Harriet Jones is back! First Time Watch Doctor Who 1x5 World War Three
#doctorwho #reaction #drwho #firsttimewatching
We're moving along with Doctor Who reactions. First zombies, and now actual aliens?! I hope you enjoy this, and I'll see you in the comments. This episode introduced an iconic character, Harriet Jones, MP of Flydale North. Aliens of London was an absolute riot, so I cannot wait to see how it concludes in this episode of Dr Who, World War Three. This episodes had aliens, gassy beings, and just downright silliness. This is a new editor with a new style, so let me know your thoughts.
This is my first time watching Doctor Who 1x05, World War Three.
Synopsis: The Slitheen have infiltrated Parliament and have the Doctor and his friends trapped as the Doctor works to prevent them from starting World War Three.
Starring:
Christopher Eccleston - Doctor Who
Billie Piper - Rose Tyler

Cast Interview The Tiger's Apprentice | 2024
Awesome review! I thought I was the only person that felt that way about Jake’s character. THANK YOU! I also have the book and I need to read it. This show is awesome. S2 was sooooo good! Yours is the first review I’ve seen on it.
Thanks!! His character really just bothered me. Season 2 just leveled up so hard.
S2 was incredible! When S1 ended and I wasn’t sure about Sato - I was like I’m not watching if he’s not back. Jake. I remember thinking “I don’t like this guy.”😂 The growth of Sato was amazing. He’s the perfect anti-hero. He’s Yakuza but he’s also merciful and intelligent. He had a heart and he knew when to harden it and when to be soft.
@@dragonsanddirewolves the way I was so gutted after the 5th episode.
I was devastated! The only thing that gave me comfort was that Ishida went out like a boss! And I knew Sato was about to elevate.
I can't even begin to count how many so-called "A-list" actors I would walk by just to get to her in a crowded room. She just seems to be such an all-around lovely and interesting person. Let's hope her career continues to gain momentum.
She really was a delight to speak with. I would love to see her at a convention. It's nice to meet actors who are down to earth and humble. Thank you for watching my interview.
Also you may want to watch the specials and react to those as well otherwise you may miss out some lore and great sequences.
I will definitely be watching those. I have the complete guide so I can make sure I watch things in order. I'm up to episode 2x7 on my patreon. It just takes me a minute to edit.
@@ohsukah oh ok just saying for youtube viewers just as myself
you have got to be the funniest reaction channel I've seen for Doctor Who in ages . although I'm not sure how much laughing you're going to do . the way the reboot works the earlier Seasons have Monster of the week however that changes in later seasons and it actually gives you an actual story thats more adultlike and darker. there's always been this internet debate going on is dw for kids . i would say no . its not . personally I would say this show is 13 + teens and adults . there's a lot of politics in war that I would not let any Kid watch
@@corriescrivener1937 awww thanks!! I’m absolutely loving it. I’m just slow on the editing because it’s new to me. I’m actually on episode 2x7. Let me tell you some of the episodes broke my heart!
@@ohsukah no worries take your time any extra information about certain episodes I'm sure people will explain . have a good day
who is the Shireen. 14 seasons in and I still couldn't tell you😂😂
@@corriescrivener1937 😂😂😂 omg I’m weak
I am watching your reactions, but some memes do not add anything to them
@@OrbitalCookie good to know. I’m still working with an editor while I learn the editing process. I appreciate the feedback. I need to be better about going back through it after they complete it.
The best part of the season is yet to come. Super excited for the next episode. Harriet Jones is great, and yeah Doctor Who really can go to emotional scenes with great ease.
@@charlieh7529 I’m curious what that is for you? I personally think Father’s Day hit me the hardest this season
@@ohsukah Agree, I was bawling at Father's Day, but the end of Dalek was quite emotional too, as well as the last episode of the season (especially the ending)...
Watch for recycled actors in the Whoverse.
That's what people have been telling me. I just need more of Harriet!!
1:40 I think the writers have plausible cause to say that it would work this way in this case because there's an active state of emergency what with the ongoing alien invasion and the Doctor did try to attack the Prime Minister lol
13:56 An MP from Flydale North, silly (also other things but you'll find out soon enough)
15:10 The actress's name is Penelope Wilton, she was in the BBC sitcom Ever Decreasing Circles, The Borrowers, and Downton Abbey, as well as playing a minor role in Ricky Gervais's netflix show "After Life," which I saw and thought was pretty good
She is a freaking legend, and I just adore Harriet!!
