Being born in 1984, I go through my teenage years from 1993 to 2001 and focus on some bands and albums that were gateways into more underground tastes as my years advanced. Would love to see your own similar journeys! If you have a channel, feel free to...

Man that Saor single ‘amidst’ rips, it’s so epic. I believe you and Questy plugged me into Saor so thank you for the rec. I think BLACKBRAID is coming with a new one. Also looking forward to hear Grima’s new one in Feb. And im hoping Wiegedood pumps out more material for 2025. Happy new year and cheers 🍻
It's so interesting to look back on these winding roads of music discovery. We're about the same age so your path is very relatable. One day I'd love to make a detailed timeline, but here's a simplified: Pre-1996 - more or less only radio. Recorded a lot of stuff (I wonder where those tapes went) 1996 - Bad Religion - All Ages: the first album I bought. Got me into a few years of punk rock 1997 - Metallica: First through the Load/Reload albums, but it wasn't long until I looked up the earlier stuff 1998 - Iron Maiden: Just a few songs here and there (mp3s were coming around) but the year after I picked up the Ed Hunter compilation. I wasn't going fully metal yet, I remember buying Britney Spears singles and whatnot lol 1999 - Hammerfall - Glory To The Brave, and Legacy Of Kings (Heeding The Call was a wow moment) 2000 - Metallica - Ride The Lightning: This has to be where my extreme metal journey began, the way more aggressive style compared to all I'd heard before 2001 - Helloween - Keeper Of The Seven Keys 1+2, Judas Priest - Painkiller: Getting there... 2002 - Rhapsody: Epic, bombastic, melodic... This is where I turned into a power metal nerd! In 2001-2002 I also recall hearing some In Flames (Clayman) and Dimmu Borgir. EDT was important, but the album that really got me into black metal was Windir - Arntor (it's still one of the most intense and emotional albums that I know) Bonus plot twist: during the pandemic, I started exploring 80s music and found that I really enjoy AOR and hard rock
Cheers! thanks for sharing...I always love to hear these journeys. Looks like we had a somewhat similar path
I don't need anyone else but you
Blood Fire Death and Twilight of the Gods are my 2 favorite Bathory Albums!
5 Best Eps of 2024 King810 - Under the black rainbow Disembodied Tyrant - The poetic edda Mirar - Mare The Hate Project - May death come quickly The Plot In You - Vol.3 20 of the best albums of the year The Browning - Omni Darko US - Starfire Allt - From the new world Assemble The Chariots - Unyielding night A Wake In Providence - I Write to you… Worm Sheperd - Hunger Consvmer - Seelenfrieden 156/Silence - People watching thrown - Excessive guilt Drown In Sulphur - Dark secrets of the soul Opeth - The last will and testament The Archaic Epidemic - Death Crawl Grayscale Season - feel something new Oranssi Pazuzu - Muuntautuja Gaerea - Coma Dödsrit - Nocturnal will Floya - Yume Powerflo - Gorilla warfare Saltwound - The temptation of pain Kingcrow - Hopium😊
Cheers! Thanks for sharing your picks. A handful there that I haven't heard, so you have given me some exploring to do!
I've been looking forward to these videos for months!
Looking forward to Havukruunu and I hope for a New summoning or Moonsoorow release so much too. Have a great start in the new year 🍻💪
KAWÎR album pronunciation is KIDIMOS It is a Ancient Greek word kydōimos (κυδοιμός), meaning "noise, commotion of battle, uproar," Thank you for your llist
Cheers, and thanks! I knew I was probably not saying that correctly
Great list. My top 75 of the year: ua-cam.com/video/djVj1oVzAcM/v-deo.html

The self titled album of Stratovarius is their best for me! Their worst is "Visions", generic boring european power metal..

Hello. Do check BURDEN CALLED GOD!!!
1316KILLERS 2@D COUSIN...
CUED...
I've just seen a post on FB from Eternal Champion confirming they are in the studio, so hopefully we'll have a new album from them in 2025 too
Awesome news!
