Japanese Maple Unboxing [Spruce & Maple Nursery]
I love your unboxing and your garden and tree video. I am also doing bonsai for nearly 12 years now ❤ PS did you lost some weight? You look so snatched 😊 Lovely trees 🎉
Ive been doing bonsai for 1 year. It’s kicking my ass lol
Ryan is a class act! Very nice trees!
🤣🤣🤣
You got some nice trees. Packed well too.
Thanks 🙏🏻
I can't never, ever find a timberlake pine bark mulch as fine as yours , If I buy timberlake pine mulch I have to shift it , the Daddy's Pete soil enhancer has smaller pine bark than timberlake or Nature's helper soil conditioner ... 😢
I have a wood chipper that I used to use before I found this Fine pine bark mulch. It was hard work and time consuming. 😢
@@MapleNutz Yeah, very, and hard on your back as well... I wish I had a woodchipper but I don't have as many trees as you do. I asked this guy at the Asheville farm market what soil did used on his trees, he told me Daddy's Pete soil enhancer, shifted Seems like a popular brand locally but I find it kinda heavy, the Nature's helper looks like the mulch you are using without all the hassle and back pain. JR maples use wallace farm clay breaker soil conditioner and you see how nice his trees are
Probably the greatest difference, from what I've seen so far, is that Shirazz tends to occasionally form relatively large, fully red reversions (something like 2:02), while GGW is very stable.
I did found the difference between them during spring and I posted the video on the Maple Nutz Facebook Group. You should probably go there and see. ✌🏻🍁🥜
This a reupload?
Yes, I had to make this video shorter. 1hr was ridiculous. Sorry about that my friend.
Hello! Question, does this tree go green in the summer or does it maintain the reddish purple color?
Mine has stayed redish this past two growing seasons . I have it under a 50% shade cloth.
@@MapleNutz okay, thank you so much!! It’s so so beautiful
It’s one of my most precious trees in my garden and it is why I have it under a 50% shade cloth. If you get one, you will certainly not regret my friend. 🙏🏻
@@MapleNutz I recently started my collection, I have 4 maples now, so I’m going to wait until next spring to get one from Maplestone when he releases it again :) cannot wait. Thank you!!
You will not regret buying from them. ✌🏻🍁🥜
thank you!
You're welcome!
I got a moonfire and fountain of youth from maplestone it's impressive!
I'm sure they are, it's Maplestone. I never had a single complaint from them. Their products are second to none.
Kind of reminds me of Mila or Kristen star. Would you rate it over those two?
I love both Mila and Kristin star bur nothing compared to how much I love my first flame. I have this thing in full sun getting blasted and it taking it like a champ. I’m gonna rate them all three from least favorite to favorite. 3 Kristin Star, 2 Mila and 1 First flame.
How are you liking it so far?
I love my Bronze age. Fairly sun tolerant here in Zone 8a NC, colors are amazing. It’s definitely not a fragile piece of shit like an Aureum or a Sensu. Don’t get me wrong here, both are beautiful trees but very weak here in this zone and I don’t know if you can tell but I don’t have space for weak trees here in my garden. I’m pretty much maxed out. Stay Nutty ✌🏻🍁🥜
@@MapleNutz Thanks for the replys. I'm looking to pick up a couple more trees and trying to narrow things down. You're channel is always helpful. I'm in Nashville 7B. Been looking at Bronze Age, First Flame, Pink Princess, Naguri Nishiki, Johin, Noel, Allen's Gold, and maybe Mila. Probably a few others I'm forgetting but its hard to narrow things down lol.
@@_Sunmaker_ all of them are great picks, I can see you’ve been doing your homework. ✌🏻🍁🥜
Didnt you use to have a sir happy video. How's that treating you
@@kylegrunden5977 i have a sir happy and it’s doing ok. Much better than the snow shittens, which it dies this year. I’m pissed about that but then again, snow shittens shouldn’t exist anyways. Sir happy just put up some nice new growth and Im enjoying it grow.
I liked it.. as long as the context is double checked by a human, I mean, I've seen AI searching through the web for info and returning wrong information.... Soooooooo.... do we use this on our maples? 😁
The answer to this is simple. Are they in pots? If the answer to this is yes then no, u don’t need it because organic material holds on to nutrients. if you have it in the ground at your residence, most likely u do need it because when builders grade the soil prior to construction they take away all the good soil and replace it with sand. Sand doesn’t hold on to nutrients at all, Humic and Fulvic acids is recommended in this case.
