Glad you shared! i struggled with this as well as school just started.

We homeschooled out child for 9th and 10th grade, but Advanced Algebra kicked by behind. It was also eye opening realizing that her scores on the math test they gave her landed her not only repeating her 10th grade math class, but it also placed her in the "slow" class, not the faster half of the class. She had been in the upper tier in math before she was pulled for home school. Like you said, it is too easy to put off or barely do the subjects either you or your children don't really like. Teachers don't have that luxury. They have a scope and sequence that they have to follow.

That was a tough lot with that many young kids trying to homeschool. I'm sure it can work but it's really depends on the kids and the family I think...hard to pull off. And with all the "homesteading" work on top of it. I just watched the other video and made me smile a little when the first one you're folding laundry the whole time, this one you're sitting on the porch drinking coffee or tea or whatever ;-) Glad everyone is doing well. Stay engaged with them and with the schools and I'm sure they'll be fine.

We tried homeschooling at the beginning of this last year and it was a dumpster fire even though I had SUCH high hopes and expectations. I ended up putting my oldest in 3rd at a charter that starts at that grade, and my 1st and Kinder kids in the local public school. The plain public school has been fine but I LOVE the charter and I’m excited for it as a future option for all the kids. But yes, I totally feel you on the relief of not having all of them home all the time! I guess we’re just built different than homeschool moms 🙈

I appreciate this update so much! So happy to hear you have enjoyed the transition and feel content where you're at. Praying this year goes as smoothly as last for you and your kiddos. We've had to jump through a whole bunch of hoops to make public school a possibility for our oldest child. He has been asking for months now. I was starting to get cold feet and second-guess, then your initial video randomly showed up in my suggestions and brought me so much peace! It's a gift to know I'm not alone. Praying I feel the same sense of relief that you describe and that my son is challenged and engaged! May God bless you in all you do!

This is my story, except I am a single Mom and only have one son who has dyslexia. Public school really let us down related to his learning disability and we started homeschooling 4 years ago in 2nd grade. "Strong willed" is the nice way to say it - he fights me about doing anything and everything! It is affecting our relationship negatively and I loose my temper with him daily. I feel so defeated. I have been wrestling with sending him back to school for 2 years. Last year he did private school online school in a live classroom. It took ALOT off of me when I was desperate for a break, mostly because of other stressors in my life. Unfortunately, his assessments from the beginning and end of the school year had not improved at all, ntm I can't afford to send him back this year. We're gonna 'try again', but I too can see me sending him to school after it starts if he continues to refuse to cooperate. Accepting our limits is so HARD, esp. when we're determined to do what we believe our kids need! Thank you for sharing your story. You are not alone. I can see that you are a great Mom!

I wouldn't be able to do it either with 6 kids. I pulled my kids out of public school, and put them back in, and out a few times so I understand.

I'm so proud of you mama! They don't have to be in public school forever. You can do a year or a few and bring them back home whenever you're ready if that's something you want. You're awesome!

God bless you! You obviously love your children very much, and want what is best for them. Pleeeeeease look into unschooling. It is a different approach to homeschooling that takes so much of the stress and anxiety out of the equation. It sounds scary and fringe at first, but I promise the more you understand the philosophy, the more you will see it is actually the most natural and healthy way for children to learn and grow. I know I'm just a random stranger on the internet, but I was unschooled myself, and that is mine and my wife's approach for our children as well. I see so many homeschool families burn out because they are trying so hard to recreate public school at home, and it just breaks my heart. Your kids are going to be ok, and so are you. You are all made of tough stuff and literally designed to be adaptive and resilient. Stop worrying about standards, stop worrying about other people, stop worrying about UA-cam. Also, please don't think that you've failed, it sounds like you just needed a break. You got this!

I feel you on such a deep level and all the emotions that come with the decision to quit homeschool. I never thought I would. I just want to thank you for being vulnerable and transparent as it helps other homeschool mommas know they are not alone nor a failure for deciding maybe homeschool is not the best decision in this moment. I have two I am homeschooling. A rising second grader and rising 9th grader. I am keeping the 9th grader at home but I am still contemplating what to do with the second grader because everyday was a fight to get her to do her work. So hard to get anything done. I found a small charter school I plan to let her stay for maybe two years or three years then will bring her back home. And this is my fear that she will be put back a grade. I have a hard time accepting that. Please update us since school is ending for summer of how it went.

This is what the religious right and Fox News has done to people; convincing them that sending their kids to school is actually a bad thing. Where I and most others come from, that's the norm; it's a good thing. This attitude toward public schools is akin to the stranger danger/satanic panics of the 1980s. Are there public schools that are better than others, yes; are there problems in the public school system? Of course there is. Is burning down the house going to help? Plus, I'm not sure being around your kids 24/7 is a good thing anyway! Stop saying the term "public school" like its a four letter word. I assure you if you haven't already realized, much of your fears are unfounded.

Lady, your kids are behind the curve, and you have only yourself and husband to blame. You obviously did not do adequate research, and its safe to assume you're not a licensed teacher. What you said about letting your kids do what they want; that's not schooling. To deprive your kids of a proper education is tantamount to child abuse. People need to stop with these Stranger Danger/Satanic Panic type hysterics and use some critical thinking skills. You did this all for the wrong reasons, which mainly included following a very misguided trend. Instead of feeling sorry for yourself, thank your lucky stars you weren't investigated by CPS. I do laud you for admitting your mistakes before it was too late, and hope in the future you will vote for lawmakers that will create policy as to have the same kind of accountability in homeschooling that there are in regular schools.

Thank you for sharing! As embarrassed as you are, I'm really thankful you put this video out! I was homeschooled (for all but 7th and 12th grade. Debatable 10th and 11th depending on how you classify charter school) and I HATED IT! I'm a full time Active Duty Soldier with a 5yo (who should be school age this September) and a 2yo. As much as I like the idea of homeschooling my kids, I just feel like I don't have it in me; which combined with my own horrible experience of being homeschooled, I have to wonder if HS is always the best option of the parents are ill-equipped. The problem I'm having is that I'm seeing many hoemschool advocates go on podcasts to say that ANYONE can homeschool! ("Yes! Even YOU!") and something about that just doesn't seem right. In fact, in the last podcast I listened to, the woman who advocated that there are no good excuses to not homeschool and anyone can do it recounted a story of a really bad day she was having: she was falling apart and felt like she was failing and couldn't do it anymore and her husband looked her in the eye and said "an ordinary women would be dead by now." Of course that's high praise and many good husbands can see what makes their wives so special. They can see where their wives excel. But what is the audience supposed to take from this? Can anyone homeschool, or can only the extraordinary homeschool? Ultimately, I think that people who act like their are clear right decisions and clear wrong decisions should be viewed with caution. The world is not simple and neither are people. Some of the most INCREDIBLE moral and intelligent people I have ever met came from public schools. If you love your kids and have a healthy relationship with them, public school probably won't be their doom. I myself would like to homeschool one day but I also have to be realistic about my skills and abilities and about my personal capacities. I truly thank you so much for sharing. It's been really helpful for me

I'm contemplating putting my 8 year old into school. I've been homeschooling him from the beginning but as a single mom this just doesn't work anymore. I'm frustrated, nervous and stressed out all the time. I've been playing with the idea of sending him to a public school for a year now. But I'm really taken aback by the bad curriculums, woke agenda and bullying... I'm so scared. 😢 I understand it when you say you don't want to send them to public school.... I soooo understand this. 😢😢😢😢