My brother introduced me to Metallica's "Black" album when I was around 13. Before that I had mainly been listening to radiofriendly Punk Rock. I eventually checked out AC/DC and Megadeth. And that kicked it all off for me. When I was 14 I came across Awake by Dream Theater, followed by Glory To the Brave by Hammerfall and Whoracle by In Flames. My life would never be the same after that... the Nuclear Blast mailorder catalogue completely opened the flood gates for me 🤘
Just saw Season of Mist's list of new releases for next year on facebook and saw some great news already when it comes to black metal: Rotting Christ (but i think it's a live album), Gaahls Wyrd, Drudkh, Der weg einer Freiheit, Keep of Kalessin, Enthroned, And Oceans. On another note, but worth mentioning as well, they have Heilung and Cryptopsy as well. With that said, i wanted to say thank you for your content! As a fellow black metalhead for a long time now, i have been following you for like 1 year and a half, and have been finding a lot of new black metal and some other stuff from other genres to enjoy every month! So cheers from Portugal, hope you have a nice Christmas, and wishing you a happy new 2025! May some, or even all, of those uncertain albuns happen ahah. I'd be pretty stoked for Moonsorrow, Stormruler, Mare Cognitum and Summoning, even if they are just wishful thinking! 😅 The band i want the most to release another album at the moment is Stormkeep, I'd pay to get another opus from them. 🙏 PS: i noticed on your videos that you might not have checked this album that came out this year, but it's Autumnfall with The Archaic Shadows. Top 3 black metal albums of the year for me, a big gem. Melodic Black Metal from Finland to be precise, Finns never disappoint and those melodies are soaring!
Cheers dude! Appreciate that! Oh I would be so stoked for new Stormkeep too! And thanks for the recommendation of Autumnfall. Not familiar with them, but sounds like it would be something I will definitely enjoy!
Confirmed: Majestica, Saor (it should be one of the highlights of 2025), Vermilia (found her through a random YT suggestion, I'm super intrigued) Should: Ancient Bards (recording should be more or less done), Fairyland, Vintersorg Unlikely: Caladan Brood, Moonsorrow, Summoning
I forgot Vintersorg is most likely releasing new stuff next year. Can't wait!
Hi! I'm looking forward for the new Pestilence album, what they have teased on social media sounds great. Also King Diamond and Helloween; I think Anthrax could release something soon too. And regarding your last section, I would say Hate Forest; they released a great EP this year, so maybe they will launch a new album in 2025! Best regards!
Cheers! would be nice if we get all of those!
Man, Saor I'm really pumped for too! Also looking forward to the new Harakiri for the Sky (fellow countrymen of mine) and the new Sarcator, both to be released in January. And I'm hoping for new releases from Hyperion, Raunchy and Cân Bardd 🤞
I would love if there is new Can Bardd this year!
can't wait for new Mgla and Agalloch (although haven't heard anything by them announcing)
I'm hoping for a new one by EVIL INVADERS. Their '22 album, Shattering Reflections, was so damn good. Also, fingers crossed for the new ANTHRAX in '25.
Would love new Evil Invaders. I heard they might be touring North America next year so really hoping they come somewhere close to me
Really hoping Atlantean Kodex will release a new album.
I hope!
Hi, I've made this heavy load shirt :)
The new Wardruna album in January! (Not metal, Nordic Pagan Ambient)
I have really enjoyed the first few singles, definitely gonna be a great album! Looking forward to that one too
Definitely looking forward to the new Helloween. On the power metal front i'm also looking forward to new Labyrinth and Avantasia.
Saw King Diamond live earlier this month and he was great so an album would be phenomenal. Love Havukruunu, Testament, and Stomrruler so 2025 could be killer. Wishing for new albums from In Mourning, Mors Principium Est, and Agalloch.
I would kill for new Agalloch! haha
I hope Enthroned has a new album next year!
