Korg Pa5x New Chord Sequencer 2 Video
Jon, sorry, I’ve restarted youtube and, I ve found the subtitles, it’s not nécessaire for you to generate subtitles , iyoutube write them in live. Thank you for your wonderful work, fortunately we have people like you who take their time for others. Thank you very much
Thank you very much, very nice work but as I am French it would be very pleasant to have the subtitles accessible, is this possible? Thank you very much
@pierregautier7734 I am sorry trying to get a video out each week takes up a lot of time. So, adding subtitles would not allow me to put out a video a week. But, I do get comments from all over the world, and I can translate them to english. So, if you have a question, please let me know and I will try to answer it. Maybe in the future, if my channel grows I can hire someone to do this for me. Right now it is only me doing everything. Take care my friend. 👍🎹👍
This is the crappiest sequencer that I've ever used where is the copy where is the append so I can like make a drum pad without playing 15 minutes of drums in making mistakes as I go I like to do like a couple of measures of it maybe four and then append or and it'll last me how many measures I want to put 8 where does it do that I don't even see a copy paste kind of thing in here this is so I'm telling you this basically this is a primitive sequencer even the PA 1000 has a better sequence than this especially when you can use a style and I used to like that idea I'd have the basis for the song and then I can go in and do it in the midi sequencer the 16 track and then I could change my baselines accordingly but at least I'd have the basic drum section and all the other stuff in there and done in time now I'm having to do it all manual it takes too long
@alanadee2514 I have to agree to a certain point. It is not an easy sequencer to use. Now, for me, I have the Pa5x connected to my DAW via Midi. Then, I can create a sequence as a Midi file. It is so much easier. You can even bring that Midi file into Style Edit to create a Style. Korg has focused more on the arranger in this keyboard than the sequencer. Which I think Style Edit is easier to use than the sequencer.
Now i understand some basic principles and will try it my self. Thanks a lot. I shared the link on Facebook page on Korg PA 5x.
@renemerlijn8403 Thanks.I am glad the videos are helpful for you. 👍🎹👍
Is there a way to just change the octave of the lower section of the split? I can’t find any info on this
@1mataleo1 Yes. If you're just trying to lower the Keyset one octave, go to the Mixer, tap on little icon on the right, make sure you're on Keyboards and Pads then locate Lower. Then tap on Tuning, and the second knob down from the top on Lower will adjust the Lower Keyset one half step per number. So the lower it down one octave, you would turn it to -12. If you're trying to lower the arrangement down, you would have to go into the individual accompaniments and do the same thing. 👍🎹👍
Thanks buddy. This really helped me out. I appreciate it
Great tutorial.😊😊😊😊
@@renemerlijn8403 Thanks! 👍🎹👍

