Dont discount Collingwoods depth. Many dual position players, lot of half back runners and therefore increased midfield options with Houston etc, big improvements expected from the likes of Reef Mccinnes as a defender, and some of the raw youth who may not work out, do possess talent, such as De Mattia who has a ripping blind turn and pace. Not many gun kids, no, but enough talent in each department to cover injuries better than in 2024 with the retirement of Murphy. Its a great squad, but can they find the right lineup and chemistry with big expectations going into a hard fixture. Thats my question

I don't believe in the premiership window concept at all. Its plain and simple, teams that win a lot of games play finals. Teams that have the perseverance win finals matches and ultimately win the grand final. Make your own luck, not relying on stats and data.

freo sent heath chapman to qatar during feb of last year, and chappy had one of his best years ever, so not too concerned about darcy going now in jan, also i think freo asking lukey j to put on some weight is also not a reflection on the darcy combo, and more so jacko was just completely bullied by every big bodied ruck he was put against, and every team figured it out, so it was just an important area for him to improve on

That's the beautiful thing about the modern day AFL, each season is unpredictable and premiership windows are largely just predictions and not anything to trust completely.

Another very important factor you overlooked. Injures to key position stars. The overall health of the list. Review Collingwood 2024 and that's why they missed. But we're coming back hard as the list got healthy again towards the end. Brisbane breathed a sigh of relief with them just missing finals

I would say you simply assess it by consistency. So if a club is consistently playing Finals over a period of time with maybe 1 or 2 poor seasons in between than they are definitely in the window for Premiership contention. It also needs to be mentioned that Premiership contention doesn't have to mean just winning or making the Grand Final. I would say consisten Preliminary Final appearances also very much hold up to that standard. Last but not least Fox's Premiership window is total nonsense because it changes far too often throughout the season and has no real consistency whatsoever. I don't care how competitive the competition keeps getting. You can't keep changing your mind on who you think is or isn't around the mark of either Finals or Premiership contention when you are supposed to be a respected analyst and voice of the game. You pick who believe is around those marks usually right before the season starts and stick with it. If you end up been wrong then just suck up your ego, admit it and maybe even laugh to yourself.