tell the AI great job! lol
I will! 😂😂😂
Well, I was hoping for some advice as to best add that… Obviously some very rich compost would be a good place to start, but seems like they mentioned the importance of humic and folic acid, but stop short of telling us how to add that
There a product you can add called Humic-12. The instructions on how to apply it is on my latest lawn care video where I bombed my lawn with 5 products from Greene County fert and Humic-12, (which contains both Humic and Fulvic Acids) was one of them. ua-cam.com/video/l1wwz9ODMoU/v-deo.htmlsi=561wnetSrp3CbNN4
Hey bro... question, I have a smaller one, half that size, and the variegation is not so great... kind of similar to the branch at 5:51, so most of the tree, especially the upper part, has just some splashes of variegation, there are no big chunks like yours. Now... could it be the young age of the plant? Will it change later on? Maybe they over-fertilized in the nursery so the upper new growth came out just green, if that's the case, what can I do? I started chopping off branches that didn't have any variegation, but still, 1-2 leaves with splashes are not really worth keeping either, right? Should I wait more years to see what happens? Should I give it more or less sun - does it play a role? I'm even considering getting a new plant, but there's no nursery closeby, so I have to gamble ordering it online from the other side of the country, or even from abroad... Thanks Master, hope you can provide some well-needed knowledge here... And greetings from Greece!
@@kostastheo2043 my only recommendation is simple. They do revert so u must take away all branches that aren’t variegated but don’t over do it as you can kill your tree. This will take years to do depending how much the nursery neglected them. Have it in morning sun only or under a 50% shade cloth if full sun is all you can give it. I take mine to full sun only when it’s not too hot, so during the summer it reminds protected under my shade cloth. I’m gonna talk to Micah Norcom, the owner of Maplestone Ornamentals about your tree and see what he has to say about it. You aren’t the only one that had approached me with the same issue. Also, keep in mind that if you want a perfectly looking tree you must buy it from a reputable seller such as Maplestone Ornamentals. They take care of their trees like no other, ensuring that what you are getting is top notch, high quality trees only. If you can afford to purchase another one, I suggest you to try MO.
@@MapleNutz Thanks!! I'll do as you instruct, be patient with the pruning (I'll mark the bigger branches with zip ties and cut them in winter to play it safe) and if you get any interesting info from Maplestone, please share! ❤
@@kostastheo2043 you got it!!!
What is the bright green maple on your right side?
It’s an Acer Shirasawanum Aureum
Very cool trees!! Love the pink new growth, looks super nice with the roses by the bench. I think I spied a Fire Chief Arb in the Monrovia pot? I just scored 2 myself, great looking conifer also looks good with your roses 🌹and plant collections
Yes, I do have a fire chief. I’m digging it so far. Thanks Urchin!!!
What’s the difference in this and Shishigashira? Just the pink color on the tips?
Leaf size, pink new growth, growth habit more resistant to heat are just to name a few. Hupps Dwarf is very different and in my opinion superior than a shishi.
Oh that pink looks so cute ❤ it reminds me of a mix of mikawa yatsubusa and shishigashira somehow went Beni maiko on the tips 😂
I think so too! ✌🏻🍁🥜
Purely subjective, but my GOAT maple is: Aka-shigitatsu-sawa. In the spring when the new growth, as the name suggests, looks like a snipe flexing its wings and rising out of a swamp. I've never seen anything quite like it, not just in the JM world, but in all of horticulture. And the rest of the year your are treated with gorgeous reticulated leaves and stunning fall colors. Oh, and of course, this is the tree that all your Ghosts originally came from.
I got a shigi but it was one I got at a discount because it suffered a massive die back. It is definitely very sun tolerant. It’s in full sun and it’s looking in pretty good shape.
Beautiful! ❤❤
Thank you Tamara. Stay Nutty my friend ✌🏻🍁🥜
I've been looking for many months and it is always sold out. Those are really pretty leaf colors on your trees. You're doing a great job growing on these amazing trees
Thanks John. Try one of the nurseries I put in the description. Who knows, you might be lucky.
Enjoyed this as usual. Keep them coming.
Thanks Bruce, will do my brother. ✌🏻🍁🥜
Some Japanese maples are being listed as invasive species. Because they reproduce like Bamboo by their roots.
I will asure you, no JM has the growth habit of bamboo. Bamboo is a nightmare.
Lovely tree again ❤ can’t wait to see it develop over the time.
Thanks. You will see it grow as I will continue posting showcasing videos. I hope u become part of my journey as I go through ups and downs here in my garden. Stay Nutty ✌️🍁🥜
@@MapleNutz I am a fan since the start of the year when I discovered a video of you unboxing. But to shy to post 😂 I also hope to see you grow (not your body size you are tall enough but the channel of course 😂)
Haha, thanks. I will be paying a close eye on your channel and see your progress through time. Im sure you will do very well. Keep doing it and eventually it will come naturally. You’ll see.
@@MapleNutz I started posting my trees on my channel just to share, so don’t expect much. But I will post every month or so some tree updates. I have another channel that I really want to grow (FoodCat) it is about technology for the house in German 😂
That’s actually a pretty good idea.
Great video! Thank you a lot! It was very helpful ❤ Please keep doing such videos with another kinds of maples! Maybe Garnet or Firecracker)
Thank you very much. I will keep those two in mind. Stay Nutty ✌️🍁🥜
That one is pretty sweet!
I’m digging it so far. Best gift ever from Doug McDougal. 🤩🤩🤩
That color this late in the season?!
