How to Get a Vintage Brass Locomotive Running Like New

pretty cool 😀
QUE BONITA, CUANDO TODAVÍA PERTENECÍA A MEXICO. 🥰👏😅🧡🩵💙🩷💚💛
Wow. Great job. I just started on this.
Hey….did anybody use the ridiculous wire/rope that came with the model? If not, what did you use?
@@1267cando for this build I used Modelkasten fine rigging wire. Here’s a link to a video I made on this stuff and how I used it: m.ua-cam.com/video/q6l-E4dx7c0/v-deo.html
That looks so good🎉
You know what else is massive?
Fun fact: back in the day this engine flew off the side of a mountain called lizard head.
Yellowstone baby 💪🏽🙌🏽😎
This locomotive is the Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range 227, a 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone type locomotive. It has a similar wheel arrangement to the more famous Union Pacific Big Boy but is not in fact a Big Boy itself.
@@historicalmodeler1483 nope it’s not the Big Boy, it’s actually better than the Big Boy (no disrespect to the big boy)
This is called the Union Pacific big boy 4014 it is one of the largest trains in the world but it’s other name in the 8-4-4-8 witch stands for how Manet wheels there are
This is the Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range 227, a 2-8-8-4 type locomotive
I was wondering on your thoughts about not using a primer before primary coloring, specifically wrt Tamiya XF paints.
These paints adhered quite nicely to the plastic without the use of primer; however, if I were painting a brass model or had to do more extensive masking, primer is definitely a good idea
@ Thank you. I’m in process of building a 1/350 USS Missouri., using thinned Tamiya paints/airbrush. I primed & painted the hull/deck and I am starting on the upper structure with its numerous small parts, many of which seemed I could skip priming. Much photo etch too that probably should be primed.
Why is it shaking around? That's unrealistic!
So what
Big Boy
Nope. Yellowstone 2-8-8-4.
Eine Steht im Ford Museum auch wenn sie Kalt ist echt beeindruckend.
Will you PLEASE tell me where you acquire your track 😭🙏
@@QueenMaryStan I got it from the Walthers model railroading website! www.walthers.com/code-70-narrow-gauge-hon3-nonweathered-flex-track-tm-3-sections-pkg-6-nonweathered-3-sections-pkg-6?srsltid=AfmBOoqDhDtqBGIIflYDlTEkj40zda5qaSM9d1WrLD3HiFYx-IS6tpk4ezI&gQT=3
Very beautiful model. I see that you also omitted the mast ratlines and funnel ladders. I did the same thing when I built mine thirteen years ago.
We Saw that engine Lovely display the biggest thing that got me was the 4-4-0 when You enter the Building.
Wheel slip need sand😮
It’s a full size non working museum piece that’s been animated with hidden motors. Nice to see but not a patch on a real steamer.
Yeh, kinda lame
It is a real locomotive lol what are you talking about? Its just deactivated
@@TattooedTraveler Relax, fully restoring it would be 100x more expensive if not more, I'm certain they don't have the money for that. It's either this or pure static display.
Is this a real engine, or a mock-partial body & workings? one of these is a really bad thing and my inner fireman us really irate about such use of a dead thing.
The engine is a real Yellowstone type from the Duluth, Missabe, and Iron Range Railroad. It’s on display at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum. It’s sadly not operational, the museum just has some kind of electrical system to make the wheels turn.
Allegheny?
Yellowstone.
Sicuramente e la BIG BOY
It’s not the big boy
Titanic sinking but alternate Happy new year 2025
Excellent. Thank you for making this video.
"THE BIG BOY"... 130+ FT LONG OVER 1 MILLION POUNDS....BUILT BY THE... "AMERICAN LOCOMOTIVE COMPANY" (ALCO) 1941... # 4000- 4019... THESE MONSTER ARE AWESOME!!!...
It's not the bigboy 🤦♂️
Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range 227, a 2-8-8-4 type locomotive
This video fewels counter intuitive to an older chap such as myself. The motor that you removed though an open frame appears to be a five pole motor which in the eighties was sold under the Anchoridge brand though made in Japan. It was commonly used in British kit built locomotives of either etched brass or white metal. I used two myself. The did tend to runa t higher revs than five pole can motors but is does feel odd that you have used a three pole motor as a replacement. I now await an avalanche of responses as to how great three pole motors are in contradiction of that which I have learned thirty years ago-.
@@532bluepeter1 part of the reason I got a 3 pole motor was so I would have more space inside the boiler. The model’s boiler sits too high on the frame compared to the prototype, so I needed a smaller motor that would allow me to lower the boiler for a more accurate appearance.
Brass tarnishes with age. Old brass does not look like new brass.
16 chuffs a rev
There should only be 8... 😢
That's a simulation in a museum!!!!!
It's a class 4000 Big Boy.

Looks like one of the union pacifics 4884 or something
@blueage102 how
@@jamesm6638 whoops my bad it just does
Wonder how worn the bearings are
The original bearings on the axles were Timpkin bearings, and were made of steel. If a bearing goes out, you would have to machine a new one, since they are 65 years out of stock.
@ I understand but since thoes are still spinning I’ll give it not very fast do you think they still gresase the bearings
@@scr2392 I think they do grease the bearings with a grease gun.
Slip test
So nice
Now thats cool!
And to think that when Northern Pacific got their original order of 4-8-8-2 Yellowstones in the mid to late 1920's, they were the world's largest. Sad to say, none were preserved.
Der Sound passt nicht. Lasst es!😢
Der Sound war ein Teil der Ausstellung, aber Sie haben recht
