I dont get much pleasure from the Cataract Dam given the appalling mass murder that occurred there in 1816. Probably the most evil event in Australia's history. Respects to the dead.

@redsword1659 I agree the Appin Massacre in 1816 was a truly shocking and tragic event in the area. There is a memorial at the dam site acknowledging what happened. Thanks for your comment.

It was where Ben Hall committed (arguably) Australia's first bank robbery. This he did by presenting an out of date cheque. When told it was out of date, he suggested they check out his gun first.

Yes, really terrible road. Pmatta - Dural - Wisemans Ferry - (all way along nothern river bank to Central Mangrove - back south (!) to Gosford) - Bucketty - Cessnock. Avoids especially unpleasant gorges, but anyway going up and down all hills. 3 day horse cart travel only to Gosford. When I will have especially nothing to do - 100% take my motorbike and make trip there. Of course GNR itself is not ridable, only Settlers-Wollombi, but generally the same. Absolutely feral hilly bushland, from above (small plane) I saw it many times, but never from ground. Thanks for the great idea.

Shale Oil was a smart idea during World War Two i.e. the Germans in Estonia during that time. They caught a ghost in the background on a music video out here apparently in the early 1990s. Enough to spook the garage band 'Doctors In The Theatre' filming at Prince Henry Hospital. Egon Spengler, Ray Stanz and Dr. Peter Venkman are on call.

We would often go there for family day out in the 60’s as kids. Such shame that the government won’t allow the public to walk on it anymore. A waste of time going there as you can no longer see the dam wall as well. Shame on the NSW government. Thing is there is still public access to the other dam walls around Sydney, why not Warragamba?

We make the trek to Adelaide at least annually to visit family, and Hay is a favourite spot to stay over night on the return trip. There is also a gluten free bakery, which is handy with a celiac in the family. On my last trip (just before Christmas 2024) my daughter and I stopped there for lunch, and made use of the excellent public bathroom (yes bathroom, not just toilets) at the visitor info centre just around the corner from the museum with the statues out front (showers are available for a $2 donation). The place is well worth a visit as a stop over or destination to explore. Thanks for the video. You deserve to have a lot more viewers.
