    Hi, I bought a racket "Head" which weighs 280 grams, I would like to make it reach at least 290 how much tape do you think it will take? Thanks, great video!

    • @avetennis
      @avetennis 3 місяці тому

      Well to get it to 290, you’re gonna need 10 grams of tape. Usually they have a measurement of the weight per length mine was 1cm = 1 gram. The important question is though is how you distribute it. You don’t want to put it all on the head cause it’s gonna throw off the balance of the racket, you’re gonna have to put some in handle. You can either even distribute it if you want to keep a similar balance or put a little extra around the head, to make it a little head heavier. I’m glad you liked the video.

  • @jaquevius
    @jaquevius 7 місяців тому

    You’re starting to find the rhythm of tennis, which is more of a glide than a jerky stomp to get to every ball. You look so much more fluid and comfortable in this match. Also, your forehand is becoming a weapon. Very consistent and you’re creating sharper angles. Bravo!

  • @jaquevius
    @jaquevius 7 місяців тому

    You’ve stumbled onto the key to success for moving up to 4.5 in singles with your first key point. Many people call players that can do this consistently “moon ballers” or “pushers” as a derogatory statement after you beat them because they’re frustrated they can’t figure out how to handle them or do much with them. Don’t listen to that nonsense. If you’re accelerating through the ball with enough topspin to bring down that ball with such a high trajectory, then you’ve developed an effective shot. I hit almost all of my neutral rally balls this way to keep them pinned back, and wait for a short ball to attack. That’s when you can lower the launch angle and penetrate through the court. Point 2. It’s good to have a slice backhand to either change the tempo or if you’re stretched on defense, but make sure you have good depth. It’s really easy to leave these at midcourt and then you’re in big trouble against good players.

    • @avetennis
      @avetennis 7 місяців тому

      Yeah I've gotten burned several times indeed with slices that are too short, I've improved that quite a bit as well.

  • @jaquevius
    @jaquevius 7 місяців тому

    This camera angle really shows what I was saying on your last video called “improving flat serve power.” Your leading edge never approaches the ball (opening up your hand on the up swing) except the last sequence when you are trying to hit a kick serve. Go back and look at those serves. You’ll see your leading edge is approaching the ball and you get a great pronation snap. I think it’s because of your horizontal shoulder/torso rotation and the angle you are trying to hit these kick serves coupled with the fact that you’re trying to brush up, which makes you extend fully, is getting you in the correct position. Think of trying to get your dominant shoulder over the toss shoulder at max extension, which will cause you to lean sideways into the court instead of spinning around your horizontal axis. Like I said before, you have a good motion in general and many would be happy with your serve, but if you want a next level serve you’ve got to force your body to do these these non intuitive concepts, and your brain will resist a lot at first lol.

  • @jaquevius
    @jaquevius 7 місяців тому

    Honestly you have a very good service motion. Very good trophy and you don’t have the “waiters trey” that most people have to correct. You aren’t far off, and many 4.0 players (or even 4.5’s that are good athletes and do well in longer rallies) would be very happy with your serve the way it is. Here are a couple of thoughts that may help if you really want a high level serve. It’s counter intuitive, but to hit a really good flat serve you should actually think about leaning sideways into the court and make contact at the highest point you naturally can, instead of rotating around as much as you do. Also, try to hit the ball with the edge of you racquet and you will be forced to supinate at the last millisecond without even trying, if you are at max extension. The serve is so different from other strokes it’s not even funny. For groundstrokes you want core rotation with the shoulders rotating horizontally. With the serve, you want your shoulders to rotate almost perpendicular. Think of starting with your tossing shoulder above your dominant shoulder and then your dominant shoulder rotating over top of your tossing shoulder during the swing, which will lean your body sideways into the court. Of course there will be some horizontal rotation that has to occur but I find this to be a useful visualization.

  • @jaquevius
    @jaquevius 7 місяців тому

    Omg dude. Your progress is astonishing. The previous match play was uploaded 12 days before this one. Did you really play those matches 12 days apart? You hit the ball 1000 times better and your form looks like how you hit in practice now. Athletic base, excellent balance, crisp contact, spinning most of them deep and heavy, better angles. Are you sure you weren’t pretending to be bad in the previous one lol. Most people prefer to hit against solid pace versus floating balls like your last opponent. Maybe that was some of the difference? Well done and rapid improvement 👏 👏

    • @avetennis
      @avetennis 7 місяців тому

      haha, I was playing a lot of tennis this was right during the pandemic so didn't have much to do than practice and play tennis.

  • @jaquevius
    @jaquevius 7 місяців тому

    Overall you’ve got a very good service motion in general so just tiny changes and you will have a very reliable serve that can win you some easy points. Excellent tempo, trophy etc. Hard to tell if you’re approaching edge on long enough, and may be pronating too soon, which zaps some racquet head speed, but it’s hard to tell from this video. Very very solid overall though and I definitely see 4.5’s with worse form for sure. None of my business really, but I’d like to see you perfect a fully committed slice serve first, where you can really accelerate aggressively and get the ball almost every time before you move to a flat, and then ultimately a kick if you really want that in the arsenal. Once you can feel very confident that you can slice a second serve in with full commitment and acceleration, then all of the pressure is off on the first serve so you can swing out. If you tend get tentative on second serves in matches (which everyone does until you reach an advanced level), and decelerate or revert to bad form to push them in, you’ll start behind every point because as you move up, players will really punish weak second serves. A kick would be nice to have for sure, but it should be something you shouldn’t even work on until everything else is rock solid imo.

