I have a Bluguitar Amp 1 Iridium. Tiny package, loud as hell, super portable. I can fit it in my Gigbag. However, I always bring a 412 for the Amp 1 to power. Even on low volumes the sound is big and punchy. I also got a Silver Jubilee Half Stack a year ago. Great Master Volume on that amp, the sound guy gets a DI signal for FOH from my Torpedo Cab M, and I drag that halfstack to every gig where I have space for it. In terms of not needing a bass amp, that is fully dependent on if the venue you are playing has a PA with subs that can actually play the low frequencies required. MANY small gigs are still done with a pair of 12" mains on sticks for vocals and keys and whatnot, so a bass amp is essential for getting the low end heard. Plus lots of monitor speakers aren't very good at pumping lots of low end either, so having a bass amp for personal monitoring on stage even when the FOH system is good can still be very helpful.

I've got a full closet of cases. I've fought the idea of gig bags, i bet i get one this Christmas and love it. I didn't get into 412 cabs and 100 watt heads. But the hill I'll die on is giving up my tube amps (many would include them in this discussion), not me. My kids will own them one day all while the next dozen versions of the kempers end up in landfills

I love amps but they are definitely going the way of the dinosaur. They will be a niche market eventually. Accurate modeling, artist who prefer a silent stage and the decline of Rock music. Amplifiers are only 5% of Marshall's sales. They are more interested in selling T shirts, headphones and Bluetooth speakers.

you guys are just looking for clicks....the stage you played on being largest is doubtful. digital sounds like crap and if you are to lazy to bring a real amp and cab, try another hobby like marbles or something. thats why all the music today SUCKS because of you guys no longer using real gear.

I'm pretty sure I said that when I played big shows with a crew, I loved having the large tube amp and cabinet, but now that is few and far between, I'll accept Matt's proposition that the existence of the half stack was ripe for extinction.

I'm more of a guitar player but I play bass once in awhile. There's still a place for bass amps, because there are great sounding Class D SS bass amps to go along with light weight cabs loaded with neodymium speakers that move a lot of air. Put that amp head in your bass gig bag pocket and carry the cab with one hand. Then again, there's nothing like a 6-power tube Ampeg SVT with a 8x10 cab. Just make sure you have a road crew to schlep it.

All I know is, the reason I don't think twice about the occasional pcb gear or amp with digital stuff or pedal that needs an app or whatnot, is because I have an immortal amp and a backup immortal amp. One is a vintage 65 twin, the other a dr. z maz 18, they can both be serviced forever so I went ahead and got the vibro champ reverb with the pcb and digital reverb, got a pcb studio vintage plexi, got a pcb drri, etc. etc. etc. But even though I never sell anything I'm always thinking of ALL the gear except the two immortal amps, as temporary.
