    What really gets things going is the blower. It might be good to bring a shop vac on exhaust. That way no batteries to run down. Just let it blast away. Keeps the ash off the coals, too.

    • @LivingCommonSense
      @LivingCommonSense День тому

      The blower is almost a must. The one I used here is corded so very similar to the shop vac exhaust. I'm mostly concerned with the duty cycle of the tiny motors in these blowers and how long they'd last running for a long time. I surely would need to keep an eye on it too because it send lots of embers into the ether while its running...but the vac surely gets it going well.

    Btw… the pumps don’t go out too often. The diaphragms do for that type linear pump. You can by a rebuild kit for $20-$40 dollars. Takes about 5 minutes to install. Don’t forget to reset the switch on the top or change the shear pin that comes with the kit. Lots of videoed on how to do that too. Super simple!

    Great video thx. If you’re doing your own maintenance now there is a diffuser on the end of the air line in your tank that needs to be replaced from time to time. Don’t forget about that. A new aerator pump is $450 installed.

    Hey how does it work to pump water and leaves off the top of pool cover?

    • @LivingCommonSense
      @LivingCommonSense 24 дні тому

      Probably no better than when I tried to use it to vacuum a bed of leaves off the bottom of the pool. It's ok for small debris but an inch or more of leaves will definitely clog it up. I'd say the best bet is to siphon the water of the top of the pool cover and then maybe a shop vac to pull off wet leaves until the cover is lite enough to pull it off of the pool. Just don't get a full siphon going into the shop vac because the water won't stop even after the vacuum is full. You'd have a big mess with water, leaves everywhere and possibly a shorted out vacuum if it forced water up into the motor assembly.

    Suggest you leave the ash layer alone, let it insulate the burning stump, then set your alarm for ten days to two weeks. No peeking. BTW, leave the barrel in place to prevent anyone from putting their foot down into hell. DOUG out

    • @LivingCommonSense
      @LivingCommonSense Місяць тому

      I don't usually let them sit long enough to dry out before I start burning them. The green ones really don't want to stay lit. If I'd give it enough time to dry out, your idea would probably work well.

    Cool idea 💡 If you add some length to the stove pipe, even extend it down on the inside will add performance because of extra air flow.

    • @LivingCommonSense
      @LivingCommonSense Місяць тому

      I like the extend it down idea. I have added a length to the top and it created good draw but seems like it pulled most of the heat out with the smoke. Extending it down into the barrel would at least keep more heat inside the barrel and perhaps force heat to the bottom as it is drawn out. I'll have to try that.

    Your stump was live by the live branches around the stump. After cutting the tree, spread epsom salt on and around the stump to kill it. Prefer cross cut with saw. Score the visible roots too. When you build the fire build it around the stump and roots. It will all burn away. I have had roots that burned below ground for days if not a week after the main fire was out.

    • @LivingCommonSense
      @LivingCommonSense Місяць тому

      Yeah this one definitely still green. I've not had one burn the roots very well because of that. The saw removes material so much faster than the drill bit. I probably won't bother with the bit on the next one.

    I've got a 2019 F150 and the factory inverter has been less than impressive. My laptop has a 240w power supply and the inverter can't provide enough power. In my other vehicles i have wired a 6 AWG to the battery and use a cheqpo Walmart 400w inverter without any issues. Pretty disappointing im going to have to replace this with something different. Prerty ridiculous there is less power while driving. I agree doesnt make much sense. The alternator obviously puts out more power above idle.

    • @LivingCommonSense
      @LivingCommonSense 2 місяці тому

      At this point, I'll assume they put that language in the manual to give themselves some wiggle room if they needed to reduce the inverter output in the future. I only use the onboard inverter for a small space heater my wife uses when the temperature dips below a chilly 70F. Other than that there is not much use for it.

    • @vfr800ification
      @vfr800ification 2 місяці тому

      I'd like to see if I can find a wiring diagram for the unit and just replace it with a real 400w unit. I'm not opposed to running a direct wire to the battery and using a relay if needed. I haven't looked at all, as I was just hoping this thing would work ok when I bought the truck last month. I'm actually surprised it runs any kind of heater.

    • @LivingCommonSense
      @LivingCommonSense 2 місяці тому

      It is a 250w personal heater but it is mostly a resistive load that inverters prefer. Things like motors and transformers are inductive loads that result in a lower max power that can be obtained from the inverter. Look up "power factor inductive loads" if you're interested in that type of info.

    Tried a 3000 Honda generator/ inverter on a refrigerator and it would not run the compressor. Does size and length of the extension cord affect the power quality and output? Used a 100 foot -2 awg cord

    • @LivingCommonSense
      @LivingCommonSense 2 місяці тому

      @brucewestergaard - The size and length of the cord will affect the output but only some voltage drop over long distance. First up, you say you have a 2-awg cord but probably meant 12 awg? Two awg is huge but 12 awg is plenty for a refer/compressor. I'd need more information to determine the issue like does the inverter trip out because overload or the engine bogs down too much with the compressor kicks off? Does the refer detect low voltage over the extension cord and shut down? Any other loads plugged into the inverter? Just some more info about the setup.

    I stopped fighting the battle with brain dead engineers, I own both ford and Toyota, I bypassed both systems and put in dedicated pure sign inverters with 250amp alternators with the proper sized wiring and fuses. On the stock 400w inverters I use an adjustable rectifier to change the square sign inverter to 48v dc for charging my echoflow 1800w power station thru the solar ports.

    • @LivingCommonSense
      @LivingCommonSense 2 місяці тому

      Well that's an interesting implementation for charging a power station. I would not have thought of that. I guess it has a voltage regulator set at 48v and I assume the echoflow handles the charge rate based on charge level of the battery. I am surprised the power station didn't pull more than the inverter can produce. That a cool hack. Thanks for watching.