I'm sure that hissing sound at 2:41 was used for the Xenomorph in Alien 3.
What?! Lemme go relisten.
You probably have seen Penelope Wilton (who played Harriet Jones) before, she's been in many productions, although she's probably best known as Shaun's mom in Shaun of the Dead. I also loved her character. Although I'm fine with the editing (I think the added clips are funny), please ask your editor to turn down the sound of the static for the test pattern used to transition back to the show). The next episode is my favourite modern Doctor Who episode period and really shows the extent of Christopher Eccleston's acting.
I noticed that too. I will be making sure that's corrected for the next time. It's a work in progress, but I'm loving the show. I finished episode 2x4 today, and I'm just an empty shell. lol
Queen Harriet
... of Flydale North 😁
I adore her. Absolutely adore her.
“Don’t go sweetheart, please don’t go” 😭😭
That crushed me!!
It's so cool seeing Simon Callow play Charles Dickens as he is quite an expert on the author and knows A Christmas Carol off by heart. What's also cool is he's even done many shows telling the story to the audience much like in this episode.
Oh wow. That would be cool to see.
The edits in your reactions are wild. I feel like I miss a lot.
Well I'm still learning, and copyright can be a beast.
So awesome to watch your journey into Doctor Who.
Thanks guys!!
“Who does this woman think she is?” Harriet Jones, MP for Flydale North, of course! Haven’t you been paying attention?!?😀😉
I freaking adore her. She's an icon!!
1:54 I think this part is so funny because Russell T Davies (the showrunner from 2005-10) had gay people mad at him for this line and also homophobic people mad at him for having openly gay characters showing affection in the show, he was just pissing everybody off 💀
7:03 It's definitely a big deal lol the Doctor giving his companions a key to the tardis is always a fun moment
8:06 A backbencher is basically a "rank and file" member of Parliament, they sit at the back benches of the House of Commons and they're just everyone who doesn't have an office or ministry in government or a spokesperson seat in the opposition party
Ohhh...I see. I appreciate the explanation.
I was gonna say, that seemed huge. Their chemistry is so damn good.
I'm just not looking forward to Russell T Davies breaking my heart at some pace throughout his run.
Please dont watch the next time part
I stop watching those around episode 7 or 8. I can't remember. I actually have everything filmed up to 2x3. It's just a matter of getting those edited. All the full length unedited reactions are on my patreon.
@@ohsukah Good idea. You now know how easy it would be to spoil some things :)
The actor playing the General (who you asked about near the beginning) is Rupert Vansittart. He's a British character actor who has' been in many productions; the biggest being in Game of Thrones playing Lord John Royce. He was also in Braveheart, Remains of the Day, Bridgerton, Andor and many more. I love Penelope Wilton's character, Harriet Jones and how she's always flashing her ID and identifying herself as "MP Flydale North" (a fictional constituency). A 'backbencher' is a member of Parliament who isn't in cabinet and doesn't rank very highly within their party. They literally sit on the back benches in Parliament. The cabinet ministers (or shadow cabinet) sit close to the prime minister (or the leader of the opposition) so they can answer questions posed by the opposition during Question Period. No one usually directs questions to backbenchers & they aren't usually picked to ask or answer questions. (When a party "caucuses- - meet privately they usually plan out who will ask questions/answer questions.) We use the same term "backbencher" here in Canada for our less important MPs. However, our MPs actually have desks, in the UK, they literally sit on benches without desks in a fairly crowded room.)
Can I just say how every whovian I've come across has been so awesome? Y'all have been so helpful explaining terms and helping me on this journey. Harriet Jones seriously captured my heart.
Oh my goodness the editing style for this episode is on point! High hopes for the rest of them.
I'll send your compliments to the editor. He does an awesome job. I cackled at this and episode 5.
They are having a party at Jackie's at the beginning of the episode. But it's not due to the aliens, it's to celebrate Rose coming back home.
Ahhh!!! Now that makes sense. I didn't catch on to that.
Harriet is Penelope Wilton ----Sean of the Dead's mum!
OMFG!! You're right!!! Any time she's on screen, I just adore her in this series.
@@ohsukah and Downton Abbey of course!
Actress is playing Harriet has been in a about 1 million different things
You know I'm old, so I sometimes forget. I just know I've seen here before. lol
I've just watched your first 3 reactions, please stop watching the next week spoilers, it helps, that's all I'm saying, I have subscribed to follow you on you Dr Who journey, it's gonna be a fantastic journey.
