Leica Q3 43 - SmallRig Q3 Hand Grip - Yes ? No ?

I tried using my Leica Q2M on Q3 43. It fits but not as comfortable as on Q3 since Q 43 is a hair heavier and the lens a hair more front heavy too. Soo is the Smallrig grip made for Q3 a solution?? #leica #leicaQ3 #leicaq343 #smallrig #smallrighandgrip L-Shape Mount Plate with Handle for Leica Q3 Here’s the link for it on Amazon SmallRig L-Shape Handgrip for Leica Q3, Seamless Fit L-Shape Mount...

Q3 43 No Battery Charger ?!? Seriously Leica

Here’s a video comparing needing to use the LCD screen. Important note, I don’t like using to screen for touch controls so I always turn that off. #leicaq3 #fujifilmx100vi #leica #fuji #cameracomparison
Can you now use any filter and still enable macro mode or do you still need to use thin filters?
Yes standard size filters are ok no issues with macro mode with this new lens hood .. watch later in video I show macro mode working ok
@@casadelouieThanks a lot! I ordered it from Amazon and it should arrive this week.
Does the lens hood have a Haoge logo? The stock photo on Amazon shows one but I want a hood without it.
No logo .. hood all black
Thanks, I just ordered mine. Leica was very short sighted on this. GRRR
@@AlanGreenberg-i8p glad I could help, thanks for watching
@@casadelouie It fights really well and looks just like the Leica version.
Is the honeymoon phase over? Do you still prefer this to the 28? Nice video.
Yes for me, the 43 is better, 35mm would have been good too. I do less cropping now, but there are times when I can’t get shot because I’m too close can’t back up. Also I don’t have anymore issues of wide angle distortion which is just natural with the 28mm, actually more of a 26mm … thanks for watching, I should do an update video
@ thanks for the reply. Looking forward to the follow up.
The European Union adopted a new regulation prohibiting the inclusion of battery chargers with new camera sales. It is intended to boost sustainability. You can charge the battery in camera using the USB-c port. Not the big deal you are making it.
I own and can confirm the B & W UV 'T-Pro" filter will screw on and the hood will FULLY screw on till it clicks to finish, it is silver/grey - that's the compromise, black would of been more discrete........no macro mode though
@@Richie_Glasgow Haoge has a new Q3 43 lens hood now that will accept full size filter and works with macro mode .. I posted a video about it
Would the cord attachment fit through the holes in the lugs of the Q3 43 without using the handgrip? Or is the cord too thick. thanks
No too thick, theres a version of the strap with a metal ring that would work with the standard camera posts
Your enthusiasm is infectious!
Thanks for watching!!
Aren't you wary that the metal rivet on the adjustable buckle could scratch the camera?
Not at all, it’s small and flush with strap, is on outside of strap when in use. Never even thought about till you mentioned. Thanks for watching
@@casadelouie Yes, when in use it stays on the outside of the strap, but when you stow your camera into a bag, the rivet could come into contact with the side of the camera or even the screen. Something to consider.
Oh cool .. yes do it !!
Cool! I like the Asian theme one the best I think. Have you seen the wall art in RiNo in Denver? Some interesting work there on many different walls. I want to do a project with graffiti and tattoos as two forms of the same artistic process.
No I haven’t
Thank you so much for this! Where can I see your work with the Q3 43?
You’re welcome, guess I should post that lol .. my car / vintage fashion IG is @hausofkustom .. then more adult ig .. @wickedinfluences .. most photos are from q3 28 or Q2 monochrome.. that’s what I only shot past two years .. everything from now on will be Q3 43 since I sold everything else .. a few recent shots on hausofkustom are Q3 43 since it was release.. thanks for watching
Thanks for your updates on this issue, mine arrived today. It's a little longer than the Leica Q3 43 version so it's just a case of how much you use the macro mode therefore would you keep the supplied version and swap to this version for macro, or not want the hassle of swapping lens hoods for a slightly smaller lens hood? Leica should have supplied both based on the price of the camera. Maybe they can do a deal with Haoge?
I need the use of my full size UV filter and macro mode at anytime, that’s why I use this lens hood not original q3 43 lens hood .. thanks for watching
Thanks. Just ordered it. Should be here in a couple of weeks. I've been using a knockoff round lens hood and while it works, I don't like it as much as the square one
Yeah I tried a round one, hated it so that’s what made me figure out to use tape with original Q3 28 hood 😂… thanks for watching
What a whole lot of baloney caused by a bad design (screw-on vs bayonet mount hood). The new hood is still flawed because it does not allow for adjustment of adjustable filters (polarizers and variable NDs, among others). Funny Leica flubbed this simple, yet invaluable accessory. If I were an accessory manufacturer, I would create a screw-on bayonet mount that would stay on the camera no matter whether a hood is attached or not. Of course, I would also create a hood for the bayonet that was attractive, but also included a rectangular hole on the bottom to allow a finger to adjust adjustable filters.
Yeah big mess, thanks for watching
No thanks. To much fuss. I'm just using the thread protector. Can't imagine having to take either off to put different filters on. Also to use the Elpro e52 Close-up lens.
Dang they’re already out of stock! I will say, there’s a couple of new options coming ;)
I ordered one from Squarehood for 110€, wonder if this one from Haoge have the same finish and quality as the one from Squarehood which I find expensive..
I’m in Long Beach, got extra one coming if you really need one, I think you’re in LA?
@@softiczlatanit’s nice metal, seems exactly like original Leica hood. I have a past video comparing original q3 28 hood with Haoge
Looks like they are back in stock. $36.79 with Prime and $45.99 regular price.
Bought one!
Nice !! Thanks for watching
The photos on their webshop show their logo on the lens hood, but if I see correctly, their logo is not shown on yours, is that right?
Yes no logo on lens hood.. thanks for watching
Thanks @@casadelouie

