Is there a downloadable/printable manual for the 8200 qcp?
If you have arthritis in your hands and fingers this handle with these big buttons is really really hard to grip onto. I wish I had never bought it.
I agree! The M3Pro is definitely more ergonomical.
I watched several videos, but yours was the best. Thanks for sharing.
I am so glad you found my tutorial helpful!
I bought this machine in Oct 24 and all of your videos are very helpful!!! ❤
Thank you! I'm so glad they are helpful. Let me know if you have any more questions!
Just give that free pattern. Not want to get spammed by your marketing 😂
Hello, I’ve watched this video a few times. I want to make 12.5 square. What would the dart measurements be for this size?
Made one ! The way she places the hanging loop puts it at the bottom of the cuff ! Ugh
I'm not sure about your comment. The loop should be placed with the raw edges even with the raw edges of the stocking and the cuff. Also, the loop is placed against the right side of the cuff. So the layers are stocking, cuff, loop, and then lining. You can see this at 21:40. Hope this helps!
I wish I could send pictures, but going off your video, I changed the dimensions and made a cozy for my French white Corning ware that do not have handles. It has been a problem every year trying to pass those dishes. But now I made an oversized cozy for the oval bowl it works even if it is coming out of the oven. Thank you so much! I really appreciated this video. You are a great teacher!
I am so glad you found my tutorial helpful! It's great to know it's been working for you with your Corning ware!
The batting states it’s only safe to use for 20 seconds at a time in microwave.
That's interesting. The recommendations from the manufacturer have changed through the years and also varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. I try to stay on top of this, but things change. ALWAYS BE SURE TO READ AND FOLLOW THE MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS. The latest (as of 11/13/2024) printed instructions from the Pellon brand of Wrap-N-Zap states: "We suggest cooking in 1 minute intervals for a maximum of 8 minutes. Never leave the microwave unattended. Do not use in a Convection/Microwave oven." Hope this helps!!
In the tutorial, what size did you cut the fabric for the placements? Love your instructions btw!
Rather than telling you what size to cut your fabric, I give recommendations so you can customize the size to fit your needs. Those recommended sizes are: 11″x14″ 12″x16″ 12″x18″ 14″x18″ My placemats were 12"x18" Hope this helps!!
You didn’t say what machine settings you put it on mode 1 mode e 2??
I am in Mode 1 Stitch 11. But you can also use stitch 12 in Mode 1 on the Janome 8200. Hope this helps! Pam Baker Hooked on Sewing
Any bowl cozy that I have ever seen? Has a stitch from corner to corner across the bottom, to keep the batting secure.
Yes. That is what I do as well. This secures the batting to the fabric and keeps it from shifting. You can see at 4:10 in the video that I draw the diagonal (corner to corner) stitching lines and stitch basically an X using cotton thread. Thanks for pointing this out! Pam Baker Hooked on Sewing
Have you considered making a video of this lined?
That's a good question. I have made the reading pillow where it is lined. I only sewed the lining as basically the backing for the front since that is what I quilted. I do have a tutorial "in the works" for sewing the reading pillow with a tie closure and one with a zipper closure. If you aren't using directional fabric, you could even simply the pattern by cutting one piece of fabric for the front and back of the pillow cover. So many options.... If there's something in particular you'd like to see, let me know and I'll see what I can do! Again, thanks for asking! Pam Baker Hooked on Sewing
I wondered why you stitched 2 darts and then marked and stitched the other 2. I feel like there is a reason but wanted to ask.
I find it easier to work in one area before moving to the next area. You already have your dart ready to sew, so why have to come back to sew after marking the other two darts? Also, some marking tools rub off easily, so you might lose them.
