from the school nativity play ... I just enjoy being melodramatic!) Many thanks for the listen.
FANTASTIC! I had super spicy Tom Yum noodles today! That was pretty hot!!! This song is sooooooooo sick! 😆I need to play it one day! Your rendition has the perfect heat in the most ....captivating and HILARIOUS way, Val. It made me smile. Really enjoyed this thoroughly, thank you so much!
Nothing like a "sick" song! Not sure I've ever really listened to the words before. Many thanks, Joo!
As others mentioned, thank you for including the spoken portion! Well done, Val!
Many thanks, Clark!
i am tearing up, Val. This really moved me a lot. Francoise Hardy was so beautiful, and so tall....so tall that she is now somewhere up there looking down at us still struggling here to get this business of living right. (I had to look her up online and that's when I realised how tall she was. Hope you forgive me for my shallow comment on her. ) Your soft, gentle picking is just right for your heartfelt singing. Beautiful. Thank you so much. Please come back and bring us more songs, if you can.
Well, she wasn't THAT tall ... I just checked. She just struck me as a strong, independent woman who would go on for years and it came as a shock to learn that she'd died. (Many thanks for the kind words, Joo!)
@@limousinlil 179cm is tall!
@@piekia I read that she was 172cm. (Not that it's of any significance now, sadly!)
Sounds and looks beautiful!
Thanks so much for the listen, Ylle!
Fine performance, great to hear the spoken section.
Thanks so much, Ylle ... that spoken section came as a complete surprise to me!
Who knew it had the spoken section? Glad Elvis didn't do that bit. I am not sure he'd ahve done it in a convincing way. I never got Elvis... though I did like "In the Ghetto"
Yes ... I never "got" Elvis, either! Many thanks for the listen, Berni!
I hope you can get some lazybones rest in that chair and heal your back! Sometimes, it's hard to stay stagnant as it can feel like complacency, but sometimes it's much needed. The trick is finding that balance. I do love me a lazy day, but I also love those big accomplished days as well! I feel like you've earned a lazy one!!
Many thanks for the listen and the wise words, Chris! (I haven't been able to get much benefit from the chair yet as we've had a couple of days rain since I put it together.)
Well done Val. This is a regular rotation Beatles song for me, and one of the first I memorized..
Very many thanks, Andy ... I hadn't realised that you were a Beatles fan as well as a Kinks fan!
Never heard the spoken section before. It really adds to the song. Very nicely done.
Thanks so much, Andrew!
You've inspired me to get outside! I like the vintage video effect on this one, but more so I like the slow playing and emotion you conveyed. So many Beatles songs I know and love.. it's always great to hear renditions of 'em. Thanks, Val!
Many thanks, Chris ... and thanks for a great week! (It's always good to get outside to play in the summer.)
Like Jim, I love this song too. I love that you included the chair asssembly, especially awesome to include the sounds of the intricate operation, and that "what am i doing it wrong" expression!😂 Isn't it just mind boggling following instructions to set stuff up? Well done Val!!! Now you've got a new chair to lounge in the sun playing us more songs! Wonderful! This really brightened my morning, thank you! ( now go make yourself a cup of tea and give your back a rest)
Many thanks, Joo! (I managed about one day's use of the chair before it started raining.)
I really love this song and your performance. Thanks for bringing it.
Many thanks for the listen, BJ ... and great to see you around!
I love playing this song Val. I love listening to it as well. Thanks.
I think your version would be a hundred times better than mine, Jim ... many thanks for the listen!
It's cool to hear the spoken section! It's like they were afraid singing is not taken seriously, so Roy and Lou needed to include the speaking part as well. ("Listen, kid, if you are lonesome, better drop me a text message straightaway!" 😅) Lovely bring, Val. Thank you!
Many thanks, Joo! (I've a vague idea that I read that the song had been written by a couple of ex-vaudevillians ... perhaps it seemed natural to them to add the spoken word.0
Beautiful version Lil!✨🎶
Very many thanks!
I don't think I have ever heard this one before, despite my Dad's business partner playing hundreds of songs on his banjouke. Fine cover and I like the depth of that Bari - it manages to keep the treble and bass in equilibrium.
I don't think I'd heard it till fairly recently, but it's become a very popular ukulele song since Steve Martin sang it with Bernadette Peters in "The Jerk."
This was beautiful Val.
Thanks so much, Andy!
Well done Val. And those are some beautiful flowers too
Very many thanks, Andy! (Those lupins are past their prime now and need dead-heading.)
Awwww this is a sweet one, Val. Seems so innocent, but it has a heaviness to it. Thanks for sharing... I can feel your heart coming through. Big hugs!!
Very many thanks, Chris! (I was intrigued to learn that the song came from Haiti ... I'd never really thought of its origins.) And hugs back!
Great job. Love the Ukulele. 👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Oh, thank you, Sir! I am aware of your channel and honoured by the visit! (That uke is a one-off, made in someone's shed in Bristol .. you will never see another!)
Absolutely amazing videos sharing dear friend ❤️ Really enjoyed watching and listening to this beautiful song 😍🎧🎤🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸 Super big big like thumbs up 👍👍👍👍 See you again take care Keep intouch ❤️
That's very kind .. thank you!
Thanks Val. A sweet song that I used to sing to one of my cats! :)
Ah, I'd never thought of singing to my cats ... well, only indirectly if they happen to be there when I'm playing and then one of them always clears off! Many thanks for the listen, Paul!
Oh I haven't heard this one since I was a kid. Thanks for reviving some memories!
And thanks for the listen, Berni!
Ah yes I remember this old one. I think Seamus sings this to the mouse he’s chasing! Nice one Val.
Haha! Many thanks for the listen, John! (Actually, I never found whatever it was that Seamus was chasing. He tends not to bring in mice - fortunately - it's more likely to be voles or shrews. I can usually rescue the voles, which are sweet and cuddly and squeak really loudly. I think he's got completely the wrong idea of his role as a cat ... he's supposed to rid the house of interlopers; not bring them in!)
Sigue siendo mejor q varios
Muchas gracias!
I know this song from The Jerk (although I’ve never seen it apart this song with Mr Martin and the lovely Ms Peters). I’ve not even heard Eddy Vedders version. But at least I have Val’s version 👍
Actually, I don't think I've ever seen "The Jerk" and I'm not sure I've ever heard Eddy Vedder's version; so I can't really vouch for the veracity of "Val's version." But many thanks for the listen, John!
Eddie’s version is good (that whole ukulele album is decent, if you like EV). The Jerk is a stone cold classic and worth a watch if you have never seen it. Steve Martin at the height of his powers
Ooh, I know this one don’t I? An oldie but goldie Val.
Well, I'm sure you must know it, John! (Well, I hope you do, otherwise I must be REALLY old!) Many thanks for the listen.