Hao Ge Two words I’ve got mine too

@@zoltankaparthy9095 Nice !! Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoy the new camera!
I see that Haoge are now offering a square Q3 43 lens hood on Amazon that does allows filters to be fitted. I have ordered one and will let you all know if it works as described. It has a 2 week delivery time to the UK so must be shipping from China.
Yes! I already ordered one, should be here next week .. Hopefully it works
I like a lot of Small Rig’s stuff. But that grip is an abomination in terms of looks. My neighbor friend has one, so I guess I have to try it anyway.
post pictures of the events you take pics off
Haoge is now selling a lens hood LH-LQ43B specifically designed for Leica Q3 43. It fits perfectly on Leica Q3 43. You don't need any tape or ruberband, just screw it on, and voila... I don't know if Amazon has this in their stock. I bought it from Taobao China two weeks ago.
Yes !!! I have one already ordered on the way .. I got it thru Haoge on Amazon
Like your attude, useful information. Poor audio volume was hard to hear. Sounded like you used your camera's built-in mike, can't do that.
I have the ThinkTank Mirrorless Mover 10 bag that fits the Q3/Q343 with grip up, but very securely with also room for batteries and cards. I have the Match cap and love it. I use the RRS L-bracket grip with QD port, great ergo and arca-swiss. Then I use a black rapid modified wrist strap with a QD connector on it, or a strap with QD. Also have the thumb grip from Amazon for $99. Even has Leica imprints on it.
If you’re just looking for a small bag for transport, give the Wotancraft Portable Camera Pouch L a try. It’s perfect for the Q, and you can also attach a strap to use it as a sling ;)
Ok thanks I’ll check it out
Squarehood has released a hood for the Q343 which doesn't have the filter issue.
Ooh thanks I’ll check it out
Great stuff, totally with you on the lens hood setup. Ask for camera bags, you might like the Bellroy Venture Sling 10L Camera Edition.
Thanks I’ll check it out
I love the name SMALLRIG that is written downstairs
I decided to order the round lens hood from JJC so that I can use a cpl filter, initially I was using a 49mm pinch fit lens cap but have found that a 67mm pinch fit cap fits perfectly on the front of the circular hood. In my opinion it looks better and is easier to remove when you are taking shots.
Excellent! Works great👍
looks good, only issue is that the top comes in chrome colour rather than black
Yeah, they will probably make a Q3 43 that matches the grey. & hopefully make frame black
so I didnt get the Haoge cause it was taking to long to get to me so I picked up the akirood version and boom it fit perfectly with the filter you have on the lens macro works flawlessly. i did not have to put tape on the edges I used the red ruberband that came with my fuji x100vi I got two extras and boom it sealed perfectly on point thanks for the video
Nice !! Got link for those red rubber bands?
@@casadelouie I don’t but I will look for it and send it to you
I sent the whole kit I used the red rubber band or seal gasket thing I got three with that kit. So I bought to use it instead of the gaffer tape. It works and seals the thread.
I took my original Leica Q3 hood off the camera and put it in the box to never use again and keep it looking brand new(increased value if I sell, but I probably won't so my heirs will get the value.) My Haoge knockoff is going to save me more than I PAID for it. So get a second Haoge for your Q3 43 so you can put both the Leica originals away, and they will stay pristine. I also did this with the lens cap so that the stuff that tends to take a hit is not used and stays perfect and the cheap knockoffs can get scuffed up.
