Hi, I'm Chase, callsign KI5IRE. I am an Amateur Extra class ham radio operator from North Texas.
I created this UA-cam channel as a way to give back to the hobby of amateur radio and share things that I learn along my journey in amateur radio.
I like talk about the hobby of ham radio, make gear reviews and how-tos and from time to time, make vlogs.
I hope you'll subscribe to my channel and join me as I continue on my journey of learning more about amateur radio and sharing what I learn along the way.

Great video Chase great job 73
Thanks, Great Video, I will share this one on a few Ham Radio Facebook groups. 🙂
A whole 8 minute video just to tell everyone you’re single…
😊
Thanks for trying, But I wish you had recorded it and then posted, I have not seen a clear live stream yet from anyone :-(
Disagree… this is real, live, valuable. Thanks for doing it
Hi Colin, just uploaded the full vendor booth tour to the channel in 4K, without any of the buffering issues during the live stream. Thanks for watching, 73!
@@KI5IREhamradio Great, thank You.
You need a k4 to control the other k4... what a lost of money. Try a flex or anan device...
OK, that was a good review! This is definitely a backpackable mast. I've compared mine with my Spiderbeam 7 meter mast (which weighs a lot more) and I would say the flex is no more, and maybe a bit less, than the Spiderbeam. I'd much rather have this in my pack than having to carry my Spiderbeam mast. Very impressive! It's so funny, though, than none of the reviewers (or even GigaParts?) has a ruler. I've heard 14 inches, 16 inches, 17 inches, and 18 inches. (For some reason nobody I have heard has guessed 15 inches.) It's 17.5 with the end cap in place, by the way. And then weight -- even the supplied documentation says "less than a pound" and "1.1 pounds". 😁
I think it is from the UK as the way practice is spelled using an "s" where we use an "s". \
Mine shipped yesterday!
Congratulations From OZ1IOM Allan in Denmark
Congratulations
ew. Square wave.
Just a quick question, how to you submit your log to POTA? And is it difficult? Thanks again for a really good video. 73 W8RLP Roger
Oooooh. 30ft! Can’t wait.
I randomly clicked on this video cause oh neat another mast I might like, and realized wait a minute I have that exact same pack! Mine is foliage green. I've had it for a decade it still works. One of the zippers is a little weak at this point but it still gets regular use. They came down in price which is surprising. I had mine shipped to me from Amazon over to Taji when I was there. EDIT: Actually mine is a Maxpedition Malaga, and they have not come down in price... similar though, my mistake. EDIT one more again: Everyone in ham radio loves the Anderson power poles, I am the odd duck there, I guess. I use XT60 connectors.
Nice video. Hey... Do you think the 20ft carbon fiber works for a 40-10 EfWH in a sloper configuration or is is only tall enough for an inverted v? I have seriously been think of getting that one or waiting for the 30 ft to roll out. I really like the packable size. Thanks.
Yes the antenna works. Major quality control issues in construction.
Great video! Nice portable set up!!
Nice video. I love these videos that show portable kits. Well done.
Radio,Radio,Radio, what radio are you using. With that size of battery I expect at least a Yaesu ft891
Okay. I am convinced that I must get this mast. Thanks.
Nice video.
I quite literally have the same setup. Mostly anyway. Love my Apollo, and love my X6100. I am still waiting on my POTA20 though. Ordered it the morning of release at HamVention and still have not recieved it. I love the shack in the box type radios though. I switched to the FX-4CR and a K6ARK 20W for my hiking setup. It is almost a one pound POTA contender, but the FX-4CR is a beefy little radio.
I am still trying to get one of those new masts. I bought a 20' fishing pole/mast, but it is not very strong. Thanks for showing us your go kit. 73s
Nice setup but doing a quick search I think I'd avoid that radio like the plague.
Like to see more about that spike.
Let's not put on the cheesy, or any music next time.
check out K4QCD dually antenna
good vid
Pretty complete kit! You have pretty much everything you'd need to do an activation. That being said............come to the dark side with us CW nuts, and you can make literally EVERYTHING for the activation (and I mean everything) in a Pelican 1060. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I like to carry a bigger, higher output all mode radio.....but if I'm carrying it in any distance, it's probably a Mountain Topper or other similar CW only QRP rig. If you do decide to learn Morse Code, we'd love to have you at the Long Island CW club (shameless plug lol).
That set up is enormous, KX2 or Mountain topper/ QCX & wire does the job!!
Enjoyed your video, Dave W7DGJ, Columnist QRZ "Trials and Errors"
Taking my Extra test Saturday. Have taken roughly 20 practice tests and passed them all. Averaging in the 90s now. :)
Super super..lol
I'm very impressed with how compact all your stuff is! I'm mainly a SOTA operator and have been considering how to get down the weight and size of my pack. Thanks and 73 de M7OPK!
73s
Great setup, might through in a small first aid kit, snacks, and water in that empty front pouch.
The ham radio adventure guy spike goes great with it
Very good I hope I do that good when I start
Having problems exporting the adi.file? File won’t attach. Any suggestions?
If Gigaparts STOP giving them to you tubers and fulfill their orders from the get go I'd love to leave a Positive comment!! I ordered mine back in early May and still haven't received it!! When contacting them they "Don't know when they will be getting them in stock" They sure as hell took my money and deposited in their account already though!
GigaParts did not give this mast to me because I make UA-cam videos. I purchased this mast at Dayton. I have no affiliation with GigaParts. The first batch available for preorder in May wasn’t supposed to ship for 4-8 weeks. The second batch they are taking orders for now doesn’t ship until September. It’s a new product. For all we know, they may be tweaking the design to make sure that you’re getting the best product that they can produce before this next batch. This happens with new products from other vendors as well.
The fastest way to loose a subscriber - politics. Don't care which "side". Don't want that toxic sewage in my feeds.
So going for my extra less than six months after getting my technician then general class ticket, without even owning a set up rig is amazing? KK7TDS.
Glad you're enjoying the mast!
@hamradiotube: Mike I hope the next project you collaborate with them they have it in stock before you review it so they can fulfill "customer" orders. I am really looking forward to the mast and pota activations with it.
Thanks Mike! Loving the mast so far!
@@TheTdub Apparently, one must be a UA-camr to actually receive this mast... (if you weren't one of the 25 people that bought them at Hamvention). :) I placed an order May 20 (estimated 6 week lead time back then) and no joy so far...
That’s a cool mast. I would like to see a 23-25 foot model.
Are they shipping those that were preordered in may yet or did you get yours ahead of time for review?
I bought mine in person at Dayton, they only brought 25 total for the show, and I was miraculously able to purchased what I believe was the last one. At last check, the GigaParts website shows that orders placed today will ship in September. I am not sure if this is the first production batch or not. Here's the link to the GigaParts website (non-affiliate): www.gigaparts.com/explorer-pota20-portable-handheld-20-ft-telescopic-carbon-fiber-mast.html
Nice mast dannng it would fit in a backpack
Sweet mast !
That’s cool great idea 💡 I love to order one
Can you do a quick video on charging the battery and if the charger is included?
I already ordered the 20, but would like to order and get the 30, jeje , big expectations, saludos
When I use RT Systems on my UV MD380 to program Echotest TG 9998 Pvt, it does not show up in the Received Groups list. If I use TG 9999 as a Group call, it will show up on the Received Groups list. Also, the amount of channels in each zone is cut down to 16 for UHF and 16 for VHF which only gives 32 Total, compared to the maximum of 64 (32 UHF and 32 VHF) channels when using the original CPS which I do Not use anymore.
