I know this will sound critical, and I'm sorry. I'm trying to educate, not criticize. You you did the second method wrong. As a result, you didn't find the center because you didn't actually draw a perfect square. You created an irregular quadrilateral. For that method to work, each side needs to be precisely the same length and each corner needs to be 90 degrees. The easiest way to ensure accuracy is for the corners of the square to land precisely on the circle. The corners can extend beyond the circle as you did, but only if you are careful and know what you are doing. But it's easy to get off when doing that, which is what happened here. I don't know if I can articulate clearly what you did wrong without a visual demonstration. But let me try. Whey you draw the first right angle, you need to ensure two things: 1) you need the same measurement of the line segment between the intersections with the circle on both legs. 2) you need to extend the line beyond the circle the same distance on both sides. In other words, if you set your square down and intersect the circle at 1 inch, given that #1 above is met, you need to extend the line past the second intersection exactly 1 inch and measure that total length. That is the measurement you need to concern yourself with when you move your square to the other corner. The next to lines should intersect the square at the exact measurement. If you did it right, then the measurement of the line segments inside the circle should also be the same. That will ensure you didn't get your square off center to your circle. I know this probably sounds confusing and I wish I could show you. For anyone reading this who doesn't understand my correction, skip this method. Method 1 is easier to ensure accuracy.
