Imagine dying at work, being brought back to life and still having to go back to work for the same company.. That really sucks..
but did his PTO transfer over? 😆
I FART IN YOUR GENERAL DIRECTION
The Sword in the Stone was Arthur's other sword, he got Excalibur from the lady of the lake.
You're telling me he had two swords?! I always thought it was one and the same.
They didn't have the budget for horses, let alone a big battle.
- The "remake" you mentioned is actually a prequel that focuses on what happened at the Norwegian camp before the American camp got to it. - There was a stop-motion scene in the filming (the giant monster scene), but it was edited out of the movie. Too cheesy. - Another scene edited out was Fuchs' death. They just left in finding his glasses. - A scene left out was the marijuana "farm" at the camp. - The Norris-Thing chest monster scene was done by an actual double amputee who was fitted with prosthetic arms. - Blair was probably infected when doing the autopsy. He used a pencil to poke around the remains, then put the pencil's contaminated eraser to his mouth. - At the end, if MacReady was the Thing, he would've infected Childs by passing the whiskey bottle to him. MacReady did have a suspicious smile after Childs took a swig. If both men froze to death, the world would still be infected. Rescuers would recover both bodies. As MacReady said earlier, that Thing wanted to freeze so it could be found again by rescuers who would become infected and spread it throughout the world in about 3 years.
The remake premise is interesting! maybe one day... You're probably right about Blair, but if not it's not a far reach to say the thing somehow got to him while in the shed. Fuch's death scene would be cool to see! I'm still in awe at how bleak this ending is, I love it.
It's a wrongful arrest of Launcelot, Arthur and Bedivere. The knight who killed Frank the Famous Historian was on an _actual_ horse, which none of the Knights of Round Table had 🫤
It's a solid defense "I can't afford a horse!"
@OfficialDNJmoviehouse Thank Gob there was a sale on coconuts! 😝
Monty Python member Terry Gilliam directed "The Fisher King" (1991), starring Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges. I feel Robin's character in that movie was meant to be similar to the knights in this one.
Never heard of this one but it looks pretty cool! Thanks for the heads up!
Because of Monty Python a new word entered the English language to describe their type of humour - Pythonesque
@@davidwebb4451 humour that is absurd and unpredictable. Thats awesome haha
The monks hitting themselves is a reference to the Flagellants. During the period of the Black Death groups of people went from village to village scourging themselves, whipping themselves and inflicting other punishments on their bodies, in the belief that their suffering, mirroring that of Christ, would show their penitence and ward of the black death (which was seen as God's punishment for the wickedness in society). Even today some individuals and Christian cults still practice self flagellation,
love how this generation constantly refer to " breaking the 4th wall, " instead of simply - talks to camera - as exemplified by Michael Caine in " Alfie ," - 60 years earlier.
@@ericj166 wouldnt theater viewers of this when it came out have called it 4th wall? Its only 9 years newer than Alfie.
There's an animated version of the Genesis song "Supper's Ready" available on UA-cam. The person who created the animation included this King Arthur and his holy hand grenade in one part of the song.
@@triadmad We gotta check that out TY!
Shoutout to Mick Fleetwood cameo as Mick - one of the founders of the band Fleetwood Mac . His comment about banning all his songs..
@@RatelRegalement we recognized his face but had no idea lol.
When i first watched this movie, I was laughing my head at just the subtitles during the opening credits.
The original generation watching this film had a TON of advantages new audiences lack. In the theatre, there were soooo many fans of the MP TV show that they understood HOW to watch it, understood when they heard the beginnings of The Running Gag (moose, llamas, coconuts vs. swallow's air-speed velocity) and I think EVERYONE knew what a Newt was. And most everyone was familiar with Europe's black-death era, the Plague and the whole "bring out yer dead" wagon. As well as the Trojan BUNNY and how hilarious that was as a gag. These led to in-theater whispers, "Don't you remember World History?" and "Just wait for moose and llama bits" which never happened. A joke's in that, too.
@@bitfenix90 tbf we did enjoy it more while editing so we will def give it a second watch and see what we missed the first time around!
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse In 50 years of movie fandom, there aren't too many films that aren't improved by rewatching - and over time, too. Only a handful are useful to immediately rewatch - like, next day. 1996's FUNNY BONES is one of those. It really begs for an almost "let's sit and watch it all over again" because it was crude humor that 'makes sense' and it's a crime mystery, too, and the most off-putting soundtrack - initially. But the immediate rewatching made us think, "Oh yes, NOW I see how it all fits together!" An excellent film, too. HOLY GRAIL remains so much fun with a big theater audience, too. When it plays in a nearby film festival, take the chance - it is so much funnier with the hysteria of the crowd.
