Established in 1995, Snips Movies has been tenacious in its unwillingness to be killed off by an ever-expanding roster of streaming platforms. A fervent supporter of physical media, this little shop that sits in Bebington, Wirral - four miles outside of Liverpool, UK - now boasts a rentable library of over 15,000 titles that span a century of cinema.

Hit List is such a fun movie. I watched it on UA-cam a couple of years back. Would definitely like a copy for my collection.
Good to see you back on screen Dave even though I see you in person every week
@@LeeBrennan-hl6ud Haha. You're OD'ing on Dave!!
Look at all of those Puppet Master blurays right in shot! Haha
Heimat , one of the best things ever on the telly. :)
I've just watched 'Hit List' [via UA-cam] and thought it was gobsmacking. Fantastic cast, absolutely no fat on it whatsoever and the direction was sensational; with a huge shout out to the car and stunt work in the final scenes .. bloody hell! Great chemistry between the leads, and by the end I'd have happily taken a sequel. Cheers for the recommendation. A proper Saturday night movie :)
@@coffee-jezus Excellent news. Glad you enjoyed it!
@@snipsmovies While different movies, it put me in mind of how much I enjoyed 'The Hidden' a few months back.
Popped in today; loving the new layout - perfect for finding unknown gems. Forgot to ask: for those of us that are region A compatible would you consider renting them out?
@@danielturner8740 Absolutely! Rob suggested a region A section, but I'd just be wary about people picking them up who didn't really know about the concept of different regions. Something to think about. Hope the drive back was bearable. Great to see you again.
The Front Room was panned but I really enjoyed it: looks great, is very silly, and played to me as a parody of A24 horror fare, mixing in scatological humour from early noughties gross out comedies. The brothers Eggers ain’t as good as Robert, but ‘The Front Room’ is worth a watch for anyone who doesn’t take themselves too seriously.
And mic sounds great, all very clear even on a very low volume.
Preferred the old mic , first thing I noticed this time was I had to turn the tv up. Brilliant show again , it’s good to be back to the full length, I’m always shocked how the time flies ✌️
@@terryuller2479 Gah! I'll tweak the position
Because of you I watched Nowhere which is bloody insane and hilarious
@@willd6215 Ahhh excellent news!
These videos always drop at the perfect time; doing the washing up on Friday evening is never a chore 🥳 Dave do you have the recent 4K disc of the best Christmas movie ever made? The thinking man’s It’s a Wonderful Life? I am of course talking about Dark Angel aka I Come in Peace starring Dolph Lundgren. It is watched every Christmas Eve in this house without fail. Anyway I can’t recommend the 4K enough, it looks unreal
@@delbongo Does it really? Ok cool, I'll stick that on the list!
Private Lessons is a guilty pleasure that I have loved since seeing it twice theatrically as a young boy and continually watching it on First Choice in Canada back in the early pay TV era. I had the Paramount VHS and was excited when I got the DVD years ago because it had an excellent commentary. Unfortunately the DVD had a mysteriously censored print that appeared to be from a Japanese source, so that bluray was such a welcome upgrade.
@@IndiephantomSofaSinema I really need to check it out
It’s been heavily cut by the BBFC.
Really strange about I saw the TV glow, one suspects they may plan to launch their own streaming service at some point? It would be an instant buy for me, but can't justify 50 bucks with shipping!

With great fondness I appreciated the little hints of Bob Fleming during this!
@@RobStringer-to8qx Icon and hero.
Woh. I gotta say, I really loved the approach of walking through the store to showcase the new stuff and the rentals. Gave me a better impression of the store space. Looks like you sell gift cards and bags, too. I met Gregg Araki and he was really cool. Nowhere is my favorite, but I also love The Doom Generation.
@@IndiephantomSofaSinema Nice! Absolute icon!
Hey i have been using your channel for recommendations lately. I love the section where you show your picks from what has been rented this week as there are different genres/ years etc not just all new stuff. Youve also got great taste. Please keep this section going. Chapters would be great on the video too. Keep up the good work
@@riseofthephoenix Thanks for watching!
Love the idea of the new layout and I think it’s a perfect evolution for how the store, and also how physical media collecting and curating has evolved over the last 5 years. Hopefully customers will make some amazing new discoveries!
Welcome back!
@@corey3rd Thank you!
The Heartbreak Kid! Never fear, I'm sure the Ben Stiller-starring remake is freely available on physical media.