Yeah I’m using a Haoge Q3 lens hood on my Q3 43 ..
Use a Peak Design anchor. I have a nice leather wrist strap from Wotancraft.
Got a nice wrist strap from Artisan & Artist… posted video .. thanks for watching
Thumbs up to you. Just to show the Leica engineers that take their pants off to fart for an over-engineered POS. I can say that coming from using the old Leica film M cameras and have never seen such inept design before from Leica.
Soon everything about Leica is a La Carte. No charger, no lens hood, no lens cover, no straps.....and the filters that won't fit......and laughing all the way to the bank.
Seriously, looks that way & the packaging of camera got cheaper. Plus they don’t share the Flash TTL information. So if you want an on camera flash with TTL only option is overpriced (Nissan) Leica flash
I went with the Peak Design wrist strap. Same thing - great quality and the wider strap slides and secures my wrist. I can go on long walks and never worry about it and comfortable. Just another great option.
Nice! Thanks for watching
А чим ви чистите скло обʼєктива? дякую
Been using their neck strap for the past of 10 years…the quality were awesome till now..will try their Acam soon. Thanks for the review 👍
The neck straps must be nice.. thanks for watching
My Nitecore charger, that I used for my Leica SL charges the Q343 batteries fine.
I’ll check that out .. thanks for watching
Can you post link
artisanartistglobal.com/products/acam-311p-wrist-adjustable-silk-cord-hand-strap … out of stock now
Ali express sells a q2/q3 charger usb c single or dual battery, about $15 and $20 ish each, work perfectly. The single for some reason has only micro usb charging and dual has usb micro+ usb c ports and i don't know why
I never used the Leica hood with my Q, i used a ventilated shade. Moved it to my Q343 works fine.
Thanks for the suggestion. The real problem is not the size of the lens hood on the 43, it's the fact it's designed differently (the hood actually comes in at the sides so blocks the lens from moving forward).
Well yes, but that’s part of lens hood, I thought about having the original Q3 43 lens hood cut away on the inside but that still might not solve issue. If they made the lens hood with more couple mm more depth it probably have been ok. They cared more about q43 being the same size as 28 with lens hood on than being functional unfortunately
So you didn't want to try a dremel to cut it away - on a cheaper version of the hood? Otherwise you'll never truely know if it's a solution 🙂 Or they thought people might buy both the 28 and 43? Isn't the original Q3 better for macro shots anyway? So if you have both no problem. But some companies produce comedy large lens hoods that double the size of the lens! This isn't good either. However, Leica really should have given us the option of a smaller front element or a filter friendly hood.
@@stephenelliott7071I will once someone makes a cheap copy of 43 lens hood, I can’t destroy the original Leica hood incase of resale
you are awesome for the find! thank you!
But Casa de louie came through with the solution! ua-cam.com/video/fvGU2FxBclQ/v-deo.html
You can actually hold the camera using 2 hands you know? One to support the lens. 🙂
That’s how I shoot, but the camera is small for my hands, I need a grip.
So I went on Amazon the hoag says it will not work with q3 43
@@salvadorvelazquez8783 it will with my little tape hack .. look at my other video on how I did it
