If you are looking to connect a DAC then that’s connected to the XBOX via optical or HDMI but not the controller. There are HDMI capable DACs that you can look into.

I believe you can load your own target curve and A1 Evo will calibrate to it. That’s what OCA mentioned in his video, at least.

Good question. Price is not everything my friend. Checkout the AUDIOSCIENCE Review of the Mytek Liberty and the Topping D70 Pro Sabre. Topping D70 is a recommended product and Mytek is not. Even my Pre Box S2 from Project was a Stereophile recommended Class A product at $499. Competed with DAC 10 times the price.

If you can move the rear surrounds to the sides below the side surrounds, then within the AVR select surround heights instead of surrounds, and side surrounds instead of rear surrounds then you will truly have the Auro 3D layout, 5.1.6 with front/rear heights and surround heights.

@@captainrizal67 Thanks for the question. That’s unfortunate. How many positions did you run Audyssey with? OCA does not recommend changing the distances and trims post Evo. I suggest running Audyssey again. Did you like the sound with Audyssey prior to running Evo?

@@Alaw_83 good question. DEQ should be left off. Evo gives you two curves. One with DEQ and one without. If you want to use DEQ then I suggest load the DEQ curve and then turn DEQ on.

It’s a great tool to have. Remember to note the updated speaker trims. If you are using the MultEQ app then you will need to update the trims in the MultEQ app and resend the data back to the Denon.

Thank you. I was originally going to buy the mini dsp but then the A1 Evo script came out by obsessive compulsive audiophile. That script has done a great job with time aligning the subs. I will still buy the mini dsp and try it out just because I like to try different technics and devices to get the most out of my equipment in terms of sound.

All the review equipment is in the description of this video. My projector is Epson 5040UB and my TV is 77” Sony A80J. The processor is Marantz AV8805A. Amps are McIntosh MC8207 for bed layer, Marantz MM7055 for 5 height speakers, and Russound P75 for one height speaker.

100% agree with your assessment.

A1 Evo measures and calibrates all the speakers. It uses the Audyssey calibrated file and reading and makes adjustments across the entire frequency spectrum for a better sound.

@@magnoliamo yeah but in eq section the target curve cutting in 250 hz... And also in multi eq app to curve editor i dont see eq after 250 hz for the rest speaker is just flat all the way... If maked calibration to the rest speaker i wouldn't see eq and to the highs.. ??? 🤔

@kuriakos36 Are you reviewing the target curve script and the Evo script? You should ask this question on AVSFORUM as well. I don’t see any cutoff. Also, the Evo script is completely customizable.

@@kuriakos36 Yes. First run Audyssey using the MultEQ app. Import the settings into Evo with REW open. Run the tool. You get 2 post Evo settings. One with DynamicEq and one without. Upload back into the MultEQ app and send to the AVR. Enjoy

@@charltonhmumo6759 Thank you. 6 height speaker setup works best if the Dolby Atmos is scalable, i.e., I recently discovered that movies, such as Ready Player One, that are mixed with just two height channels will not scale across to the front and rear heights. Therefore, in a 6 height speaker setup only the top middles will be active. So in the case of Ready Player One, you are better off with 4 heights because the sound then does scale across front and rear heights. I’m ok with that but others may not be.

Thanks for the question. For Auro 3D, VOG with surround heights is recommended. When you say 2 in ceiling speakers, are you trying to install them as top middle?

@@Alaw_83 so if you have surround heights then the two top middles basically take their place. It’s either or as far as I know. If you want to keep your surround heights then you’re better off with a single VOG. That’s my recommendation. What you could do is front height and rear height plus top middles for a 7.1.6 setup. That works better for Atmos and DTSX as long as the soundtrack is scalable to 6 height speakers.

@magnoliamo what's the best position for vog mo? I have it directly above my seating position? Or does does it need to be more in the middle of the room ?

@Alaw_83 VOG needs to be directly above the MLP.

I agree on the built in DACs in an AVR. If you are happy with the DACs in the AVR and the streaming apps on the receiver then there’s no need for a DAC. However, in my experience the AVR streaming apps do not support bit-perfect Hi-resolution audio like a DAC/PC combination can.

I have not tried running the subs without them. I’m sure they make a difference because those isolation feet are supposed to prevent the bass energy from transferring to the flooring.

@@haivu-ph6sv i saw all your comments lol. You are correct. Direct mode will apply minimal EQ like crossovers but you are dealing with analog to digital and back to analog conversion in direct mode. Use the Pure Direct Mode and connect your sub to the left and right preout channels of the AVR as I mentioned in my other replies to you.

Pure Direct bypasses all DSP and EQ in Pioneer, Denon, and Marantz AVRs. If you want to use a subwoofer then you may want to connect the subwoofer left and right RCA input to the left and right RCA preout on the AVR. That will send the analog signal to the sub and will enable you to utilize the sub in Pure Direct mode.

Great question. Yes, I always engage Pure Direct when using an external DAC. My Marantz 8805A has a separate 2-channel setting where I can set the speaker size and crossover separately. No eq or DSP is applied to Pure Direct like you said but the subwoofers are engaged without applying EQ. I have PEQ on the SVS SB16 Ultra and SB3000 which I engage if I really need to enjoy the music properly.

Dirac is supposedly better because of subwoofer calibration capabilities. But Audyssey MultEQ XT32 is no slouch. I have no experience with Dirac. If you have Audyssey MultEQ XT32 and the MultEQ App then along with the calibration file from Obssesive Compulsive Audiophile the Audyssey sound is much improved. Thank you to you and everyone else who recommended A1 Evo to me. We definitely need to support OCA. Others have commented here that this sounds as good a Dirac as well. I am going back and rewatching my Blu-ray’s now with the new settings and it’s amazing, the difference.

I had an Onkyo RZ50 with Dirac now I have a Denon 3800, A1 Evo definitely even better than Dirac.

This may help. Did some testing and in the script edit maxboost to 6 (default 0, you can try 3 also) and every overallmaxboost to 3 (default 0). Also change allowlowshelf to true in every spot.

I have used the PEQ before running Audyssey but felt it was EQ on top of EQ. So now just use Audyssey with Evo.

With MultEQ app, I was applying room correction to 500 hz for all speakers. Measured RT60A in my room is around 220 hz, so I can go down to that frequency for room correction in the MultEQ app if I really want to.

@@sammy10001 agree about the nulls. The SB16 Ultra is next to the Front Left. I think the SB16 Ultra and SB3000 are cancelling each other out lol. I’m going to get some bass traps and install some ceiling panels hopefully it will fix it.

Yes, mostly use Auro-3D on non dolby atmos soundtracks. I use default settings. I also use Auro-3D for multi-channel music in addition to standard Auro-3D music discs.

@@krishnataveras8734 If you follow the Audyssey’s onscreen direction last two positions are behind the listening 20 inches on the right and left. But you can take those last measurements 6 inches to the front right and left or next to the MLP.

I say try 60 hz. If the bass is not as powerful then switch back to 80 hz. Directional Bass is more for multiple subs in my opinion. I think 60 hz would be more appropriate if the +/- 3 db limit of your speakers is truly at 40-45 hz.