Sir Galahad can't count either. "Eight score" is 160, not 150. He wants to underestimate the danger.
Like casting pearls before swine
More about them than the film-constant interruptions and not worth watching.

The Holy Grail is literally a chalice.
@@johnmaynardable Have you seen the Indiana Jones movie I was referencing? Was it the holy grail they were drinking out of? Its been so long I barely remember that movie lol

@@johnmaynardable Gotcha ty!
The monks banging their heads with bibles, are what we call in the UK; Bible Bashers, people who are always shoving religion in your face.
How do you know so much about swallows? Well, you have to know these kind of things if you’re a king you know.😅
LOL I was never a fan of Monty Python when I was at school (mid-late 80s) but I realised some years back that it was because I had a friend that forever get 'banging on and on and on about it' I mean endlessly quoting. It drove me mad. Anyway I gave it a try again in my 40s (by myself, no Monty Python #1 fan next to me) and found it all really funny. Needless to say I now own the series, all the movies and even the early pre-Monty tv shows on dvd. Wacky humour but even those that are not ultra fans, surely find a few jokes funny :) Thanks guys!
Out of the whole collection which one is your favorite? We'll be reacting to Life of Brian and maybe some more depending on how that goes.
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse honeslty, you were right in saying if this movie was condensed down to an episode... that is how Monty Python started, so I recommend the Monty Python sketches first (there are a fair amount here on YT they are ultra silly and insane madness but fun). The Life Of Brain just beats Holy Grail in my view, but again, I had not been much into all of this back in the day, it kinda grows on you (in small doses lol) You have to watch all 3 movies though, each have memorable scenes (4th is a mishmash of skits to be honest) After watching Life of Brian, there's a YT video where John Cleese defends the movie to a Bishop that you two can watch in your own time maybe. 'Life Of Brian- 1979 Debate (1/4)' Interesting that I think the Bishop was expecting an easy win debate, but Cleese really held his own! :D
@@watchreadplayretro We’ll have to check em all out! Were hopefull for Life of Brian!
" 'Ere. 'E says 'e's not dead." A perfect example of postwar British comedy writing, the surreal irony of Spike Milligan that has been part of the fabric of British comedy ever since.
We both loved this one. We didn't even notice the lady with the cat in this scene until editing!
Interesting fact: Monty Python has been referenced in the Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, and in games and films such as Ready Player One by Stephen Spielberg! (The holy Hand grenade).
Thanks for the trivia! Shows how big this movie was. The Holy Hand Grenade scene was definitely one of our favorites from the movie.
minstrels were medevil musicians..
and food for winter!
"there's some funny parts".... followed by a long list of those things that landed.... 😂
Haha tbf during editing we noticed we enjoyed it a bit more so maybe this movie will get a 2nd or 3rd view from us.
the animation was done by Terry Gilliam who went on to produce the likes of Brazil and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Oh the director did the animation as well? Interesting! I'm assuming that's literally him who falls down in his chair?
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse yes thats him. Patsy. they were a regular feature in Monty Pythons Flying Circus
Terry Gilliam based these animations on real drawings, such as the butt trumpets, that bored medieval monks did in the margins of the manuscripts they were copying. The drawings also inspired the idea of the killer rabbit later in the movie such killer rabbits apparently being a favourite image in the monks' drawings.
There are silent films in the 20's that broke the 4th wall. Bob Hope movies in the 40's did it all the time, too. They couldn't afford a big battle scene, or horses.
My mind also went to live theater when the narrator would speak to the audience in between scenes.
1. What about the moose? 2. Paying attention to the opening credits (If you can) makes it better for everyone, including you. 3. The first time I saw this was in the back of a pickup at a drive-in (it's still here) with my siblings and a couple of friends. 4. Perfect Monty Python where you can just get sucked into something where you don't have to think about anything and just let yourself go. 5. "What ya gonna do? Bleed on me."🤣 "We'll call it a draw" 🤣 6. Quick bit: "Blow it out your ass"! 7. The ultimate cock block 😭 8. Robin's shield is a chicken. 9.The only horse in the film is ridden by the guy that killed the historian. 10.The ending sucked. It was a cop out. Literally They ran out of 🤑🤑
No moose were harmed! We've never been to a drive in theater - One day! The ending as a cop out now makes sense LOL
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse If you ever get the chance, go. You can bring your own food, drinks etc
Such an American thing to go instantly to, "She can sue him, right?"