Announced, but not given a date, though somewhat likely to arrive next year: * Diabolus, mecum semperterne! Every year their label, Terratur Possesions, put out a sampler of stuff they'll release sometime in the future, and in the 2024 sampler (from early in the year) a rough mix of a 11 minute song from this new mysterious band/project caught my attention immediately. The monk-ish chanting, the raw sounding guitars.. ah, thei just give me chills. I don't know who's in the band, but I saw a Facebook comment stating that the singer from Vemod/Mare/Djevel is in it, and it makes perfect sense when listening to (the quality of) the song. I can't fucking wait to hear more, and hopefully it'll be in 2025. * Lik (the Swedish death metal band) I believe they've been in the studio this year. They're my favorite current death metal band, and if this is as good as the first 3 records, then it'll be high on next years AOTY list. Watching them live for the first time in the autumn next year. Can't wait. * Keep of Kalessin Apparently they're releasing a new one this year. The last one was superb, so I'll gladly take another one. * Thorns It's really close to being finished. As far as I know, just a couple of vocal tracks are missing. It's taken 20 years though, so it wouldn't surprise me if we'll have to wait even longer. * Dimmu Borgir They've been working on a new album for quite a while, but knowing them I wouldn't be surprised if they'll make us wait for another full year. I don't really like their last two, so I won't get my hopes up. But another album from them is always exciting, if they can just recapture some former magic. * Drudkh Always excited to hear more from mr. Hate Forest. Confirmed 2025 release. * Grima New album will be released on february 28th according to metal encyclopedia. The last one was fantastic. Not announced, but I still think it might happen: * Enslaved They're usually quite productive, and since they haven't really been doing much this year (in public), I'd be borderline shocked if they haven't been working tirelessly on a new album. * Blind Guardian I know, slowest band on earth, but I hope their last masterpiece gave them wind in the sails and that it means we'll get a new album three years after the previous one, instead of seven years after. * Vreid Like Enslaved, Vreid tend to be quite regular with their output. They haven't been doing much this year either, so I'm sure they're working on new material. * Rammstein They've been quite effective lately, with three years between their previous two albums. Next year there's been another three year, so let's hope. They still put out pure quality in my opinion. * Slagmaur Apparently they had two albums ready before covid, and they still haven't released more than two songs on streaming. * Pagan's Mind They've reunited, and it'd surprise me if they aren't working on something new. Watching them in february. Woho! Honestly, I was hoping to find more upcoming releases, when I started digging. I guess if this is it, then I'll have to start checking out new bands again hahah. I'm excited for some of your mentions as well, like Ereb Altor, Havukruunu, Testament, King Diamond. New stuff from Moonsorrow and Mare Cognitum would be incredible as well. Most of the other bands you mentioned I'll have to check out eventually. Edit: Oh, I believe Dark Sonority is somewhat close to releasing a new album as well. That I find very exciting indeed.
Would love if many of those happened next year! That first one definitely sounds interesting, have not heard of that project. I didnt even hear that Drudkh had a confirmed 2025 release, thats always great news!
@@HammerheartMetalReviews Drudkh was confirmed on the latest Season of Mist instagram post, together with a bunch of other bands!
