- 🚙🌳 DESTINATION: South Australia's most famous tree
📍 WHERE: Located within the boundaries of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park on the west side of the Flinders Ranges Way about 3 kilometres north-east of the Wilpena Pound Resort - Flinders Ranges, SA
❓WHY: To see the Cazneaux Tree, a river red gum made famous by an image taken by renown photographer Harold Cazneaux. You can see Cazneaux's extraordinary body of work in online digital collections of the National Library of Australia and the Art Gallery of NSW.
⌚ WHEN: Best time to visit the site is early in the morning when the surrounding range is illuminated. The colours are amazing.
👉 DIRECTIONS: Turn off the sealed Flinders Ranges way along a short gravel road to the parking area. There is a level and short gravel path down to the tree, with interpretive signs along the way.
🍴☕ FOOD and DRINK: There is a convenience store at IGA Wilpena Pound , or its about 50km to the town of Hawker.
⛽ FUEL: Wilpena Pound is the nearest place for fuel.
🛌STAYED: We were staying at Wilpenba Pound Resort, but there are options back in Hawker too.
