    I want this automation. This would be used when traveling. When it is clicked, it asks for the flight number and sends a message to specific people, the device goes into airplane mode, turns on low battery mode(to save battery) and turns on Do Not Disturb mode. When turning off it does the same thing in reverse order.

    Great video! Where can I find the Global Options settings for ZHA timeout settings of 10 minutes and 25 hours? What do you use to analyse the network channels?

    • @lets-automate
      @lets-automate 18 днів тому

      So in Home Assistant, if you go to "Settings" > "Integrations" and click the "Zigbee Home Automation" icon, then press "Configure". You should now see a screen with 3 tabs at the top. At the bottom of the "Network" one (which it defaults to) you will see the 2 settings. In ZHA you have to define the durations in seconds, whereas in Zigbee2Mqtt it's in minutes. To analyse the Zigbee network channels I have used the web browser built into the SMLight Coordinator dongles. However, I believe at the moment when using the Ember firmware the scan functionality doesn't work. I ran a scan before I upgraded the firmware from EZSP to Ember. To scan WiFi channels I have used both the "WiFiman" app and the functionality built into my UniFi access points. The thing with scans though is that things can change. Your neighbours might have normal router which switch channels randomly based on what it thinks is a clear channel at that moment in time. The Zigbee channels 15 & 20 somewhat between WiFi channels so the best you can do really.

    10:40 polynomialy, not exponentially, right? Many seem to use "exponentially" as soon as it's beyond a linear relation but that's odd.

    • @lets-automate
      @lets-automate 18 днів тому

      I'm not sure; so I asked ChatGPT, which suggests that exponential is more appropriate in this instance. Either way, the point I'd like to get across is that adding distance really has quite an impact on signal strength, as some people may otherwise think that placing your device 14 meters away rather than 7 meters only means half the signal strength, but indeed has a lot more impact than that. Thanks for watching and commenting, appreciated!

    • @LarsHHoog
      @LarsHHoog 18 днів тому

      @@lets-automate Well, do not trust anything a chatbot may respond. What you may be thinking of is the "inverse square law" which means that the signal strength, light level, sound pressure ... decays proportional to the distance squared. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inverse-square_law en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free-space_path_loss I perfectly know your point but claiming that it is "either way" can imply that someone is not interested in knowledge, learning and correcting something wrong. The difference is actually massive. Examples: - linear growth: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ... - quadratic growth: 1, 4, 9 ,16, 25, ... - EXPONENTIAL growth: 1, 10, 100, 1000, 10000, ... PS. I have a well founded degree in mathematics and computer science

    If a router becomes offline, do the end point connect via other online routers?

    • @lets-automate
      @lets-automate 19 днів тому

      Yes they are supposed to. Although some battery powered end devices may take a while to realise the router is offline as they don't communicate often to save on battery. So trying to keep them online is your best bet!

    You don't loose all your information from updating the truenas system as far as I know , unless you are possibly have a crash while updating ZFS features, the data disks can be moved to different systems. if you use encryption you should have the keys backed up though

    • @lets-automate
      @lets-automate 18 днів тому

      Correct, you don't lose your data when updating TrueNAS. I was just mentioning that when you update the ZFS file system then there is a small risk that there could be a bug in the update that leads to data loss (there was an instance of this as early as last year), so having your data just on 1 system is always a bit risky and wise to have a 2nd TrueNAS instance or Cloud backup etc. And for sure you're right that if you enable encryption (which you generally should) then make sure your keys are backed up in multiple places too!

    • @lets-automate

      I think as a starting point most ESP32 boards are worthwhile. For example this one on AliExpress: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DC4UXyh This has 2 listings, one for the ESP32 itself and then an optional development which can be a nice way of easily attaching wires to the GPIO pins. Please note this is an affiliate link so I would get a few pence if you used it, but you can also just search for "ESP32" on Aliexpress. There are so many sellers I can't guarantee what they are like, but I've ordered a lot from Aliexpress and thankfully never really had an issue. Hope this helps!

      To be honest it doesn't really matter if you say "from" or "to". People would probably more commonly say "to" just because that is the thing being powered. In reality, in an AC circuit the electron direction keeps changing.

      This video is about allowing you to expose Node-RED nodes in Home Assistant. The left menu item is the Node-RED add-on which I'm assuming is already installed / in use. By default you get access to Home Assistant entities in Node-RED but not the other way around. So this shows you what you need to install to expose Nodes in HA. Hopes this helps clarify.

    Node-red is a solution for a problem I don't have. if you can create an automation in HA then you should do it there, don't add more complexity to your HA setup than strictly needed.

    • @lets-automate
      @lets-automate Місяць тому

      Totally agree, if you don't need it then best to have stuff in all one place. In my case, I certainly have some things that would be extremely difficult to achieve in HA. There is a lot of the stuff which used to be hard to do in HA, but I have now migrated most of those automations back from Node-RED into HA.

    Hi I'm new to home assistant. I assume, to have it working with home assistant, my purchase would need to be the M3 hub and the U200 and not just the U200 alone?

    • @lets-automate
      @lets-automate Місяць тому

      Hi, sorry for the late reply! Yes you will want to have the M3 Hub to integrate it into Home Assistant. Another option is to use something like a Sonoff Dongle running Thread, but this is still a bit complex at the moment. Also, it's worth noting that since doing this video I have actually had a few times where the lock state loses synchronization between the lock and Home Assistant, which is really not great. And sometimes I have needed to recalibrate the lock. I was hoping that Aqara would have released an updated firmware by now with some bug fixes, but they have not, it's still firmware version 65. My SwitchBot Pro lock on the other hand is definitely not as nice locking, but this has been much, much more reliable in terms of sending state changes and never needs recalibration. (This is also the case for their original SwitchBot lock)

    Hello, just started to automate my solar usage with node red : got better control than with home assistant automations. One question : how do you create your empty payload to group connections ?

    • @lets-automate
      @lets-automate Місяць тому

      Hi there! You don't need to create an empty payload node anymore really, this is a hangover from old versions which caused issues in some situations. You can just drag multiple lines to a node without anything in the middle. However, if you right click on a node > Insert > Junction then this can be useful to join things together and tidy things up. Hope this helps!

      @lets-automate Місяць тому

      Hi! It depends on what you are using them for. If you are just using them to trigger automations with either Apple Shortcuts of Home Assistant then pretty much any NFC Tags you can buy from Amazon will work as all they store is a unique id. They are usually MiFare Classic 1K, which will be fine. You can also use these to store URLs, contact details or WIFI connection details.

    Great guide - very clear, to the point and covers a vast range of factors to consider!

    It never occurred to me that being smaller could be a feature for a robot vacuum, but I can immediately see how this thing's ability to fit into smaller spaces could be a huge benefit. And it seems like it still has enough power and capacity to be useful. One more variable to consider when shopping around!

      Yeah it's quite neat and can get into spaces my others can't. As will all of these things though in a couple of years time they'll probably be much better again and hopefully eventually hoover my stairs!