new Mayhem confimed by bassist
Avulsed, Ex Deo, King Diamond, Mare Cognitum, Summoning :)
Uuh, those Attic, Sig:Ar:Tyr, Triumpher, Horn and Dödsrit albums will certainly be highest priority for me to check out :D Several familiar names on your list, hehe 🙂 and lot of homework for me, as usual. Stellar list. MY TOP 25 picks: 25. CRYPT SERMON - The Stygian Rose / No wonder everybody likes this. Prime heavy metal. Every subsequent listen is better and better. 24. IRON CURTAIN - Savage Dawn / Exciter's heirs. Blasting fun early 80's heavy/speed metal. Raw sound, great riffs and vocals, blazing solos! Love it! 23. OPETH - The Last Will and Testament / Too low? Yeah, this was tough for me. I love listening to the whole album, but individual songs haven't yet cleared out in my head. For now. 22. FROSTBITTEN THORNS - Mysteries of the Night / Technically it's only EP, but I had to include it here, one of my favorite Black metal releases of the year. Atmospheric, melodic, melancholic, with beautiful addition of folky acoustic parts. 21. ROMUVOUS - Spirits / Majestic folk metal album, somewhere between Wardruna and Ensiferum. So atmospheric and atmospheric! Love it! 20. GOAT MAJOR - Ritual / Holly molly, what an evil sound! Impressive debut album from these occult doom/stoner guys. Catchy and menacing sounding album! 19. PHAËTHON - Wielder of the Steel / Holly smokes, this album rips! Very similar to Heavy Load, but much more intense and better produced. Epic heavy metal in a nutshell. 18. KRYPTOS - Decimator / Man I love raw speed metal of the early 80's. These guys deliver! 17. GRAND MAGUS - Sunraven / They simply can not miss. Yet another great heavy/doom metal album. Riffing is so dense, always bopping my head. Soulful solos, great deep vocals. 16. TRAVELER - Prequel to Madness / Fans of early Iron Maiden, early Helloween, Angel Witch etc... will be most thrilled with this release. Powerful vocals, great riffing and blazing solos. 15. SPECTRAL WOUND - Songs of Blood and Mire / Classic old school Black Metal at its finest, I enjoy it a lot. One of my favorites black metal albums of the year. 14. HEXEREI - Nihil I Celandum / Fantastic 70's psychedelic / hard rock, lots of fuzz, beefy riffing and tasty solos. Great vocals too. One can easily imagine these guys opening for Hendrix back in a day. 13. SAVAGED - Night Stealer / For the fans of old school 80's heavy/speed metal and vocals of King Diamond, this album is pure gold! Awesome! 12. WHITE DOG - Double Dog Dare / Mesmerizing old school bluesy/hard rock with progressive edge. Warm and enjoyable album. 11. BLUES PILLS - Birthday / Stellar Blues Rock release, as expected from this band. This time however, with welcome touch of commerciality. Hope this album will turn wider audience to them. 10. SAXON - Hell, Fire and Damnation / We can always bet on these veterans to deliver beefy, juicy riff fest. This album is no exception. Heavy Metal treat. 09. MONKEY3 - Welcome to the Machine / Instrumental psychedelic space rock. Beautiful, adventurous album, so easy to lose oneself in the atmosphere and melodies. 08. TAROT - Glimpse of the Dawn / A killer album! Top to bottom classic! Gorgeous songs, 70's hard&heavy with progressive flavor. This might be perfect introductory album for people not experienced with 70's heavy rock. 07. CAUSA SUI - From the Source / Gorgeous album! Adventurous, wandering atmosphere, fat and heavy bass, gorgeous keys and guitars. Phenomenal mix of psychedelic rock, space rock and jazz fusion. 06. DOLMEN GATE - Gateways of Eternity / Epic heavy metal at full display! Fantastic album! 05. HAZEHOUND - Macrodose / Absolutely delightful old school blues rock / hard rock album! Sounds like a great mixture of Jimi Hendrix, Bachman-Turner Overdrive and Uriah Heep 04. GJENFERD - Gjenferd / Amazing album! Treat for any fan of 70's hard rock legends Uriah Heep, Deep Purple etc. 03. ASTRAL DOORS - End of it All / Always subscribed to my list, these guys deliver yet another great heavy metal album with superb riffing, guitar solos and ever majestic vocals from Mr. Nils Patrik Johansson. 02. ALUNAH - Fever Dream / One of my most anticipated albums of the year and it is a killer! Tasty solos, beefy riffing, catchy songs and outstanding vocals! 01. LUCIFER - LUCIFER V / These guys never fail. Yet another extraordinary Catchy 70's sounding hard rock album. A must listen. Another year over, damn 😀 Hell of a journey chasing these albums. Hopefully next year will be even better, and hopefully there will be more time to listen to new music :) Happy Holidays man! Cheers!
