    The tax dpt will call you and ask "where do you get your money from?" They'll look at you life style. Very easy to catch you in a lie. They will bill you and if not paid, hold you in detention until its paid.

    20 years in LOS and it's my pet peeve, hard mattresses. Thais don't seem to care but I can't sleep on them. My hips are sore for the whole next day. Many owners just buy the cheapest mattress because they're not staying there. I had to buy a topper for the place I'm in now.

    So let me get this right your on a retirement Visa and not aloud to work but they still class you as a Tax resident and want to tax you ?? 🤣 that doesn’t even make sense that just shows you the desperation of some of these governments around the world im trying to leave Australia because of the over taxation in our system

    • @PloyandJayinThailand

      You are a tax resident in Thailand, if you live 180 days or more per calendar year here as many foreigners/retirees live. However, it does NOT mean that you pay taxes in Thailand because there are many details to meet until you pay taxes here. Besides, Thailand has a remittance-based tax system, and all money you’ve earned BEFORE this year is tax-free. Also, almost all foreigners live in Thailand under Double Tax Treaty which you should understand to make a good tax plan. There are also many exemptions (some of the pensions, for example, depend on the DTA dividend income and might be tax-free if it is already highly taxed in your home country, etc). I would add that before Thailand gets any of your hard-earned money, Thailand gives you also many deductions and allowances + based on the DTA tax credit which means many foreigners pay zero taxes at the end of Thailand.

Facebook has these Buy Nothing groups in most towns and cities. I think that restaurant was expensive that you went to because of the ambiance I'm sure lol..But it's fine to save in some places and splurge in others. Same way we do here 🙂. My Thai rice from the restaurant down the street came to $16. I got beef garlic rice with extra egg. It was very good. It's a to go only restaurants. Hi Jay. I cant imagine that the Thai government will want a huge amount of money from a Foreigner living in Thailand. IMHO, I think that if you are living in a country and enjoying the benefits associated with using their facilities and infrastructure, then why shouldn't you contribute a small/reasonable amount for the right to use them! Anywhere in the world, TAX is "almost unavoidable". If you have a lovely life in Thailand, why not except their rules! If you don't like it, go back to your homeland and see how much tax you will pay there. Share some love with the beautiful Thai people and hopefully the money will go to make a better live for them and their children! 🙏🙏

    • @PloyandJayinThailand
      @PloyandJayinThailand 13 днів тому

      Thanks for your insight 🙏I partly agree with you. But if foreigners need to pay extra taxes in Thailand, then there should be some extra benefits because you are a tourist here even with your one-year marriage or retirement visa! I think Thailand should first rearrange its tax system to get some tax money from the Thai people. And now they are trying to do that with the tax changes and closing the loopholes. But if you are a foreigner who already pays taxes in your home country and if there is a Double Tax Agreement that protects you that you don’t get taxed TWICE, then I cannot see any sense in paying extra taxes in Thailand unless it’s a small tourist tax 😂but Thailand doesn’t want to do that because it creates just negative feeling and people go then other countries. Thailand already has double pricing in many places and foreigners pay extra. I would say that the new DTV and 60-day visa exemption are the right steps to get more long-term foreigners into the country and that way Thailand can also collect more money naturally.

      @@PloyandJayinThailand When I say "YOU" in my comment, I don't specifically mean "You Jay". I mean "someone contemplating and or already living in Thailand"! And I also agree with some of the things that you are saying to... Basically, the Thai Government has a big mess on it's hands as it Transitions from a Third World Country (which it no longer is) into a modern Economy. I am sure they will make a lot of mistakes as they do this and this process will take a lot of time and probably upset a lot of people too. But if they can get it right and equitable, then the society as a whole should benefit!

      @@billsimpson2392 yeah, I understand 🙏by the way I know some pensioners who live permanently in Thailand. They only pay also taxes in Thailand. Then some foreigners pay taxes in their home country and Thailand. All is based on the Double Tax Treaties which Thailand must respect. Some foreigners get tax benefits by paying only taxes in Thailand, some don’t, so it varies a lot.