Haha fair we can't help ourselves! But surely you wouldn't count this amongst other frivolous sue cases though right?
@OfficialDNJmoviehouse - To be honest, in Britain, I don't think suing someone is seen as a positive thing. Especially suing a publicly funded service, such as the police or the health service or the fire service. If I get paid a million pounds by the police service, which is already underfunded and struggling, imagine how that looks to the rest of society. It's just seen as robbing money from the public, which would make you very unpopular. Suing an organisation like Microsoft or Google is a very different thing, right?
@@steveymoon That’s an interesting perspective. I was thinking more of getting back at the mayor but then police/fire ect is funded by the city so they would be affected. Just a tough situation for the mother all around, and I feel like the mayor got off easy in this movie.
@OfficialDNJmoviehouse - Yeah I agree. The idiot should certainly be fired.
Life of Brian, the Holy Grail, and the Meaning of Life... five of my favorite films.
I see what you did there. Nice
"Three sir!"
PG
🤣
I've watched A LOT of reactions to this movie you guys have been the most disingenuous so far.
Sorry you feel that way.
one of my favorite breaking of the 4th wall is in a marx brothers movie. chico is about to play a song on the piano, and groucho looks into the camera and says, "i have to stay here, but there's no reason you folks shouldn't go into the lobby until this blows over". interesting fact: the scene where dingo breaks the 4th wall in "holy grail" was cut from the original theatrical release. it was added back in for the dvd version.
Ohh thanks for the tidbit that's pretty neat!
If you want a strong non comedic version of the King Arthur story, try out the very violent Excalibur (1981).
Thanks for the recommendation, we'll add it to the list!
Had King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table actually completed their quest and found the grail, Indiana Jones would have been out if a job. No mooses were harmed in the making of this documentary.
1 rabbit snuffed it during the making of this documentary.
"I found some parts would hit with me, and some parts maybe not so much." That's Monty Python in a nutshell. Their humor is all over the place. A lot of it is intelligent and sophisticated ("Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony"), but they're also not afraid to go for cheap laughs like silly names ("I am Zoot's identical twin sister, Dingo") and nonsense words ("Ni!"), and some of it is completely random ("You must cut down the mightiest tree in the the forest with... a herring!"). And breaking the fourth wall ("... when suddenly, the animator suffered a fatal heart attack!") is just par for the course for them. Personally I prefer clever humor over dumb humor, and Monty Python has plenty of both. And even some of their dumb humor is hilarious. But yeah, it's kind of hit and miss. This movie is basically just an extended episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus. The main difference is that Flying Circus is a sketch comedy show, so it rarely has a consistent narrative from beginning to end.
We've heard Life of Brian has a more standard feeling movie narrative and might give that one a try. I've mentioned this on other replies but during editing we seemed to enjoy the movie a bit more, so it might warrant a 2nd or 3rd viewing from us. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouseThe jokes in this movie come so thick and fast that you generally miss some on the first viewing (or even subsequent viewings). For instance you may concentrate on Sir Robin's minstrels song and miss the details on the signs or miss the fact that the image on Sir Robin's shield is a chicken.
@@davidwebb4451 we def missed the chicken, and we missed the lady hittingg the cat on the wall during the crate scene lol
Your lukewarm reaction to this comedy masterpiece baffles me. What a shame.
Sorry, the frenchman farting in our general direction got to us.
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse It's silly in a very intelligent way. Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time! 🙂
Unfortunately, they only had a limit amount of funding to make this movie. So that is why they had to use the coconuts. The end of the movie is where they ran out of money and had to end abruptly.
No money to pay for Lancelot's and Arthur's lawyer?
Merlin?! They couldn’t even afford horses (I mean, that one horse wasn’t even theirs, and it just so happened that a mounted knight with a vendetta against famous historians was in the area during that scene), and you think they’d really have the wizard budget for Merlin? Now _that_ is just silly. Well, I shall forgive you this time, for your bravery in this perilous reaction, and shall, therefore, not say Ni to you again.
Thank you, I won't do it again! They really killed it with the limited budget! That scene with the mounted knight with a vendetta was a crazy one, wasn't it? It is time for me to leave this conversation, but thank you for commenting (on it).
Ni !!!
