Time flies when you're having fun and watching "Inside The Video Store". Have not watched Abigail yet, was thinking of leaving it till October ... the horror month. I've heard good things about it tho. Bluray is adequate and yeah not everything needs to be on 4K. All my VHS players have stopped working, but even if they worked I can't see myself going below DVD quality. It's sad to see a lot of smaller films left behind and even bigger studio films. Heyyy Silk Stalkings I remember watching this show on Finnish television. Got both "The Siege of Firebase Gloria" and "Busted" on blus from Kino Lorber. And both in my unwatched pile.
Awesome upload as always, The Assassin was one of the early 90s films that helped enrich my love for worldwide cinema (Luc Besson especially) so i love it for that reason, but certainly a good film in it own. I should really pick that up myself again. Thanks 👍
I don't think people appreciate that there's a young demographic of cinephiles showing interest in classic and cult cinema, who want to watch films that are interesting and might challenge them more than the production line mainstream stuff. It's especially frustrating as an attitude at the indie level of film distribution is to always go for the lowest common denominator and make the most formulaic things possible on budgets too low for a formulaic genre film. The popularity now of A24 and Neon et al among Gen Z shows that if you target the cinephiles with sensible expectations and make character-focused films, you could do well. I'm surprised really that they're aren't more distributors of the High Fliers level who consider doing more A24-esque films rather than the rinse-and-repeat horror, action, etc. As for those two young chaps. Cure is a great choice for a first rental. Incredible, skin-crawling film.
@@tomjolliffescreenwriter Yeah, they're very good points Tom. My demographic in-store has shifted quite dramatically towards the younger end of the spectrum. They're really ambitious with their picks too. Like I say to people, it's my generation who have become couch dwelling Netflix addicts, while it's actually with the younger people that there's a growing dissatisfaction around streaming, and a genuine curiosity to discover more.
Love the riffing format, and the evolution of the show. Monster Pictures also released many titles in Australia, including Excision, and one I really loved, Starry Eyes, highly recommended! It’s tells a dark tale about Hollywood and fame.
Johnny Handsome is in the Imprint Walter Hill box, on blu-ray, and they seem to release some of their box-set movies as singles a year or so after, so hopefully that will be avilable on Blu soon (I've been waiting!)...
I was looking through my MGM Limited Editions on MOD. Have you seen Milton Katselas's Report to the Commissioner? The film is a rather gritty and decent police corruption/ drug ring drama that, once again, never gets mentioned much today. The first time I ever saw the film was way back in 1985 when Warner Home Video put the film out on UK pre-cert rental. Then, in 1990, BBC 2 showed Report to the Commissioner. It's worth a watch. Whether it's still hovering around on MOD, no idea. As far as I can remember, MGM has never officially released the film in the UK on DVD or Blu.
@@dr.impossibleofcounterpunc1984 Funny you should say this. I was transcribing interviews for my Gary Graver book that my co-author had done. One of the guys he spoke to was the production designer on Report to the Commissioner, and he went off on a lengthy tangent with all these stories about trying to find the right seedy locations in NYC. So interesting. As you say, a criminally underseen film.

@@Sculder22 Yeahhh, it is a culture shock watching VHS again, but with so many of my favourite films stuck on the format, I feel I need to really.

@@carl3035 Thanks Carl, and yeah, it's funny how some remakes enable us to delve deeper into world cinema.

Any chance you’ll be able to sign the book once released? Hopefully it pops up on the show.

@snipsmovies Odd, isn't it. I only watched the film last week on DVD. 😆 It must be film fate.
Dave, where would one start on British Horror post 2000's?
