    Well researched sir! I’ve been drinking Duvel since the early 1980’s. Back then, it was re-fermented in the bottle and you had to pour it slowly to avoid the dregs. It wasn’t considered so “premium” then and it was stacked in Belgian supermarkets in crates. My family is Flemish origin (WW1 wounded soldier evacuated to England) and Belgian beers are in my genes.

    Umm, you might want to give your glasses a bit of a clean, a proper 'beer clean.' Those bubbles attached to the sides are a clear indication of dirty glassware. It can have a huge negative impact on the beer, as you can see by how quickly the head/foam of your pours dissipates.

    Good episode -- thanks for Part 1 and Part 2 of this! My favorite personal beer glass is the Spiegelau stout glass, which you covered. Bought one of these at Goodwill a few years ago, and after doing research and identification, discovered the difference it makes in the taste of stouts and porters. Kind of amazing. To me, anyway. Elevates the entire experience of drinking these beers. Just my two cents.

    Ycaza was Filipino (Hispano-Filipino or what was then termed 'insulares'). In 1889, 'Filipino' was only a term used for Spaniards born in the Philippines. The indigenous people were referred to as 'Indio' but we ourselves referred to each other by our ethnicity (Tagalog, Visaya, Ilocano etc.) The San Miguel Corporation for its first 80yrs was controlled and run by the great 'mestizo' families. Spain's oldest brewery, Estrella in Barcelona, was only a decade before San Miguel in Philippines. Beer drinking, which was more popular in Northern Europe, only started to become widespread in Southern and South West Europe in the late 19th C. Before that, wine, eau de vie, gin and anisette type drinks were more popular in those regions. 'Anisado' or 'Anis de mono' were popular in Philippines before beer and whiskey (So much so that Philippine Anisado won awards in expositions in Spain.) Although San Miguel Spain gives the impression that they've been brewing since 1890, this isn't true. The first Spanish SM breweries were not established before the 50s. San Miguel Beer at one point was the only beer consistently available across East and SE Asia. Sorry, I stress the Filipino origin because the company and it's executives kept to the Philippines even after the Revolution and Spain's defeat to the US and never called it anything but beer from the Philippines.

    first off ,if you wanna drink duvel use the duvel glass not a random glass you start tapping it at 45° or even bit flatter and slowly straight up at the end. Question? do you know why duvel has small ¨bubles¨still going up in the middle of the glass. Answer. There is a litle scratch at the bottom of the glass.

      I would not totally disagree with you, but as someone from Belgium myself (Namur) , I would say that it isnt a total sin, I would not cringe if he uses a chalice or tulip like glass if he doesnt have the real duvel glass, hes from the US, the glasses must not come easy for them.

    the fact that you have more than 50% of your glass is filled with foam is becouse you're pouring it the wrong way. Start keeping the glass 45° and let the beer glide along the side of the glass. while you keep on pouring you turn the glass slowly straight up and the last of the beer left in your bottle you trow it into the glass to make the fome rize up to a 2 finghers thick layer.

    • @dampaul13
      @dampaul13 Місяць тому

      "2 finghers thick layer." It's awesome you say that given that isn't the way the brewery serves the beer, either at the brewery bar or in any of their promotional material. Maybe you're wrong! It's funny how such a beer and beer glass expert didn't mention how his glasses were dirty, which is going to negatively impact the beer.

    Awesome video once again! I have tried most of these being a Japanese beer guy and you definitely had a very similar experience as I did when trying all of these. I truly feel like Asahi is good and unique. Definitely a good beer. Sapporo is ALWAYS a solid close second as well but much more bite to it I would say. As for Kirin... It is a shame because branding wise... I think they have the coolest posters and logo but I totally agree with you that there was just SOMETHING off with that one particular flavor in their flagship beer. Difficult to fully explain but it was not good when compared to Asahi and Sapporo.

    22 oz can of Sapporo Reserve is my favorite non Tripel beer. That can alone is to be celebrated. It's bullet proof. One thing that should be known is the consistency of taste and quality of all their beers.. So many beers in so many places in town and around the globe I've never had an off one even when I couldn't get it refrigerated.

But you show no disrespect to them and that speaks loud about how much you love beer. Cheers!!