Synchronicity! Picked up a copy of Night Of The Big Heat half an hour after sitting outside my fave cafe listenig to this episode - in the 5 for a pound section as well. Along with Ed Wood, Gunfight at the OK Coral, The Patriot and Stargate. :)

Looks like you are soon to crack that 1k subs. 🎉 I love those stickers from Severin and VS and have the them in my bathroom and other places.😅

I recently watched Madeline Stowe with Stallone in Avenging Angelo, both good and bad at the same time😅.
@@uncledouvee1200 Yeah, I have a soft spot for that movie
One Sly flick I still need to see.
Does the other store have a Jess Franco section? Have you seen the Scala documentary?
@@corey3rd Pfft! It ain't got any sections!! And yeah, a brilliant piece of work!
I think this is the apocryphal Richard Dreyfuss anecdote: "I had just won the Oscar. I get in the elevator to go back downstairs. Jack Nicholson gets into the elevator. There's me, a few other actors. Nicholson stands at the back, adjusting his shades, saying nothing. Then, just as the doors are about to open, he says to me, "Bet you're glad I didn't make a film this year." I was."
@@danielturner8740 Ha!! Love it!
Good show Dave, it’s a staple of my Friday nights now ! My question is , if you opened with 200 titles , then how did that fill the shop ? Also what happened to the original stock ?
@@terryuller2479 It was just spread out face forward. And of course we only had one wall of VHS. The other half of the shop has always been a secondary business, so that kinda took priority.
I've only just gone back to college this week and am already missing renting films, especially ones starring Harry Dean Stanton
@fallondavies7668 HDS is the GOAT.
A double feature of Cauldron's releases of Top Line and American Rickshaw will put on hair on your chest. Although your chest will now be on your head on another planet, but it's totally worth it.
@@DoomedMoviethon Haha!! Agreed
Hello mate, the film 'Life is beautiful' also tried to place comedy in a film about the holocaust. While checking if you have it on your database I noticed that the following films are listed incorrectly - they are in the 'L' section. Alien convergence Alien predator Alien siege Enjoying working my way through your content. Cheers Willie :)
@@willie_wit hmm, that's weird. Thanks for pointing it out though.
@@willie_wit Corrected!! Minor glitch. Easy fix.
The Big Picture is the pod with Tracy Letts (hosted by Sean Fennessey) - it was me that recommended, but maybe Brian too if he has to get the credit 😉
@@RobStringer-to8qx Ahh ha!! Thanks!!

Happy New Year to you Dave. Glad to see the show back, and here’s to a great year stuffed full of fabulous physical media!

Altered Innocence seems to be doing its own releases in US. They put out People's Joker and She is Conann.
Looking forward to seeing these really exciting changes within your fantastic shop. I've been fortunate enough to be in store when I've seen people walk up and ask how they can rent movies and to see the absolute delight and shock on their face when you just explain how easy it is. That's a true gift and will bring on the next generation of people renting. Keep up the great work!
Can't wait for next weeks episode with Warner Archive unboxing. Bit of a fan of WAC. It's second fastest growing section in my collection (after Kino Lorber Studio Classics). I also took part in that Movie Zyng sale, but only got 27 titles.
@@Sculder22 Nice haul! And yeah, I'm like a kid in a candy store with all their films
Hi Dave, how come you worked at Blockbuster when your Dad had a video shop and what, if anything, did you learn there that you used to get an edge over them?
@@RangersReview55 I finished Uni and intended to head into a career in teaching, so I only took a job at Blockbuster for some pocket money during the summer. As it happens, I liked the job, and I got promoted to store manager within six months. My Dad and I had never had the conversation about taking over the family business, as none of my brothers had expressed an interest. However, after five years at Blockbuster, my Dad was nearing retirement age, and it seemed like a sensible conversation to have.
I would see more classic films and quality films if I had a rental shop near me
Streamers are all getting worse and we're overwhelmed with different streamers. The prices rise, the choice seems to drop and the service and experience gets worse with us having to pay extra for the ad free experience these streamers used to use as a key selling point. As you pointed out on the gram, the lack of older films on Netflix is insane. Tubi has had a bit of a boom but they, like many similar platforms are also capped at 720 resolution so it's way, way off looking as good as a Blu Ray will.
Yeah, I think this year will see a few of them struggle. They just won't be able to retain their viewers as the cost of having multiple subscriptions becomes too much for many.
The boutique section of my nearest HMV has expanded recently. Great to see. I just wish we had the same amount of Criterion sales in the UK that they tend to get in the US.
£1.67?! Dave, you really should raise your prices, even if it’s only by a little! Even Apple’s prices are on the respectable side, I think. I rented a new release on my AppleTV a while back for £3.49, which is exactly what I paid at my local Blockbuster Video the last time I ever rented there well over a decade ago. At least make it a neat and round two quid! 😂
@@delbongo 3 for a fiver! So when you break it down it's a round number! £2.50 individually!
I live in Bristol and we still have a rental store called 20th Century Flicks who started out in 1982 I believe I haven’t been in there myself but I always hear good things about them.
Been subbed awhile btw but 1st time commenter. Saw the article on facebook and has been reposted by physical media collecters on you tube. I saw your comment on the vid and did let others know you exist 😂 So your welcome for a couple of subs, but not 200 odd. Just shows spamming/networking works 😂 I myself have never bought anything of streaming it is such a con. I have done vids myself on this topic of overcharging and advocate bootlegs and am greatfull to channels that upload films for free and save me money.