Cheers and happy holidays to you too man! Once again, great picks! That Phaethon album was really cool...one of the guys from Fen I believe. Really enjoyed Dolmen Gate too. There are a few here I definitely need to check out as well, just simply based on your descriptions!
@@HammerheartMetalReviews Have a good one man, I don't doubt that I will with some of your picks. Once again happy holidays, recharge your batteries, have fun and see ya again in 2025! Cheers!
Allright, here we go, finally 😀 HONORABLE MENTIONS (in no particular order): ANCIENT VVISDOM - Master of the Stone / Good, catchy occult hard rock. Great riffing, solos and atmosphere. BLITZKRIEG - Blitzkrieg / I can't believe I've never listened to this band before! Fantastic album! Good ol' heavy metal. BORKNAGAR - Fall / Everything I heard so far is great, and this release is no exception. After few more spins this album will easily rank much higher. CHAINSAW - Satan / Blackened heavy/speed metal, very much inspired by early works of Venom and Bathory, fun and headbanging album. FROSTBITTEN THORNS - Frostbitten Thorns / I love the feeling of freezing cold on this album. Excellent black metal album, though their EP from this year I love better :) MY TOP FAVORITE 50 - 26: 50. IAN BLURTON'S FUTURE NOW - Crimes of the City / Vintage epic heavy metal. Great riffing, tasty solos, anthemic choruses. 49. ALBION - Lakesongs of Elbid / Beautiful, soulful folk progressive rock, very much Jethro Tull alike, but with welcome additional element of heavy riffing from time to time. Excellent! 48. AKU - Solipsism / Fine mix of classic rock elements with jazz fusion. 47. AARDVARK - Tough Love / Excellent traditional heavy metal album. Beefy and blistering guitar work. Got that "fist in the air" vibe, perfect for live performances. 46. RUTHLESS - The Fallen / Intense heavy / speed metal, old school headbanging release. 45. INVERTED CROSS - Eternal Flames of Hell / Excellent album in the spirit of first wave of black metal. Raw, relentless and fun! 44. JACKALHEAD - Dream Weaver / Excellent heavy/power metal with slight touch of doom. Heavy, beefy riffing, tasty solos and phenomenal vocals! 43. HEAVY TEMPLE - Garden of Heathens / Fantastic Doom occult rock / metal. Lots of groove, heavy riffing and great vocals and solos. 42. EARLY MOODS - A Sinner's Past / Pure Candlemass, Witchfinder General, Pentagram, Trouble and Sabbath worship. Excellent album! 41. BIG SCENIC NOWHERE - Waydown / This is a treat for all fans of desert and stoner rock. And maybe even good gateway album for the styles in question. 40. VICTORY - Circle of Life / German hard rock veterans are back with great new album! Prime 80's sounding hard rock! 39. DUNGEON KEEPER - Chaos Sorcery Strike at Midnight / Raw, primal black metal. Sounds like "Morbid Tales" by Celtic Frost, but with Pest on vocals. 38. MORGUL BLADE - Heavy Metal Wraith / Fantastic melodies and riffing, cool harsh vocals, great album cover and sound, I love it! 37. BEWITCHER - Spell Shock / Blasting fun Black'n'Roll! I love it! 36. EMERGENCY RULE - The King of Ithaca / "Southern Metal" they call it. Fine by me. Super fun and catchy riffing, great vocals, good solos. Enjoy this a lot. 35. DEWOLFF - Muscle Shoals / Psychedelic southern rock gem. Previous album is bit heavier, and I like it bit better, but this one is not far behind. 34. INQUISITION - Veneration of Medieval Mysticism and Cosmological Violence / Prime black metal, as expected. Raw, fast, relentless and yet almost easily accessible. Excellent stuff. 33. INTERCEPTOR - Tales of Mayhem / Early first wave of Black Metal worship - approved! :-D 32. AMETHYST - Throw Down the Gauntlet / Yes! Give me them young bands playing late Cretaceous era heavy metal! Love this one! 31. ARMAGH - Exclamation Po!nt / This album is a blast! Excellent heavy metal, with some speed metal tendencies. Very vintage sounding. Great stuff. 30. BLACK CANDLE - Cloaked in Black / Hell yeah! Raw, catchy, riff packed heavy metal. Some black metal influences here as well, could be called Black'n'Roll album. 29. CASTLE - Evil Remains / Sinister sounding, occult doom rock/metal with hypnotizing vocals. So evil sounding, yet very catchy. 28. MEAN MISTREATER - Razor Wire / Blasting fun heavy metal, anthemic vocals and great riffing and solos. Everything we want from this style. 27. HELVETETS PORT - Warlords / Vintage heavy metal ai it's finest. Love it! 26. BLOOD INCANTATION - Absolute elsewhere / Split personality disorder? Identity crisis? Maybe! Absolute madness of an album.
