So I have a perfect example of how bad English is being taught in Japan. Quick background I am American, my wife is Japanese and our son is mixes and can speak both English and Japanese. He went to a Japanese elementary school for a month over the summer and he was corrected on how to say English words. My son was called and asked to say this word 13. He said thirteen like an English speaker, but his teacher and the other students looked at him weird as well as the teacher, the teacher kinda corrected him to say tha teen. So it kinda shows not even wanting to try and get away from the Japanese versions of a word.

I think the F word not only stands for Fair but also for Fail. The Japanese as an individual does not want to make a decision that could possibly lead to failure. If one makes a mistake as a group, then the responsibility is shared by the group. Like you said no one wants to be that nail that sticks out. It can be frustrating as an American to deal with a conformist society.

The best rice cooker is a dedicated rice cooker donabe, kumoi kiln and igayaki double lidded rice cooker donabe. I bought a Nagatani-en Kamado san 3 gou rice cooker, it takes the same time to cook rice as with an electric one, but the results are better than anything else, the aroma is enhanced by the clay.

Few questions for clarification. 1. So when you’re sitting on the bath stool. You clean everything (butt and nether region) in front of everyone? 2. Can you use soap in the sink above the toilet? 3. Since cOVID I’m so over the top about germs. Are the tubs allowed to be cleaned with bleach between uses because you said that the water is usually reused. (Sorry if any of these questions seem insensitive)

Japan seems ill prepared for it's rapidly ageing population. There seems to be a lack of care facilities, mental health assistance etc. Re: efficiency. The first time I used the self checkout at Uniqlo I was shocked when I dumped an armful of clothes into the bin and it instantly scanned all the items for me, no individual scanning necessary. I have great admiration for the humility and omotenashi of the Japanese people.
