Revell Big Boy Locomotive Model: Full Build and Review
The Union Pacific Big Boys were constructed during the Second World War and were designed to haul long trains over the Wasatch Range unassisted. They are among the largest and most powerful steam locomotives ever built, with a 4-8-8-4 wheel arrangement.
Several Big Boy locomotives have survived into preservation, while number 4014 is operational.
Revell's 1:87 model kit can be built to depict 4006 or 4023. Although a relatively basic build that lacks some detail, this model truly captures the look of the Big Boys and can be painted and weathered to achieve rather realistic results.
Paints used:
Tamiya XF-69 Nato Black
Tamiya XF-53 Neutral Grey
Tamiya XF-2 Flat White
Tamiya XF-16 Flat Aluminum
Tamiya X-12 Gold Leaf
Tamiya XF-17 Dark Green
Tamiya X-7 Red
Tamiya X-20A Acrylic Thinner
AK110033 Aluminum Weathering Pencil
Airbrush: imyyds Airbrush Kit

Oh my God
It looks ugly but inside it's beautiful, very beautiful❤❤❤
Parece feio mas por dentro é bonito muito bonito 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Wish i had that😢
AWESOME!!!!! Keep up the good work.
A great layout and very nice train operation. I like this K27 and your train. Greetings
This kit was originally released in the 1980s by Monogram as a “Snap-Tite” kit. They did a Union Pacific version, and also (with very minor detail variations) they offered fictional B&O and DM&IR versions. In real life both the DM&IR and the B&O had 2-8-8-4 types, but only the UP had the 4-8-8-4 “Big Boy” type. Monogram also produced a Snap-Tite New York Central 4-6-4 Hudson a few years earlier, also with fictional variants lettered for the Santa Fe and the Chessie Steam Special. The Santa Fe had 4-6-4s in reality, but the model was clearly a NYC locomotive. The real Chessie Steam Special was pulled by a Reading T-1 4-8-4.
Ahh that makes sense that it was released originally as a snap-tite kit
Hermosa maqueta linda locomotora
Great job. I will always treasure the memories of our drives from Denver to Michigan and Wisconsin, and the appreciation you built in me for the Big Boy.
AWESOME!!!!! Keep up the good work.
Idk man, seems sweet but as a european modeler. I think some of the new marklin stuff might give it a run for its money
Beautiful locomotive!😢
I want to put together a Titanic model in a similar way you did. This video, along with your video on what rigging to use when building the model are very helpful. With that said, could you make another video in which you provide tips on creating a model like this? Such as tips when using the Flyhawk kit and putting the model together? That would be amazing and such a help. Thank you!

Nice Job on the layout
Wow thanks for this!!! I am building the Academy 1/350 Titanic, purchased in 1988 or so. I stopped when the kids arrived and now retired started up again. How did you do your decks? Was it the new version of this model ? Or did you use a technique ...? Thanks, Art
@@artm7171 Hello! This is actually the 1:400 Academy model but I used the stand from an old 1:350 kit that I had. The decks were from an enhancement kit for the 1:400 model by Flyhawk, but there are definitely wood decks that you can get for the 1:350 kit too. Below is a link to one of the options. You basically just cut out the deck and glue it over the plastic. www.ebay.com/itm/314468186169?chn=ps&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1f5BaqcKaSrmMThB60BjTyg64&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=314468186169&targetid=1583904486362&device=m&mktype=pla&googleloc=9028740&poi=&campaignid=21214277413&mkgroupid=162743717513&rlsatarget=pla-1583904486362&abcId=9407520&merchantid=420514550&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD_QDh_rD4JqxGRoL_Rk0uWLksrQY&gclid=Cj0KCQjw7ZO0BhDYARIsAFttkChEbIAiNH2QNA2uTyAuBi6CtcTzT6dyzgJRYNMInYp14fJS7gqu8TgaAjcxEALw_wcB

Wow❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wow! That is tight!
Fantastic work createing a stunningly realistic layout! That is one to be proud of!
I'm too old to have done this with the models that were made to sink. I had to use a 1:350th and hold on to to it throughout the entire sinking if I wanted it to sink right. Left to it's own devices, the 1/350 would capsize & slowly sink sideways, and who wants that?! 🤣 I suppose I could have added weights, compartments and whatnot while building the 1/350 to make it float & sink correctly, but I was a lazy kid, and had no ingenuity.
You guys want to experience your childhood again, I just want to see what it was like myself
Why am I the only one with JUST the bow?
I wish I could help find an answer for you, but sadly I have no idea what the fuck you're talking about.
@@TfearWasHereI think he means he only has the bow section of the submersible model
I do have it, minus the stern and funnels

the good old days with that model, good times btw new subscriber here
Definitely a super nostalgic model! Thank you for watching and welcome aboard!
How did you recreate the detail on the two forecastle cleats at minute 1:00? I don't know if I can explain myself😬 They are not included in the Flyhawk photoetch
I think you’re referring to the bollards- they have oval bases with 2 pegs on them and are black. These were constructed from parts F18 on the Flyhawk kit and the tiny brass posts that are in a small plastic bag. They have to be built and don’t come preassembled in the kit. Hopefully this helps but let me know if you were referring to something else!
@@historicalmodeler1483 sorry for the late reply, I meant those 2 rings on the bollards, I think they are called Windlass
Loks great. Just a lil' nick pick you may build apon in the future, the different rock formations form photos I've seen appear to be a mix of the traditional gray basement rock, and pink granite. Just a lil' nick pick I swear! Just kiddin'. I aint gonna critique without giving you some resources 'cuz that'd be unfair, so here's mine: Myron Cook, a geologist that has a channel here. He goes into details bout the various rock formations encase you're interested. Also I'm now noticing how popular narrow gauge is becoming...must be something in the air...personally, I found myself to like the scenic vista's that 3ft gauge offers.
It's a fun trolly. City Park to Old Town. And you flip the seats when you reach the end of the track so you face the other way. <s>
You couldn't pick a sunshine filled day? You chose a rare overcast day?
Looks great! Just in the planning stage on my Hon3 Rio Grand Southern layout.
Interesting how that you only have one line and decide to use dcc I assume you want to use sound and other effects 😁👍
Yes the one functional HOn3 locomotive that I have has a lot of sounds that can be controlled with DCC, and it also runs more smoothly than on a DC setup.
Little narrow gauge very cool
Very well done! You sound like a young model railroader - are you?
Thank you so much! And I’m in my late 20’s!
@@historicalmodeler1483 Excellent! Most model railroaders that I know are in their 50's to 90's.😀
Looks great 👍 Attention to detail makes the difference.....
Lovely!
I can’t wait till blackstone comes back
Cool train
lovely build mate. A+
Nice video, Like!!!!!

Nice clip! 20 is running June 22 and 23.
Nice job!!
Wish our city had one…..
Absolutely excellent job there, making a short video like this showing the before and after really helps get that inspiration flowing.
So glad to hear that! Thanks for checking it out!
Great modelling, well done! I enjoyed your video presentation too! All the best Guy. ps I live in France, although I must have past close to the Georgetown Loop when I took the California Zephyr in 1995, so I have seen the countryside myself, it was splendid and beautifully represented in your model.
