I have seen you on the other channels that you talked about and am finally over here. Look forward to more content. I've been trying to read through longer stories (Sandman, Preacher, now on The Boys) but, finding time to read is tough. Whatever you wanna showcase on here, whether its reviews/overviews, new books you're looking forward to, books that you would like to re-read, not-talked-about books (always interesting) or whatever, I'm here for it! Welcome back!

That one's been on my list to read for a while! Mad Cave has been killing it this year, I've really been enjoying what they've been putting out, definitely want to check out some of the publishers older stories
Just flagging if you're not aware - Humble Bundle has a Power Rangers megabundle running with nearly all of the main series (prior to the reboot) available, it's a great deal if you're cool going digital!

Glad to see Umbral getting some love!
Yeah! Wish Johnson and Mitten had more time to work on it, but it was really cool to see Mitten's artwork in color after being all b&w in Wasteland
Hey Bunk! To answer your question, I watched this while cooking dinner! Would love some videos about your current pull list and great indie series to be on lookout for when I go to my LCS
@@Ping_pong_lewis Long time no see! Hope dinner was tasty and you've been checking out some good ethics texts. My next video I'm doing is "the 10 best series I read on my UA-cam break", so that kind of video is coming soon! Appreciate you checking this out
Great review, Bunk.
Thank you! Still kind of getting back into the swing of things, wasn't fully happy with how this came out while I was editing, but it'll help the next few videos better
Wow this sounds awesome bunk ! I may wait for some kind of collected edition and give this story a shot. I dig the artwork too.

From Hilary Leung: "The first volume of Oni Press’s horror-fantasy The Autumn Kingdom will return for a second printing after high demand. The second printing will feature a beautiful new cover by artist Christopher Mitten using dark blue green and midnight purple along with three pairs of glowing eyes appearing from within the dense forest".
I'm so glad the series got enough love to get a second printing! Really hope everyone is able to get their hands on it
Thanks for the Review! The first time I saw Mitten's art was in the horror series that Steve Niles wrote, "Criminal Macabre" from Dark Horse Comics. Cullen Bunn always finds a way to interest me (I'm currently finishing the first Arc from "Ghostlore", a twelve issue series that already ended). I love their openings, the first phrases that set the series mood. I still remember the one from Harrow County issue 1 ("... But the witch did not died easily").
Bunn's series always deliver. They may not always be my favorites but they always suck me in while I'm reading them and I almost always enjoy them. I forgot that Mitten did some work on Criminal Macabre, I always think of that all as Ben Templesmith on the series
Welcome back! Summer time with the fam is wonderful, but isn’t it grand when the schedule returns to “normal” during the school year? I’m looking forward to you placing some new comics on my radar, just please make sure the art was either done digitally or is just very unappealing, I don’t need that temptation! I’ve had a busy art buying summer & the fall isn’t looking much better! 😂
@@CarlsCollection Summer is the best, but I'm always relieved to go back to normal. You mentioned going up to the lake with the family recently, we hit up Upstate Michigan and some of the beaches up there were absolutely beautiful! My next video is "the 10 best series I read on my UA-cam break" (title subject to change), I'll make sure to filter through the list and only highlight digital artists. Although a Lonergan series is getting a shoutout, but that doesn't matter now that you have that Turtles page
Great haul. I’ve been re-reading a lot of Loeb and Sale lately. I’ll tell you next week what else I’ve been up to.
Excited for that! Though I feel like there might be some other books we talk about more than those . . .
Say his name and Bunk appears! Glad you're back! Nice pickups. The Midnight Nation is a hidden gem that I had forgotten about. Come to think of it, I wouldn't mind seeing JMS titles get some new editions out, including Rising Stars. I enjoyed Die which is probably due to me playing D&D back in high school. I've enjoyed your reviews in the past for books that aren't necessarily mainstream, that can slip under the radar so that would be my vote.
WAVE YOUR HANDS FROM SIDE TO SIDE AND SAY! Appreciate you checking this out. I definitely have a D&D background myself and enjoyed a lot about Die, it was really the end of it that kind of threw me and left me a little underwhelmed. I had the first volume and loved it's combination of horror and fantasy to tell the story of a realm after the heroes go home. I'll definitely be highlighting some under the radar books coming up, hope they land with you!
Great finds. Midnight Nation has not been on my radar, but you sold me on it. A Rachel Rising review/overview would be cool to see in the fall. I adore that book. My wife read it too and loved it. Read it digitally and then got the HC omnibus, met Terry at the Denver Pop Culture Expo and got it signed. I may do a re-read this October.
I'd definitely suggest checking out Midnight Nation however you can, definitely don't need to jump right into the big oversize edition. Rachel Rising is actually one I haven't finished yet. I have the softcover omni (can we all agree to just call those compendiums?) and read the first 120 pages or so but the character voices weren't really landing with me again. I'll be trying it again this year, I've heard nothing but praise for that book from everyone who's read it. Thanks for checking this out!
I'm still trying to figure out if our comic tastes align. I'm not sure they will/do but I'm only like 3 videos deep. About to lock in and will circle back...
Ha, totally fair! I appreciate you checking out my videos, and no worries if it's not your thing. What books have you been enjoying recently?
I thought we replace him... OH HI BUNK! Haha, you do realize we just enjoy ya. I can't imagine there is any pressure besides James.
I don't even know what replacing me would look like. Is that when an animated tank top just talks about how good Craig Thompson books are? Dang, I'd watch that.

DDDDDDAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY DDDAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!! I'll be honest man, Book 3 completely snuck up on me. I could have sworn it was coming out in November, just realized it's coming out next week! Those are some seriously good finds at great prices. And hey, I'll be unpopular and say: I don't love Kirkman's stuff. I don't dislike it but...just not something I tend to buy. More things that I read digitally from the library.
I totally get that feeling on Kirkman, I actually own very little before picking up these Invincible Hardcovers. For the most part, I feel like he rights very enjoyable comics that are satisfying in the moment but don't always last with me. That said, I think he's really good at some things, ESPECIALLY the big reveal coming off of a page turn, which I think in a medium like comics is a real skill that can absolutely lead to amazing moments. But for the most part, I think Kikman is a digital/library read for me.
Welcome back! Midnight Nation is fantastic!
I feel like there are two kinds of comic readers: people who love Midnight Nation and people who haven't heard of it yet. It's been a few years since I've read it and I can't wait to reread it. Hope everything is going well with you!
@@bunkmastab Hope all is well with you all!
Glad to see you back on your channel! Picked up Die the same way but yet to crack it open. You must finish Monsters. One of the greatest comics ever imo.
Thank you! On Monsters, you ever feel like when you know something is so good and so well done that there's almost a pressure to start it? That's the way I feel with Monsters, there was a weight to it that it needed to be appreciated in the right way. Now that I have it and it doesn't need to go back to the library, I'm excited to get over that and actually check it out. Do you have any BWS pages in the collection?

There's 13 of these Deluxes. Can anyone help me with the reading order?
@@CarlosDias-er6dd I absolutely can, Carlos! For the main series, you want to go with Year One, Year Two, Shattered Grid, Beyond The Grid, Necessary Evil 1-2, then Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Book 1-3 (only Book 1 and 2 are out now, Book 3 comes out next week). For Go Go Power Rangers, it's up to you when/ how you read it. The main hardcovers have a lot of the series included with Shattered Grid and Necessary Evil, so you're totally cool to just read through with those and skip the Go Go Deluxes. If you want to read them I suggest reading the first part of Go Go vol 1 after Year 2 (stopping once you hit the Shattered Grid crossover issues 9-12). Almost all of Go Go Deluxe vol 2 is contained in the Necessary Evil volumes, if you want to check out the other 4 issues and the Rangers Forever special, read those after Beyond The Grid. For the other books (Lost Chronicles and Archives) you're fine to skip them or read them whenever you want. They're a separate continuity and do not affect the main storyline. Hope that helps, I'll be filming a full reading order once Book 3 comes out next week
@@bunkmastab it really helps! Thank you, I'll make sure to follow and keep an eye for that video! Keep on the good work!

I wasn’t a fan of this one. Young love has been done a million times. A memoir from a middle class 28 years old also doesn’t exactly leave me very intrigued. You could tell that she just needed emotional support and didn’t really love him.
@@burntdice2810 First off, I really appreciate you checking out one of my older videos like this. But, I actually agree with you. One of the things I love about this book is that I get different things out of this every time I read it. The first time, I was pretty hyperfocused on the Craig-Raina relationship. Subsequent readings have shown me that the most important relationship in the books are Craig and his brother and Craig with Christianity. I also think that this book helped set up future auto-bio comics and we don't get things like It's Lonely At The Centre of the Earth (another favorite of mine) without books like this to pave the way. I think this was an important book for the medium and I appreciate you having enough insight to know that this isn't a comic you're into. One of the things that make comics great is that there's a comic out there for everyone and people can freely dislike books that other people love
@@bunkmastab I’ve been reading a lot of auto bios and they just haven’t been hitting for me. Just in the past week I’ve read this one, and two from Noah Van Sciver (as a cartoonist and one dirty tree). I just come away very meh. I think it’s because their lives seem so familiar that it’s doesn’t interest me much. I’d rather read about other cultures so I can gain some form of insight in something I personally don’t know a lot about.
@@burntdice2810 I think that's a totally fair take. I really like autobio comics as a genre and I can enjoy the comics and storytelling of it even if the life behind the story is very familiar. Have you read The Called Us Enemy by George Takei and Harmony Becker? It's a graphic retelling of Takei's life in American internment camps during World War II? While I don't think the comics aspect is as strong as something like Blankets (in terms of aspects like the linework and paneling) it tells a horrifying story that should absolutely be heard. One of the finest graphic autobios off mostly the strength of the story being told and the skill that Takei tells it
@@bunkmastab I that one has been on the radar. It sounds like it may be similar to grave of the fireflies which is just gut wrenching
@@burntdice2810 Grave of Fireflies is definitely more emotionally devastating but They Called Us Enemy is more likely to make you angry. Both are wonderful, just in different ways
Will book 3 be collecting Darkest Hour?
@@IaMShadows1 It will not, we're probably 2 books away from getting Darkest Hour, which doesn't start until Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 111. Book 3 (which comes out next month!) will cover the rest of the Ryan Parrott era with both the Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers series 17-22, The Death Ranger special, and the oversized Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 100. The Melissa Flores era will probably be split into two books, with the first one the setup and 2 Power Rangers Unlimiteds then the other having Darkest Hour (MMPR 111-122) and the Darkest Hour special. And that's the end of the series, thanks for checking out the video!

Great overview Bunk! Got me thinking about checking it out. Power Rangers, as a show, came out when I was in college so I didn't check it out though I remember thinking that they had ripped off Voltron.
Thanks for checking it out, Sazmurph! I've definitely heard the "ripoff of Voltron" criticism before, the funny thing is the first Super Sentai series (the base series that Power Rangers reuses the footage from) Himitsu Sentai Gorenger came out in 1975, a full 6 years before Beast King GoLion (the original Voltron series) in 1981. But as a kid growing up in the 90s, Power Rangers was just the perfect mix of teen drama from shows like Saved by the Bell and awesome action sequences that my parents didn't think was "too violent for kids". Hope the volume was better on this one!
@@bunkmastab Yes, the volume was better on this video! Thank you for the history lesson, I didn't know about footage from the 70s being used!