So you can arrange this visa also within Thailand. Only you have to re-enter Thailand to start this visa. Payment was €350, documentation to prove that you work remote and have an own company outside Thailand with a capital more than 500,000 Thai Bath. That's it. Easy and very fast. Thai work prohibited visas only apply to working in Thailand as they have no jurisdiction outside Thailand. The rules are so vague to what is work that just about anything can be classed as work and income from any work carried out in Thailand is classed as Thai sourced income and taxable in Thailand regardless of the recipient’s tax status or Country the money is paid in. What the DTV has done is clarified that working online for foreign companies/clients is not classed as working in Thailand so the income from this is not classed as Thai sourced income and you don’t need a work permit. With this precedent now set how can Thailand say retirees working online for foreign companies/clients is classed as working in Thailand and requires a work permit. It could be argued that YTers work for google which is a foreign company and work permit is not required and the income is not Thai sourced. However when your using Thailand as a back drop, Thais can view it etc then good look to anybody trying to get a DTV showing a portfolio that they are a YTer and convincing the tax man income is not Thai sourced. To date Thailand has given YTers a free pass but TIT and they could have a crack down. In your case and as I said in the past if you not done so already you can put the channel in your wife name, change your tax Country to Thailand and get the YT money paid into a Thai bank account in her name.

      Thanks for your input. There are many ways to do UA-cam and stay on the legal side. DTV, Business visa, making a Thai company, or helping your Thai wife. Some of these need a work permit, some of them not. It depends on many things, like whether is it your business, do you get paid, whether is it your occupation…I always suggest to consult a lawyer before you start your UA-cam journey 👌🙏

    • @isaanman5399
      @isaanman5399 15 днів тому

      @@PloyandJayinThailand DTV holders are prohibited from obtaining work permits as DTV’s are intended for those working remotely for foreign companies and clients. To get a DTV for remote worker purpose you have to show a contract of employment or a professional portfolio so good luck getting a DTV for being a YTer. A Business visa doesn’t allow you to work but Business visa holders can get work permits if they can meet the requirements and note Ben on Integrity Legal has said those who get what he calls Employer Of Record Work Permits through agents and friends companies that these work permits are null and void. As for helping your wife there have been cases such as a Thai has reported a husband for helping his Thai wife by painting the house in her name and the husband getting a visit from immigration. The Naked Guru posted a Vid 11 days ago titled Working & Income Tax As An Expat In Thailand and I think you might get something from watching it. As I said in my comment above just about anything can be deemed as work in Thailand so it is up to the immigration interpretation and looking forward it will depend on wether they crack down on YTers (A lot of YTer’s don’t stick to YT and promote sponsors, sell merchandise, courses, consultations, show case properties etc). Why would Thailand have a crack down well a couple of reasons I can think of is to stop abuse of the visa system and collect tax on Thai sources income which is taxable in Thailand regardless of recipient’s tax resident status or Country it is paid in. There are a lot of definitions of tax sourced income which though worded slightly different say they same one example is - What Is The Difference Between Between Personal Income Tax For Thai And Foreign Sourced BELAWS.

UA-camrs are content creators and I already know one foreigner who got DTV for making UA-cam (but not just UA-cam). How did that “husband for helping his Thai wife by painting the house” story end up? Did they make money by painting other people’s houses? I saw that video of Naked Guru. Nothing new for me. That is true anything can be deemed as work in Thailand. According to Mr. Ben, even breathing can be work 🤭

      @@PloyandJayinThailand All the stories of painting your wife’s house, bar owners hanging pictures on walls etc I know of all go back to being reported to immigration by a Thai who is a neighbor who thinks you should have given him the job or another bar owner wanting to give a problem etc. Most get a warning to stop and/or pay a fine (official or unofficial). You say you know of a person who got a DTV for YTing (but also other things), so is it written anywhere they can YT as this would then mean YTing is not classed as working in Thailand and the income not classed as Thai sourced income. Thailand has already said they are restructuring the Non - Immigrant visa categories from 17 to 7 starting from next month. So I wouldn’t expect any more clarifications or possible crack downs till after they have introduced the 7 Non - Immigrant category system.

    "The most notable change is the new five-year Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), which allows stays of up to 180 days, renewable for up to one year. However, the visa is not suitable for everyone and holders must fall into one of three categories. 1- The first category includes digital nomads or freelancers who receive their paycheck from outside Thailand, Naruchai said. 2- “You can do any type of job and work remotely here in Thailand. The most important thing is that the employer is not in Thailand. And your income must come from outside Thailand. Proof such as a pay slip or a letter from the employer abroad is required.” » (It should be noted that Income Tax will be up to Thailand ) 😂 3-The second category is for people who come to Thailand for specific activities such as Muay Thai training, cooking classes, medical treatment, and attending seminars and music festivals. Applicants must provide proof such as an appointment, course receipt or event ticket, Naruchai said. “It depends on the course. It can be for two weeks or a month, it is up to the applicant. Extensions beyond the initial 180 days require additional documents.” that's how it is in brief from what I understand, however bizarre the conditions are for the categories it is for, definitely watch the "continuation" of this

    As long as the neighbors are good it sounds like a positive. Should increase the value of your property and bring more money locally (even if by a little bit)