My Hana Matoi still looking pretty amazing, a little faded but nonetheless in great conditions.
Dizzy warning a lot of spinning in this video!
I’m so sorry for this. I did an updated version of this video. I will do an even better one in a few. Stay tuned my friend.
@@MapleNutz =))
btw you got some nice trees =)
Thank you very much. A lot of them are roasted this year. This growing season was very brutal for maples here in zone 8a NC.
thank you for this!
You're so welcome! I will be posting an updated version of this.
Of course, mine doesn't look as good…. Thanks again for sharing.🌞
Mine looks pretty crispy right now, so don’t feel bad. It’s been a horrible year for Japanese Maples in general. Everyone is hurting in one way or another. Keep your head up and hope for a better year next year.
Last year mine was orange in full sun. This year its yellow in the same spot.
I don’t know about u bro, but this year has been really rough for JMs. 😖😖😖
Thanks for the content, a beautiful tree!! It’s been such a tough summer, how is your autumn moon doing? My 11 JM’s are doing well - but I did lose a few plants around my garden due to the heat and drought 🥵
I know. It’s been a real rough year for everyone’s garden. A lot of my JMs are roasted.
What size pot is that?
2 gal
Still crushing it, Derek.
Im trying to crush it bro. It’s tough lol
Autumn Moon is a stunning Japanese maple to have, they are a must have in your collection. I love my autumn Moon so much I bought a second one.
Im planning on getting a second one as well. 🤩
If you can only pick 1 would you get Lileeanne's Jewel or Hana Matoi? I have too many maples already LOL.
Why are u doing this to me? Lol. 🤔 it’s a tough one. Id pick Hana Matoi because it’s a lace leaf
How often do you water JM?
Also, is it ok to use miracle gro perlite for this mixture?
Any perlite is good. I water them when it needs it. I don’t have a set schedule. Right now, because of the heat, I find myself watering every other day. Potted plants only.
So much rain this summer, Im getting a little bit over water signs but what can I do, I cannot put all my maples inside
Here is the total opposite. No rain for months now. I’m struggling so bad. A lot of my maples have tapped out already.
Nice! I just bought (actually, rescued) one from a large box store that had dried, dead leaves at the edges. Got it home, gave it a little water and it's looking pretty good now. I live in the PacNW costal area so I hope it does well!
Nice, you can post about it on the Maple Nutz Facebook group. We would like to hear the story behind your tree. Thanks 🙏🏻
Thank you for sharing your videos! Very informative. I just got 4 small Japanese maples and recently have very hot and humid weather here in the East Coast. Should I put my young maples in the shade during the day? Thank you!
It depends on the cultivar. Some can take full sun and others can’t. Best you can do is to have them on morning sun only.
@@MapleNutz Thank you so much for your response!
You got it. Please feel free to comment if you have further questions. Stay Nutty my Friend ✌🏻🍁🥜
Are you going to ask for a refund again?
Oh no. This is one of my best looking JMs right now. Check how it’s looking now. ua-cam.com/video/z4DwfDhSxNs/v-deo.htmlsi=iN3OSWP5XXBQHygm
It’s not a puppy

Such a nice tree ❤ I also ordered me one mikawa yatsubusa today, can’t wait to unbox 😊
Post pictures on the Maple Nutz Fb group. We would like to see your maples. Link in the description of the video. 🤩🤩🤩
@@MapleNutz unfortunately I don’t use FB anymore since years but I can post a short you can link if you want. I already filmed some trees before to share that great hobby ♥️
Subscribed to your channel. Your mikawa is one sexy looking one. 🤩🤩🤩
@@MapleNutz thank you, that is such an honor ♥️ I really love the tree and your channel was the inspiration to finally get one. It was my most expensive tree (105€ = around 100$) and first to be ordered online. I am also a fan of your Home Depot unboxing videos, like is it save or not 😂 but after I saw you saved also the nearly dead rooted ones I got myself to order online (and it was a nursery instead of a tool store)
Keep them coming and don’t buy more than you are willing to take care for. It takes me 2.5 hrs to water mine every other day in the heat. Im ready for fall right now. Lol
Needed this about now with our blood good thank you!
Try using ZeroTol. I will be making a video of that very soon.
Good stuff!!👌
Appreciate it! ✌🏻🍁🥜
Also, mine was around the height you had it last year four years ago now it’s 15 foot tall going on 16 this year or even 17. I wish I can tag you.
Go to our Facebook group and post it bro. We would all enjoy to see it.
The tree lol
Do you plan on leaving it in a container or are you eventually putting it in ground? Also I see it put on a lot of growth. Does it still get the 15 to 20 inches growth in a growing season container grown
I believe this tree put lot more of growth. This was a field grown tree from Ms Whitmans Farm
Wait, do you have an update on this one? I miss when mines was so small and I could view it from ground level
Yes I do have an update on it. Big difference bro. ua-cam.com/video/zU1xIUCwBf8/v-deo.htmlsi=GxuT1HVn29RPrd4i