These videos are a godsend. I’m coming off a Triton that I had since it was first released. I’m feeling a little overwhelmed by all the things the 5x can do and how different it is, but these vids have been very helpful. Thanks my friend.
@1mataleo1 You are welcome, my friend. And don't forget go to my playlist "Keyboards Info and Tutorials." I have a lot of videos on the Pa5x. And if you don't see anything in that playlist that you have questions about, drop me a line, and I'll do a video on it if I can. Oh, and that Trtion was one great keyboard back in the day. The newer keyboards have a real learning curve. But once you understand it, you be amazed how fast you can produce music. Take care my friend. 👍🎹👍
So I was trying to do Lady Madonna with the chord sequencer so I did the Baseline in chords but the problem was the pattern the chord sequence was jumping on me in a certain place and it didn't sound right then I said oh that's the quantify it now that you just told me I can do this I went to 32nd instead of a quarter cuz that was the problem was getting stuck on a faster notes that the quarter note could handle and it was making it sound funny now all I got to do is change that chord sequence I hope it triggers the the bass to follow that because then I'll have this sound here or the accompaniment going with a Baseline and a pattern it's like I do the chords but I'm doing broken chords and making the riff pattern the bassline pattern so when you get this chord sequence playing then you do the other one the descending chord progression against it the piano part on lady Madonna and it works pretty good like that I haven't really tested that part but I'm thanking you I'm thanking you thank you thank you thank you this has been a mystery to me since forever if you didn't come out with this video I would have never known this and today I was searching for this and then you came out with the thing and I said oh so now we can do intricate chord progressions with broken chords and little riffs between them Yay yay yay thank you thank you thank you and I mean that
Now I'm wondering if I can change the time signature
@alanadee2514 I am so glad that I could be of some help. It is comments like this that keep me motivated on doing these tutorials. And once you get to hang of it, that chord sequencer is one powerful option on that Pa5x. So take care of my friend and keep on playing. 👍🎹👍
Can I go directly out of the KORG PA5X into my Mac laptop to record? Do I need an additional audio interface to do that. I have Ableton Live 12 on my laptop. Thanks for the help.
@stevecalvert1382 At the present time, there's no software for linking the Pa5x directly to your laptop. The only way I link my Pa5x to my software in my computer is by a 5 pin MIDI connection. Which you will probably need to have an external audio interface to do that or a USB to MIDI converter. It seems that the Midi connection via USB isn't as efficient as the 5 pin Midi In, Out and Thru on the back of the keyboard. Scroll down through my playlist, "Keyboard Info and Tutorials." Look for Pa5x to Mp3. You can directly record MP3s in the Pa5x, then save them to a flash drive then bring them into your software. If you do get an interface you can record directly out of the Pa5x via 6 audio outs, L&R, 1&2 and 3&4. Which means you have six individual tracks at one time coming out of the Pa5x. Again, check out my playlist, I have a video on how I connect my Pa5x to my DAW. 👍🎹👍
Hey John, I think the midifile format should be type "1" and not type "0". Thank you for all the wonderful videos. Grtz
@mariodegroote325 You might be right. It worked with Midi 0 but maybe it will work better with Midi 1. And your welcome. 👍🎹👍
Is it possible to import a style to sequencer..? Like a drum pattern. Thanks
@musicbab1 You can't bring a Style directly into the sequencer with the Pa5x. But there is a way to do it. First take your Style and Export it out as a Midi file. Then bring it into player 1. Now the Korg looks at that Midi file as a song. Then go into Rec/Edit, Song Edit and there will be all the information of that style in the sequencer. But this would not solve your problem, because all the information for Variations, Fills, Intros and Endings will be on that file. So if you're looking just for a drum track. I would export out the style to MIDI into your software. Then get rid of all the stuff that you don't want, then save it as a Midi file and bring it back into the Pa5x. Bring it in as a song to player 1. Then go to Rec/Edit then Song Edit and there will be all the information you want. 👍🎹👍
@@jonmicheals621 Thank you for your response happy xmas
@musicbab1 You got it. And have a great Xmas yourself. This week's video, I am going to show how to bring a Style into your software to create a song. You might find it interesting. Take Care 👍🎹👍
Hello. Love you're videos. Is there a way to convert sounds from Yamaha genos to Korg pa5x? if yes can you make a video on it?
@drorhovav392 I don't think so because they process sounds differently, different sound engines. But go to my playlist "Keyboards Info & Tutorials" and you will see some videos I did on how to create sounds. The first thing is to create a sample, then a multi-sample, then a sound. In the sampler it will allow you to import wav. files. So, if you have a sample or multiple samples from the Genos, you could import them into the sampler, create a multi-sample and then a sound. But the quick way is to find 3rd party sounds that sound like what your looking for. 👍🎹👍
Pa700 is excellent as well
@@JamesNoteology For sure.
Slightly off topic I create styles by combining tracks from different style
That will work.
@@jonmicheals621 the only problem is intros and endings. Intro1 and Ending1 is a pre recorded sequence so would have to be recorded from scratch and all tracks have to be in the same key. Have you created intros and endings from scratch?
@JamesNoteology This was a quick video. If I was producing a song, I would or could play the intros, fills, or endings while recording in my DAW. I do it this way only to create short backing track loops. 👍🎹👍
Channel 9 and 11 need to be swapped round 9 on Yamaha is Percussion and 11 is bass on Korg 9 is bass and 11 is percussion . Incidentally what version of cakewalk do you use ?
You are right. I have my software connected via Midi to my Pa5x and noticed that right away. So I just moved the tracks around until it sounded good. Cakewalk is now owned by Bandlab and it is free. I do have a lot of VST plugins from earlier versions, when it was called Sonar. When I am producing music, I use Cakewalk to mix then Sound Forge with Ozone for mastering.
john check qui robinez posts im sure you will be able to understand it regards colin
I did but his way of just changing the Markers did not work for me. I could not get the Pa5x to load that Midi file into Style editor. In fact, I can't get the Pa5x to load any file into the Style Editor unless it come from the Pa5x originally. It really had me confused. But finding out this info I now can see how to create Styles from scratch, just take a Style from the Pa5x delete the Midi data, edit the Markers and then create your own Style. Note... I do have a Midi connection from my Pa5x to my DAW. So, I can just create a loop and edit it on the fly in my software. This is really cool.
Super,👍👍👍👍
👍🎹👍
Really well explained but would take to long I saw another tutorial where they made a template for the korg channels this ssemed to work
@colinwhite4439 That would be a great idea. Create a blank Midi file with all the markers. Then you would just have to tranfer the data and reset the marker time. 👍🎹👍

