"Tuck Your Damn Elbow" As A Fundamental Technique To Transform Your Two Handed Bowling Game
There's no right or wrong in bowling. What works for others might not work for you. Results speak for themselves. However, in my observation, most good to great 2-handed bowlers have something in common that we can replicate to succeed. The “Tuck Your Damn Elbow” technique or TYDE for short is entirely my personal perspective. But I strongly believe that it can help transform many bowlers' games once and forever. This can be a long video but truly worth your time so you can bookmark it to watch later. Let's dive in.
🔹 What is The Tucked Elbow?
I've talked about this technique in other previous videos. And after a time of experimentation, I can conclude that this technique helps many bowlers optimize their ball roll by helping them stay more behind the ball during their release.
📌 Key Points:
00:39 What is the tucked elbow?
01:29 Tucking the Elbow In: This is not a natural arm position according to human arm anatomy, but it can be trained. It helps you stay more behind the ball in an easy way.
02:09 Elbow Position: Focus on the medial epicondyle (inside part of the elbow). Move it inward and keep it there during the swing.
03:21 Common Mistakes:
1. Untucking the elbow during the swing.
2. Turning the wrist to the left (for right-handed bowlers) while adopting the elbow-in technique.
3. Not opening your hips enough to create space for the tucked elbow to swing back.
🌟 06:01 Key Takeaways:
1. Keep your tucked elbow position from start to end.
2. Don’t pull the ball back into the swing or raise the ball up during the backswing.
3. Don't turn the wrist when you have already tucked the elbow.
4. Open your hips to create space for the tucked elbow to swing back.

    That foot work, I would not recommend, you are starting with closed hips, more movement to open your hips. Less is usually better for beginners.

      I do agree that the drift step is not easy for beginners. We can use pre-set alignment and do not need to drift left. Anyway, open hips is still a crucial component of 2 handed bowlers.

      This is also a common problem for bowlers with this kind of physique. Yes, the tummy makes your swing shorter, that's why you have to move quicker with your feet and stand closer to the foul line. Does the layout of the spare ball matter or can I just go with the standard 2LS#3 layout? I don’t exactly have my PAP or anything measured as I’m still figuring out my main game but I just wanted to get a spare ball.

    • @BowlismOutlaw
      @BowlismOutlaw 13 днів тому

      Layout does not affect spare ball much. If you use plastic ball, just drill with the pin at the center up or down to the finger holes.

    I'm wondering if I should also keep my arms completely relaxed and just let the ball swing like a pendulum as it comes down after the backswing?

    • @BowlismOutlaw
      @BowlismOutlaw 13 днів тому

      Good question though Lawren. "Completely relaxed" is a tricky word. We can not let the arm muscle 100% relax because you still need muscle to hold the ball during the swing. But it you can relax from 50% - 70%, it's already too good. We should say 2 handed bowlers have semi-relax arm swing.

    • @BowlismOutlaw

      The shoulder angle is defined when you stand and hold the ball. You don't need to intentionally open the shoulder more during the approach. Just open hips and keep the left arm quiet my friend.

Do you happen to have any sources you used that are about the biomechanics of two-handed bowling? Hi brother, I don't have any specific source but only google. If you use a bit of your time observing and feeling your bowling arm, you would ask yourself:"How does it truly work when releasing the bowling ball?" Is it okay if I keep it tucked against the side of my body as long as I maintain that position? trying to keep the elbow tucked in has always lead to me having inconsistency issues

    • @BowlismOutlaw
      @BowlismOutlaw 3 місяці тому

      My answer is OK. Not all bowlers use the tucked elbow technique. The tucked elbow technique helps place your hand more behind the ball to optimally release it. It's also a big component to create higher rev. It's just an option to implement, brother :D Sometimes, it's hard for you due to your unique physique (maybe), but don't worry, I still believe you can still bowl well if you don't use it. There're hundreds of way to achieve the goal of this game :D Enjoy!

    I'm 64 and started bowling about 7 months ago. I was having trouble getting revs with one hand and couldn't get my average above 154. I ran across your channel and watched most of your vidioes and decided to try two hands. My first two games were a 169 and a 177. I was pumped and striking a lot more. Now my average is around 170 and I'm told that's good for only 7 months of actual bowling. I found this video and I'm going to try your theories out. I really like your video's and how you present them in a kind of scientific way. Makes a lot a since to me! I'll keep you posted on my progress!! And keep pumping out those video's!!!

    Focusing more on the non-bowling hand seems to have helped me to mentally trust my grip on the ball, allowing me to swing back farther without fear of dropping the ball 👍 I feel lately I have hit a wall in terms of ball speed. I went to a Belmo event and its amazing to see him casually throwing 18-20mph with almost no walk up, and very little physical exertion. I struggle to throw more than 15-16mph off my hand and it takes a lot of effort. If you have time, I would love a video on the general overview of ball speed as a 2 hander, since I know many others struggle with the same thing

      Big topic on ball speed 👍 I’ll generate another video on this topic. Thank you for your contribution brother. Stay tuned!

    unfortunately, some people need to change their axis rotation due to their release causing the ball to roll over the finger holes. I am one of them so i need to change my wrist more left. but i do this on the down swing preventing my elbow from flaring out. Took a while to master but something that needed to be done

      Oh we are nearly the same brother. I'l also a high track player. Sometimes, the the ball rolls over the finger is due to the fact the the ball axis tilt is too low. But as long as you can get the best score, you can bowl your way.
