The best advice I can give you is, base your meals on dry starches - pasta, rice, beans, and grains. These foods are not only super inexpensive, with at least a yearlong shelf life, they're tasty enough to eat with just a splash of soy sauce and/or some spices, and maybe a tiny splash of olive oil or just the smallest bit of meat or cheese. For the kids, you can not go wrong with 100% all natural peanut butter and fruit spread sandwiches!
I fully respect that you don't want to eat only starches like beans, potatoes, rice, breads, pasta...and vegetables with fruit, but the more meals you make like that, the lower your grocery bill will be! And the kids will LOVE it.