Google offered to translate Ni and it comes out as "It is". So there it is!
Abbott and Costello broke the 4th wall in many of their movies. But, right before Monty Python put out The Holy Grail a movie came out that took the 4th wall and twisted it into a pretzel, then beat it with a rubber hose: Blazing Saddles.
Is Blazing Saddles good? Would you recommend it for a reaction? We haven't heard of this movie until very recently.
@OfficialDNJmoviehouse one of the best and funniest westerns ever made. Mel Brooks took the period of reconstruction and life in a small western town to the extreme.
@ Nice, we’ll have to add it to the list!
@@tenjed4224 yeah his movies are good, too bad he went and endorsed a racist for president
Monty Python _and_ Mel Brooks stuff back then were a comedic force.
Just a flesh wound!
We'll call it a draw then 🤣
The concept of the fourth wall is fairly recent in the history of drama. But characters technically breaking the fourth wall has existed for a very long time, even back to the ancient Greeks.
I was thinking Shakespeare but totally forgot about the greeks haha.
The horses got cut from the budget
They had enough for just one at least!
To allow for all the moose and llamas.
ED-209 was a prototype, probably needed a few software updates to master the stairs! 😜
stair patch 1.0 lol!
Monty Python humour is definitely different. Not every joke works for everyone, that was true of their tv series as well, but the ones that do land are very funny. The members of Monty Python are all really well educated, and there are definite depths to their humour if you're in the know. The battle of the black knight vs the green knight, the story of the Lady in the Lake, even down to the way they always say "run away" rather than "retreat" because the word "retreat" is of French origin and wouldn't have been available in English until after William the Conqueror - there's always more to know and learn... but then, a lot of it is just fun for fun's sake too :)
Oh interesting about the retreat bit, we had no idea! There were parts that were really funny for us, but some of the jokes ran for long time and so if it didn't land it wasn't landing for the entire time.
Even the rabbit has some historical accuracy. Look it up. There are genuine medieval illustrations which depict some rather murderous bunnies.
@@0okamino lol I just looked it up and that's wild. They even gave it a sword and shield🤣
This is my favourite Monty Python movie. Your 3/5 is fair, if you're not used to this type of humour. I've seen a couple of reactors barely laugh at all watching this, so at least you had a better time than them. In my experience us Europeans find Monty Python (both the movies and their TV show) funnier than North Americans do. I guess we are used to different types of comedy, and there's nothing wrong with that. In Europe a lot of people hate the laugh tracks that American comedy shows often have. For example here in Finland the dry and sarcastic British humour has always been very popular.
I wonder if this one will resonate with us more on a 2nd or 3rd view. It felt 'funnier' during editing and it might be due to us just being more used to the style now. Also it's funny you bringing up the laugh tracks, as the TV show Friends is our guilty pleasure and we have that one running all the time!
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse Yes, if you haven't seen Monty Python before, it might take a few viewings to get used to their comedy. I think you might enjoy Life of Brian more than this, if religious humour doesn't offend you (the movie was actually banned in some places back in the day). Life of Brian isn't as absurd as The Holy Grail and is more like a "real" movie, and also had a bigger budget. And yes, shows like Friends are also very popular here, despite the laugh tracks, so they don't bother people too much if the show is good.
We were looking at Life of Brian as well, and ended up deciding on Holy Grail for this week. We might end up checking it out next month sometime. Sounds like we might jive with it a little more and religious humor doesn't bother us at all!
I have a video of me and my friends quoting this movie back in the 80’s! I love the channel, don’t give up! It takes time to build then out of nowhere it’ll boom. I Love both of you. Richard, you’re a handsome guy but Jane has got to be THE most beautiful woman on UA-cam! I know it’s not about looks, but I’m just a weirdo on UA-cam and wanted to throw out a compliment to Jane. Everyone likes a little ego boost! Thanks for the reactions you two!
Thanks for the compliments! We enjoy the entire process from watching/reacting to editing and will continue to put videos out!
when i first saw this, i mustv been in the right mode to enjoy it, because i really did, but then it actually started giving me a bad vibe later on, so its weird in that way, and i dont blame any reactors that arent feeling it, but i still enjoy when a reactor is feeling it
Not going to lie while going through the edit process the movie felt a bit better.
Im not smart enough for this movie i didnt get it 😭
LOL it was hit or miss for us but the ones that landed were really funny IMO
Lol. It's supposed to be nonsensical. Just take the jokes at face value.
