Philippine House Building Day 472 - Villa Crassa: A Finished House
Philippine House Building Day 472 - Villa Crassa: A Finished House
We reach the end of our house building series here in the Philippines.
We may still do a "lessons learned" video, if you put enough comments in to suggest you are interested.
The (now quite small) crew are still on site, but in general are only working on the driveway, with just a few bits of touch up inside.
In this video, we give you a little bit of a house tour, along with some parts of the house blessing - which is very common here. And then the party to follow, and we were extremely that a whole bunch of the crew came back to celebrate with us.
All of this, along with the added huge bonus (at least for me) of a couple of very important guests - even if one of them was unwell on the day and we did not manage to catch my brother in the video.
We hope you have enjoyed the process. Or, as you know from my criteria for "likes", at least the videos did not make you violently ill !
The focus now, will be on the garden, as we try to turn a very flat field into something a little more pleasing on the eye.

Ignore Compost Science

Ignore Compost Science In this first gardening episode, we take a look at compost. There is plenty of information online about how to compost, but here we take just a little look at the science of composting, and why, if you choose to, you might consider ignoring some of it. The problem is not that the science is wrong, but that if you are aiming for what is said to be the ideal ratio of compon...
5 Reasons YOU should have a YouTube channel

5 Reasons YOU should have a UA-cam channel If you search online for "reasons to have a UA-cam channel", most likely you will mostly get hits about making money. This is valid, but in my short UA-cam creator life, I have found there is a lot more to it than that - and in fact in my case, making money is not my number one reason. I will give you five reasons - there are of course more, and I woul...

Philippine House Building Day 404 - We Moved in BUT THEN...... The plan was, to give you an update a day or two after we were left with the cliffhanger of whether or not we could move in to the house before the last of our two kids returned from the UK. So what happened ? Why has it been about 10 days for this video to come out ? Watch and find out. Spoiler alert - the main reason for the delay...
Philippine House Building Day 395 - Moving Tomorrow ?

Philippine House Building Day 395 - Moving Tomorrow ? Our moving day target was tomorrow - are we going to make it ? There has been lots of progress since the last video, with interior cabinets all finished, and most of the painting inside done. We have now moved a small amount of furniture into the house, but we do have some pretty major issues which may mean the move is delayed. This would be...

Philippine House Building Day 383 - Less than 2 Weeks to Go An eleven day gap since the last video has of course meant a lot of progress - but is it enough to get us in the house 13 days from now, when the last two kids arrive here ? Honestly, I still don't know, but things are heading in the right direction. Walk in closet cabinets are all built (with one small exception) and cabinet painting ...

Philippine House Building Day 372 - Three Weeks To Go (?) After another brief layoff, we are back to try to see whether we might be in by the new target of mid-December. A slightly different way of looking at things today - a walk-through of the house, trying to identify what still needs to be done in each room. While there is still a lot to finish, we are definitely getting closer. There is st...

Philippine House Building Day 362 - Smart Switches Going In Our on site electrician "Bapa Jess", gets to work on installing 40 smart switches around the house. Three different types, including a very small number of touch screen switches. Not sure yet how all the switches connect up, but will be able to work on that once we have internet and WiFi sorted out. The rest of the crew continued work ...

Philippine House Building Day 361 - The 20 Steps of Cabinet Wood Surface Treatment Seriously ? Well, if you take all the individual steps the painters take from start to finish, it does come out at around 20 - and we go through the list (in a slightly abbreviated form) today. Plus, a fairly major question about our windows - have they been made and installed incorrectly ? Aside from that, the d...

Philippine House Building Day 360 - Windows - It's all in the details It helps to know what you are looking for. Our engineer picked up a couple of key issues with the windows installation - something that would be very easy to miss, and probably comes with experience (despite his tender years). Our ongoing saga with an internet provider continues - can they or can't they? Today the story took ...

Philippine House Building Day 359 - What's Happening Mr Engineer ? Every morning I ask the engineer: "What's happening today?" - or more likely: What's New Today". Today, when I asked that question quite late in the day, I got the least useful answer in the last year. Aside from that, the day included: Toilets in the Living Room, More work on the White House, Continuing the Home Cinema framing,...

Philippine House Building Day 358 - Something rather beautiful At the end of the day, there was something rather beautiful - something that puts building a house into perspective. A quick word on asking the right questions here - or sometime...

Philippine House Building Day 357 - Home Theater Sound Proofing The first step in the home cinema sound proofing begins, with the start of the frame and installation of rock wool. Much more work on cabinets, including in the master bedroom walk in clo...

The problem with the window screen on the inside is that you have to walk outside to slide the window open or close. In America the screen will be on the outside for that reason. The screens never take a beating, generally anyway, but replacing a screen is a cheap quick fix.

Doesn’t matter as long as he’s happy with it. Doesn’t matter as long as the client enjoys the output. Imagine asking a hairdresser for a trim and they cut off your hair because they think it would suit you better... Beauty has and will always be in the eye of the beholder.

some useless info for you Mike, get the old cow patties and put them somewhere to dry for a month, when they are nice and dry, squirt a little kerosene on one side and light it, once it smoulders and smokes you wont have mozzies for a hundred meters, they hate it, a nice old dry one also wont smell when it burns because they are plant based...used to do it all the time camping in Australia where they have those bush mozzies so thick you were scared they would carry you away in the night...I know its a bit rough lol

Hi Mike. found your site 2 weeks ago. caught up to day 191 here. Fascinating as I too am lucky enough the have a Filipina asawa. We are in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The plan is to retire in the Philippines in 5 to 8 yrs. It's common here as we have the third largest Filipino community in Canada. Here it's called Pilipino retirement. Winter in the Philippines and Summer in Canada. Just under six months out of Canada so you keep your healthcare coverage. I'm 60. She is 65 but looks 40ish. Started watching "That Philippines life" then to "Building the Philippines and then found your site. All very educational.

It really would have been nice to know you would be ending the channel. I looked forward to the adventure each week or so. You asked people to subscribe and make your adventure somewhat a part of their life. And then to abruptly stop without warning seems a bit inconsiderate. Nevertheless, you don’t really owe your subscribers who’ve invested time and dare I say emotion into your life anything. Or do you? Even a little consideration? Just my perspective after waiting two months for another video. Just saying….

But really, when is your viewers party, mate? I swear I will be there with a drink and a song. 🤣 As this series has ended, so must the joke of the day end. Sadly it is THAT time, Mike. Away we go...