I believe I stop doing that around episode 8. I think that was the empty child. I have the entire first series recorded. It's just going to take time to get the edited ones out. The full length are on my patreon, and we just watched the series 1 finale. My god, I was gagged!!
The theatre used is the New Theatre in Cardiff.... the exterior and street scenes were filmed in Swansea. And yes the English take the piss out of Welsh, and Russell being Welsh tends to show that - A Navvy was someone who built the navigaitons - in other words canals and later the railways - so they were lower class workers. I lived in Cardiff when this was being filmed. My claim to fame was that I worked at a recycling charity and contributed some of the computers used as props for the series.
Wait, you did?? That's so cool. Thanks for some of that information. I'll make sure to remember that moving forward. I'll admit some things go over my head, but man do I love this show.
@@ohsukah Always glad to help, having lived in Cardiff and I know the New Theatre very well.
It looked like someone was floating in midgravity into the acid blood
You just know that would be a gnarly death.
4:39 A navvy is generally a construction or road worker, in this time period it would probably be associated with railroad workers and canal excavators, the word comes from a shortening of "navigator"
8:43 Oh you'll find out don't worry :3
12:23 It's like the Ohio of the UK
Not the Ohio of the UK. I'm weak.
Uh oh
Ohhhh. That's good to know.
A "navvy" was a labourer on construction projects like roads, railways, and canals. It's still used today in British slang, but is much less commonly used than in the past. It's taken me three attempts to post this: UA-cam keeps posting it to someone else's channel even though it's your video I'm watching!
Not youtube saying get this "queen" off the tv. LOL
I am enjoying your reactions, my suggestion would be to be a season ahead to avoid inevitable spoilers in the comments :)
I think I start that towards the later episodes of this season.
My comment goes here
❤❤❤❤❤
Part of this journey that makes me enjoy it is (personal info) you remind my 1st ever bf decades ago. Love you so much more
Awww...well thank you!
Excited that you continue with the watch! Oh this next episode is gonna be great ;D
Oh...it is. An icon and a legend appears. LOL. I go mental over a new character.
"What's so bad about Cardiff" Wales, Scotland and Ireland don't tend to like England that much. Think of it like siblings, you hate their guts but if anyone tried to harm them you'd go to war over them.
Ohhhhh I see.
@@ohsukah Cardiff is also where the show is filmed so that's part of why they poke fun at it. A lot of the show is set in London but pretty much everything is filmed in Cardiff
Glad you enjoyed the episode. Personally, when this was first transmitted, I felt it was the best story of the three that had aired at that point. The writer, Mark Gatiss, is an acclaimed writer and actor and grew up in the 70’s and Doctor Who was his favourite show. After the show was cancelled in 1989 Gatiss was one of a number of fans who wrote original Doctor Who stories as novels which got published. It was a way of keeping Doctor Who alive, during ‘the wilderness years’ (as it became known between 1990 and 2004), because no one knew if the BBC were ever going to bring the series back! When Doctor Who was revived in 2004, show runner Russell T. Davies asked Gatiss and a few other Wilderness book writers if they’d like to write for the new series, and all of them said yes! Gatiss has written a number of NuWho stories for Doctors 9, 10, 11 and 12, since the show came back in 2005. Some, like this one, are very good, others less so! Gatiss has also acted in two NuWho stories (no spoilers but I’m sure your subscribers will let you know when he’s about to appear!) Fun fact: Simon Callow, the actor who played Dickens in this story, shot to fame in the Hugh Grant film, Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994). He was one of two in a gay relationship in the film and was wonderful in the part. He also happens to be an authority on the life of Charles Dickens, having written a biography about the great man, back in 2012 (2012 was the bicentenary of Dickens birth), so if anyone was best suited to play Dickens, then it was Simon Callow!
Oooh...I love all this knowledge. It's been ages since I've seen that film too. It's due for a rewatch. I will have to search out these novels.
Such a fun and creepy episode !
Yaaasssss!!!
Charles dickins actual great great great (and a few more greats!) Grandson is in the 3rd season of Dr who... he is a super creepy bad guy... he was also in the first season of game of thrones....
wait...what???
@@ohsukah yep!

Just a heads up, those "next times" are a bit spoilery so feel free to skip them if you don't want to know too much about the coming episode. But if you are going to watch, I'd love to watch your reaction to them so keep that in okay?? haha
I already have to episode 12 filmed. I do stop watching those at a certain point, and will be moving forward.
