Today I wanted to discuss what the future holds for Shadow and how Shadow Generations could be a course correction for notonly his gameplay but his character development as well. It'll be really interesting to see if Shadow is really back or is he going to be written like he has been the past decade just being a caricature. Let me know what you all think! I love Shadow's Character in 06. Yes, it's his year cause he is in the next movie. I love that Sonic x Shadow Generation is completely going in his character cause BLACK DOOM is back! (hope he is still Voiced by Goku. Look it up) Shadow the Hedgehog game was like how I got back to the Sonic Series (cringe I know I was young and was around when it came out.) which fun fact: Jeff Fowler the Director and Tim Miller (also the Director of Deadpool) the Executive Producer of both Sonic films had there start there. As they worked on the CG movie/cutscenes on Shadow the Hedgehog Game and 06. Plus Look at What the movies did to Knuckles! They revived his character and are getting a paramount series!
Thats cool! SA2-Shadow is how I got my start too growing up. It’s great knowing that the movies are in good hands of creators that understand the characters. I hope they don’t shy away from Black Doom, they need to adapt that Shadow The Hedgehog story to film along with 06. Mephiles is still kneeling if the best villains and we didn’t even get that much of him in 06. Would love to see that Mephiles movie design, would probably look even creepier😂
@@soniccreations Mephiles still one the best villains in Sonic History( other than Eggman, I mean come on Mike Pollock is one of best portals of the character and he's the main Villain.) Mephiles makes Infinite look like a Joke. Mephiles did SO much in one game that people still talk about him. He just got everything right! His tone, His movements, His Laugh, His Theme (Still gives me the heebie jeebies.) I can go on forever. He did the one that no other villain has done. KILL Sonic! Oh if he doesn't show up in the game I wouldn't be upset about it but still.

One thing Sonic 06 excelled at was the interactions between Shadow and Mephiles. Mephiles seeking to get revenge on Shadow for sealing him away by trying to break him mentally. Showing him a future where he would be betrayed by humanity and locked away out of fear of his powers. While Mephiles’s tactics didn’t work, there were times where Shadow did doubt himself and his team. It’s a shame Mephiles was meant to be a one off villain as I feel like he still had a lot of potential as being a foil to Shadow’s character.
One thing I wish SEGA and the writers did with Mephiles was use him to explore something rarely brought up with Shadow. His immortality. Shadow was created to be the ultimate lifeform. A being who would never age or get sick from natural diseases. While that may sound great, a downside to Shadow’s immortality is that he will eventually outlive everyone. Mephiles could try and use this against Shadow by showing him a future where all his friends are gone and he is all alone. I feel like it could make for a really interesting story and be a good reason for Mephiles to return.
Very good points! Definitely something worth exploring, Shadow’s immortality really never gets brought up again but it really should.
i think the main struggle sonic team is dealing w rn is “ok these characters already went through their character arcs so what do we do now?” the answer is either they devolve the character (tails) or they just repeat the same arc
Yeah that method is so frustrating to long time fans and is so lazy. Characters are only cool and interesting because of their development, you wipe that away whats even left? Just a shell of what they once were really. I’m glad they at least are also acknowledging Tails inconsistency in Frontiers story.
Black Doom taught Shadow to let go of the past and live for himself and him joining G.U.N. showed his progress as an individual, he forgave humanity enough to the point of willing to work with the same people who caused him so much pain for the sake of protecting the planet. Mephiles showed Shadow the consequence of working with humans but Shadow at that point didn't care what he had to say because his mind was already made up. That's cool and all but it technically never happened so I'd love it if Mephiles came back through different means and exposed those consequences once again and explore some new scenarios with Shadow. You can even keep Shadow staying stagnant on his beliefs at first but what if as time passes, he becomes less and less sure of himself. Mephiles placed that seed of doubt in his mind. Shadow is no longer stuck in the past but is now worried of the future. This could even explore potential Silver stories or something idk. I have so many ideas at the top of my head but I think Sega is contempt with Shadow being a Vegeta clone sadly.
Really makes you realize that the plot of 06, while convoluted at times, was very genuine and sincere in its storytelling. And I think that even though Shadow doesn’t remember what happened in this story thats still who he was after the Shadow The Hedgehog story so it doesn’t change much. Hopefully we see him again in Shadow Generations!
Hopefully Sonic X Shadow Generations will remedy that.
100% what I’m hoping is the case! I really miss the development they had for Shadow, we’ll see what they put together. The more I think about it Mephiles really should come back for Shadow Generations.

What is the next story arc for Sonic cybernetics and will you add IDW Sonic characters add Sonic Archie characters
Yes, definitely planning on adding more of both! Currently working really hard on first few scenes and preproduction for Sonic Cybernetics Episode 6 (Finale) which hopefully I can share some screenshots and release the first scene soon!
Ironically, I think Sonic fits better as an anchor character more than a main character. A character that's always there but the story is rarely about. Give us more stories centered around other characters please.
Thats kind of how I’ve used him in stories. Theres an arc in Aftermath that’ll make him more interesting. But as for the official games, they need to do the same, Frontiers is a good start.
It takes skill to write Shadow in a good way that doesn't make him seem edgy simply for the sake of being edgy. I don't think most Hollywood writers today have that level of skill, which I why I think Shadow will be written poorly in Sonic 3. I hope I'm wrong though.
Yeah I have the same concerns. Thats why I always try to protray Shadow the way I always saw him in my animated series. I think the way the writers saw him in the past was mostly incorrect and they were trying too hard to make things needlessly dark/cool/edgey. It made him come off as a caricature of his former self.
So, after a decade plus of disrespecting shadows character, now all of a sudden Sega is down with the idea of allowing his character to be celebrated? yeah.....I'm going to continue to remain skeptical and realistic with the management of the sonic franchise, moving forward. I'm personally not placing and faith or hope into anything.
Hey thats fair, as you should. Until we see a cutscene and a full level we won’t really know what we’re dealing with.