Honestly, it was because I thought I had already made all the marks. I make so many bowl cozies that I don't typically even make the marks, so it was a mental slip. Also, it makes it quicker for me to stitch the first two marked darts, then refold the pieces to mark the second two darts and stitch the darts. If I mark all four darts and then stitch the darts, it makes an extra step. (Mark, refold, mark, stitch, refold, stitch versus mark, stitch, refold, mark, and stitch - so 7 steps versus 6 steps.) Hope this helps! Pam Baker Hooked on Sewing
So cute!
Thank you! These are really fun to make and you can be so creative with them!
You made it very clear& perfact way to show the tutorial. Thank you very much.
You’re very welcome! I’m so glad you found it helpful!

How to use each feed that come with the machine?
That's a great idea! I'll start a series after the holidays on each of the feet. Thanks again for the suggestion! Pam Baker Hooked on Sewing
Why don’t you round the corners, with so much batting wouldnt it be easier?
I cut the batting slightly smaller than the fabric. So, that helps to reduce the bulk. I have made cozies with rounded corners. Haven't decided if I like them more or not. Here's the pros and cons, in my opinion. Pro squared corners: The squared corners give you more to hold onto when lifting the bowl filled cozy out of the microwave. Con squared corners: The corners tend to get in the way when you are using the cozy. For example when you ladle soup into a bowl. Really, it's just a matter of personal preference. So, try it with the rounded corners and let me know what you think!
I never knew these existed until today
You’re gonna love them!
I have fabric that has been preshrunk. What happens when I wash the cozy that has cotton batting.
I find the batting may shrink a little, but not enough to make a difference. Also, I lay my cozies out to dry instead of drying in the dryer.
Could I use 80/ 20 cotton batting for the cozy. Great tutorial!
Unfortunately you need to use batting that is deemed microwave safe.
Very thorough tutorial, but also would appreciate adding "boxed" bottom instructions please.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll be sure to add those instructions to a future video.
Do you wash your fabric before you cut it yo make these bowl cozys?
I typically don’t wash the bowl cozy fabric first because I don’t pre wash the cotton batting.
Thank you for your tutorial. It was very through and easy to follow. Out of all the tutorials yours was the best by far.😊
That’s very kind of you. Thank you!
Hi, I watched your first video and was able to figure out how to make the cozy just by you giving the verbal instructions and the little bit I could see that you were doing. When you were making the darts .My question is how can I make a bigger and deeper bowl cozy, for bigger bowls. I have bought the patterns, but I prefer your instructions. They are much easier and a lot less cutting.thank you for your wonderful tutorials
That’s a good question. I’ve been working on making instructions on how to make a bowl cozy for any size bowl, but it’s still a work in progress. Basically you measure across the bottom of the bowl. Then measure from the bottom, up the side of the bowl to the top. Then add 1” for seam allowance. So make a circle this big. It may be helpful to do it in paper first. You need your darts to be as long as the side of your bowl (bowl height). Then figure out how wide you need the top of the dart to be. If this doesn’t make sense, I’ll have a video tutorial ready in a few weeks.
@@hooked-on-sewing thank you ❤
Do you have the pattern available to print to size? When I print from the webpage I get small scale images.
The pattern should be emailed to you and you can print that pattern.
I paid $125 for that little piece of junk it won't steam it has never steamed it's a piece of garbage
Good to know! Was that the M2 or M3 that you had that experience with. I did not like the M2 version at all. But have had no issues with the M3. I also don’t usually use the steam function.
I wish there was something in here explaining how to put the pattern together. What you have here doesn't match the downloadable pattern from your site.
Sorry this isn’t clear. You will line up pieces A1, A2, and A3. So, attach pieces A1 and A2 together so the squares and side edges line up. I recommend taping the pieces together. Then line up the circles on pieces A2 and A3. Tape those together as well. With all theee pieces taped together, it should now look like a stocking. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
@@hooked-on-sewing Hi, I have the same problem. The circles don't line up and the squares don't line up either. Maybe a printing issue?