Great picks! And as usual, quite a few that are new to me, so thanks for that! Always happy to get some new stuff to explore. I really like quite a few of those, even some that I didnt end up putting on my list. Such a great year for music!
@@HammerheartMetalReviews And let's give some credit to ourselves as well. With our passion and dedication, no way any year can go out with a whimper, haha! 😀
Awesome to see Belore on the list, I adore that album! Seven Spires kept growing, growing, and growing until it dethroned Belore from my #1 spot (though, it's more fair to have them share the top spot.) It's such a deep journey, and truly worth all the time I invested in it. I'll be picking up the Nahtrunar and Thornbridge albums for sure. Thanks for those!
Cheers! Glad you got a couple new albums to check out from this. Love Belore! And ya that Seven Spires album is so damn good! Probably the album I listened to the most this year.
I'm really looking forward to Patriarkh and The Great Old Ones.
I've not seen any official confirmation, but I'm really hoping and praying for a new album from Dead Congregation in 2025
saor is an automatic buy ... a windhand cd be great , a howling void ( wheres all the good funeral doom gone) and yes summoning , falkenbach and agalloch if im dreaming lol
ooohh new Falkenbach and Agalloch would pretty much make my year too haha! We can dream
Falkenbach for sure! Rivendell did return after nearly 20 years, so anything's possible
@@nightdrive89 yes i havent heard that yet , im not too sure where my original rivendell cd is now either lol
Looking forward to the new Helheim album. That’s the only one I can think of right now for 2025
Dude I can see why you had that Seven Spires up high at 3. That album is awesome. I only just got to it but wow - you can tell that band poured their heart and soul into that record.
Glad you liked it! I honestly was so close to putting it at #1. Definitely my most listened to album of the year, it just really hit me. So much emotion, and I love their songwriting approach. If you haven't listened to their earlier albums, would highly recommend the last 2 as well. Just as good! Quickly becoming one of my favorite modern bands. Cheers!
I'm looking forward to the new Dream Theater, Spiritbox, Killswitch Engage and Jinjer albums.
Can't wait for the new Defacing God album, loved the debut. Also hoping King Diamond finally releases
Denmark has great bands! I hope NORTT releases something
Alright, new stuff from Century! Didn't even know they had a second album coming out; I loved their last one.
Aree man. I waiting the new moonsorrow ages now. I hope Symphony X as well will put out an album next year
Mgła, Wardruna, Grima, Halo Effect, Jinjer. Mare Cognitum? yes, absolutely :)
Great stuff! Right now I have Century, Helms Deep, Running Wild, Ironsword, Visigoth, Stormruler, King Diamond, and Heavy Load albums as my most anticipated of 2025. Some of these have been mentioned by the bands but nothing from the labels yet so we shall see 🤘
Hope those all happen!
Lots to get excited about already. Have my fingers crossed for new Mare Cognitum 🤞 loved Solar Paroxysm