Thanks Jon. Wow it’s a lot to think about, but you explain it well. I had Pa4x and now a 5x as soon as it came out. I few months ago I also got a Genos2. Hi John, I'm struggling with controlling the arranger from my daw. I want to just send the chords to PA5x that must then control the full accompanement similar to when i'm playing and generating the chords with my left hand. Is that even possible? I'm trying hard, but can't get it to work? Do you know how to do it, or if it can be done? Regards Thomas
@mrthomasheder At the present time Korg doesn't offer any software to link the Pa5x to it your DAW. I do have a video on how I use my DAW with a Pa5x. I do control some sounds using an external keyboard via MIDI, via 5 pin MIDI cable. So first, find out if your sound card on your system has a 5 pin MIDI out, and run the MIDI out of that card into the Pa5x. Then make sure all the MIDI channels are the same on the keyboard and your software. You might have to turn the MIDI clock to external MIDI. I know the Pa5x will accept external MIDI signals, because I sometimes run my electric drums via MIDI into the Pa5x, if I want the drum sound same as the style. Good Luck my friend. 👍🎹👍
Hi Jon, Do you know how can i add tremolo on cello voice?! I mean with assignable switches or pitch band.
@edikart4338 You bring up a very interesting point, I might have to do a video on this. So, look through your menu of sounds and you might have a sound that has the amount of tremolo you like preferably sounds that end with DN. But to adjust that sound, you have to select Rec/Edit, then Sound Edit, then select the sound you want to edit. Then go to Menu and select Pitch or Filter or Amp or LFO. All of this menus have an X and Y adjustments that you can make. And don't forget to look in the sub menus also. Especially in Filter submenu Mod. Now, keep in mind some of the sounds that have DN behind them already have a lot of this stuff buit into the sound. 👍🎹👍
@ Really appreciate you Jon, Is this going to work on my sampled cello voice?
My friend sampled the voice from Genos, it sounds amazing but missing tremolo.
You can use an insert effect
Check out last weeks video. I did one on the Joystick. There should be some information for you there. And yes you could use the FX send, then select an Effect that works.
So, some pretty cool stuff compared to my old PA800. I'd love to get a PA5X, but on Social Security, fixed income, well, God will really need to do something miraculous, which He is capable of, for me to get one. Okay, so, towards the end, you showed what happens when you go from major to minor. I'm not sure about the pads and such, but for regular chords, unlike any other manufacturer that I'm aware of, Korg has supported chord variations since the original i3. There are six chord variations, one for Major, one for Sixth, one for Seventh, one for Minor, one for Diminished and one for Augmented. They aren't always implemented for all styles, but for some they are. Can these pads be set up so if you're playing a different chord type, it'll also choose a different variation? You're making a pattern for a Major chord, and I'm guessing if you don't make one for a minor or Seventh, it will continue with just different notes, but can you also make a different pattern for each of the six variations? Chord Variations are discussed on pages 766-768. On Page 769, it goes into Pads and apparently you can use the Chord Variations there, too.
Thank you for another great tutorial! Really usefull for me!

Great, you are welcome. The thing to do is, go to that Guitar Mode and just play along with the metronome for a while. I found a lot of things by just hitting keys and finding out what does what. Also keep in mind where you are on the keyboard. If you change the octave up or down it will also change what the keyboard will play; from strums to notes. 👍🎹👍

@stevecalvert1382 There are a few ways you can do this. You can record everything you do on the Pa5x to an MP3, then, export it. What I do is run my outs to my software. Is it possible to transfer sounds and styles from my old Korg pa700 oriental to korg pa5x?
@owenbebjamin4604 You should, but it will depend on the sound or the style. I took the Styles from my Pa1000, created a folder, saved them to a USB drive, then up loaded that folder to the "Korg Disk," and I was able to access those Styles. hi Jon, I'm Yamaha keyboard owner and I'm quite interested on Pa5X. So far, this video is the only one that answers some of my questions about styles creation and I thank you for that. The only question that I have is: is it possible to change settings on multiple notes at once? For example, is it possible to select a range of notes (by using Shift button?) and then decrease velocity on all selected notes by the same amount? I ask, because I can do that on Yamaha and I use that ("Multi-Selection") a lot. Thank you for answering, wish you great time. Bogdan
Go to the link below, my UA-cam channel playlist, "Keyboard Info & Tutorials" and you will find more videos on this subject, and on the Pa5x. To answer your questions, when in the "Event Edit" you can only change the select note parameters. But if you tap twice on the parameter the keypad will appear. If I have to make changes to more than one note, that what I do. Tap twice then tap in your value. 👍🎹👍 ua-cam.com/video/yQKhjwdj8Cg/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared

@ thank you so much for your help
i tried this and it wouldnt load the midi is this because of the update
@colinwhite4439 Watch this video again, and you will see that bringing a Midi file into a player is not hard to do, providing it is a 16-track file. But bringing a Midi file into a Style is very hard. If that Midi file does not have all the information that it needs to create a Style, it will not accept that file. So, it depends on where you are taking that file to. I am using the latestest firmware update, and it seems to be working fine. 👍🎹👍
Jon - As a new PA5X owner I am really enjoying and benefiting from your videos. So thanks very much and keep up the great work! I was hoping you could clarify one of the early comments you made in this video. You mention how the sampling function in the PA5X does not allow you to layer multiple samples per note that could be triggered by velocity. My question: is this simply a limitation of the sample recording function of the PA5X, or is it a limitation of the overall SOUND EDITING capability of the keyboard? In other words, would it be possible to create a new sound in the PA5X (using its internal synthesis engine) that DID allow you to layer velocity-triggered samples per note if those samples were instead created on another sampling device or software program (e.g. Logic Pro or Ableton or the TX16Wx ) and then imported into the PA5X? I apologize in advance if I'm not explaining myself clearly here, as I am new to sampling in general.