  • @jaquevius
    @jaquevius 7 місяців тому

    Very interesting to see you difference in form from practice to match play. In your previous video your forehand looked extremely solid and athletic. At the start of this match you were leaning back on most of the forehands and standing much more upright. You had such a deep knee bend in practice. I probably do the same thing so not judging, just it’s really interesting that you look like a completely different player from the most recent video prior to this. You looked much better by the end of the match btw. More confident strokes with much better weight transfer than at the start.

    I’m a 50 year old reasonable club player. Polys don’t last for me they loose tension far to fast. If you run 2 rackets the tension loss is similair with a poly if you play or not. Not many of us can afford to change strings in 2 rackets a month. I went back to multis after wasting a year using various Polys. 3 months on multis string tension is 1lb loss and settled on some polys I’ve seen a 25lb loss in unused rackets in less than 8 weeks. I use stringster and a tension meter to monitor health of strings and I would say 95% of club players are using dead polys as they string in March at the start of the season.

    you have a nice slice defensive game and this can bring you really far at club level! here your opponent was already googld and he managed to overcome your slices but it was taking him 2-4 attacking shots each time and it requires an already consistent baseline player and not easy! and, like you said in a different episode, for many opponents it will be quite frustrating to try to break your slice defense if you defended 3-4 attacks and they can exhaust and collapse physically (attacking low pace slices requires a lot of leg work!) and mentally, at least i would do sometimes!😂

    • @avetennis
      @avetennis Рік тому

      Yeah completely agree with you on that. On top of physically tired indeed it's quite mentally tiring knowing that with several opponents a shot would have been a winner or at least given you an easy short return to finish off the next shot!

  • @MrIvanbrewer
    @MrIvanbrewer Рік тому

    some good points here! and i agree the junior juniors mainly play baseline spin game and dont like variety, but in general my realization is at some point they learn how to deal with your slices and the slices dont bother a little bit better players, at some point this 12yo guy will understand that you very often hit short slices and that he need to stay a bit closer and bend the knees a bit more and then he will attack you with spin approach shots from your slices and that will be over for you… unless your slices are really super sharp. It looks your forehand is smth you can work on, if i see that you slice your forehand too often i would just start playing to your forehand 90% of time because i know that you would likely not harm me from there

    as i am on the same journey and i film myself also, here is what i would see: 1/ while there is good racket speed on many shots, Racket drop and trajectory looks quite robotic, not continuous, in a match you will not have time for this plus in addition the racket drop looks to be very “wristy”, be careful to not injure your wrist! the wrist should be very passive! 2/ the low/mid height balls from the canter court are best to be hit neutral stance. its debatable point of view, but, you started hitting everything open stance and then from 2:50 you started hitting them neutral stance and the weight transfer became much better and more obvious. It might be easier in the center of the court to transfer weight with neutral stance where it is a linear transfer vs the open stance where its rotational; then the open stance is for wider or higher balls mainly. Its all debatable, so just my pov. 3/ its really good that you dont drop your left arm and keep it high, it gives good posture and balance, i drop it to stomach and cannot get rid of this habit! 4/ easier said then done, you can always try to bend knees a bit lower at impact, but thats difficult:)

      Thanks for taking the time to write all that I appreciate it. I totally hear you on some points. Specially the bending knees more at impact. Don't really pay attention to my stance to be honest, I'll definitely put some thought into it.

      Yeah I got one. From a manufacturer in China, I worked a lot in online e-commerce so I'm always interested in potential products to sell. So I got a few of these ball machines and I'm seeing if I can reconfigure some of the parts inside of the machine to make it better.

      Yeah it was great. It wasn't a huge change. But you can definitely feel the extra weight. It's particularly good on my serves I feel, a bit easier to give the ball more speed.

    All thoae points are general, dont see you that much tight , the main reason you hit those frames i thought was because there is a stoppage in your swing in the backswing , not a continuous motion , which can lead to those mishits , as the flow is cut

    • @avetennis
      @avetennis Рік тому

      Thanks for the comment, I'll try out a more continuous back swing maybe that helps.

    Huge improvement man from when I dropped in a few months ago! To help with tightness make sure you're exhaling on each shot, this is why a lot of coaches now teach grunting to help force this exhale, other than that it's just a lack of mental trust in your shots. Not going to drop too much information as you're working with a coach now and I may say some contrasting ideas, as theres always different perspectives on things. Those few forehands you decided to accelerate a lot more on were great! I'll drop by again soon, keep improving! :)

    • @avetennis
      @avetennis Рік тому

      Thanks, I appreciate it! Yeah that's definitely a good idea. I'm used to making very little to no noise but it might help indeed to do something to make sure that I am exhaling indeed. Thanks for the tips and the support!

      Yeah definitely. Unfortunately I feel it even more now. I stopped doing regular plyo exercises, with my two daughters taking up more time, i got a little lazy and I stopped. But I'll definitely start up again cause man can I feel the difference now that i stopped. I feel slower now, I'm no longer able to reach balls like I did. So I'm definitely gonna get back to it!