@@LydiaPicking I'll have to re-check the printing of the pattern. Basically, the circles and squares are just there so you know to line up those sections together (circles to circles, squares to squares). What's most important is to line up the outside cutting edges. I apologize for any confusion. Hope this explanation helps! Pam Baker Hooked on Sewing
What type of sewing machine do hou use?
I use the Janome 8200 QCP sewing machine and I love it!
What is the benefits of the second roll of stitching?
I think it adds an extra row that helps to secure the cotton batting in place and it helps the edge to lay flatter. Plus, I think it gives it a more polished look - personal preference.
Did you fail to tell us that you cut the batting a quarter inch smaller than the fabric. So it cuts down on the bulk. I notice you did that but didn’t mention. Thanks for the tutorial 😊
No. I mention the fabric and batting cutting requirements at about the 2:15 mark in the video. The fabric cuts are also included in the video description: ✂️ SUPPLIES NEEDED (2) 10-1/2" squares of cotton fabric (2) 10" squares of cotton batting cotton thread (also use cotton thread in bobbin)
Can you tell me which walking foot fits this machine? I’m having a difficult time finding it.
This machine uses the Acufeed foot. Here's a link to the foot from the Janome website: www.janome.com/accessories/sewing-machine-feet/dual-feed-foot/ And you can see a list of all the related accessories on this page: www.janome.com/machines/sewing/mc8200qcp-1/ I hope this helps!!

My memory craft 6650 does not have a hole to insert the quilting guide bar cannot figure out how to get it attached to the quilting foot
I’m not familiar with the 6650. But the guide bar is supposed to work with the 7650, according to the Janome website. I believe you have to use it with the walking foot. On the 8200, it uses the AcuFeed foot.
Should zi use zig zag needle plate for all but straight stitches.
Yes! That’s a great way to think about it!
I have had numerous problems with loose bobbin thread. This is the first machine I have ever had that doesn't have any thread guides to hold the tension from the left of the machine all the way across. So, to me, it seems lax and not tight.
The only issue I have had with my bobbin is with winding thread into the bobbin. But after I learned that you have to rotate the bobbin on the spindle until it clicks, I have not had any issues with my bobbin.
I am never really sure on the position of the bobbin to place into the bobbin case either. I don't think it is the same way coming off the machine Bobbin winder, is it?
Actually, it is the same. Although the bobbin is wound clockwise. The thread comes off the bobbin counter-clockwise. So, you insert the bobbin so that the thread is coming off the bobbin on the left.
Too slow
Thanks for the feedback. These tutorials are intended for beginners. Feel free to fast-forward anytime! I’ve also created a second video tutorial that has better camera angle. What are cutting dimensions please?
You can find all the written instructions, along with the fabric cuts here: hookedonsewing.com/sew-composition-notebook-journal-cover/ Below are the materials cut list: k Cut: Exterior Fabric: (4)-5-1/2"W x 11"H ** Spine Fabric: (1) 6"W x 11"H Lining Fabric: (1) 16"W x 11"H Button Loop: (1) 6"W x 1-1/2"H Fusible Fleece: (1) 15"W x 10-1/2"H *** Fusible Fleece: (2) 5"W x 10-1/2"H *** Elastic: 3" ** If you are not using a contrasting fabric for the spine, you can cut one piece of exterior fabric that measures 26-1/2"W x 11"H. *** If you are using cork or leather fabric for the spine, you will not apply fusible fleece to the spine section or quilt the spine section. In this case, you will need (4) 5"W x 10-1/2"H pieces (2 for the exterior front and back and 2 for the interior sleeves).
Hi! Im watching your video right now on my tv screen and I have a question . Does it matter if the fabric is right side up during marking the x?
I usually mark on the right side of the fabric because that is where I want my topstitching.
What fusible fleece would you recommend? Love the tutorial.
I like the Pellon 987F.
Thank you
You are so welcome!!
Absolutely love this casserole dish cozy. Made one for my sister.
