I considered RevWood laminate for an update to our master bedroom and hallway. LVP was never a consideration. After much thought, I'm going to install engineered hardwood. I installed engineered hardwood 13 years ago in our kitchen, breakfast area, and main entry, and it still looks great. I agree, there's nothing luxury about LVP.
Thanks for your comments. I’ve installed every floor that you mentioned. You will be super pleased with the engineered wood floor. I have that in my house on the main level. Literally every time you walk on it it feels like real luxury, not fake luxury…
I have had a hole in my wood floor for 4 years (ironically from the chair where I used to sit to edit UA-cam videos early on), and I never realized it was this easy to repair! Thanks Larry
Thank you Jerry. I suppose everything is fixable to some degree. Hope you’re doing well 👍🏼😊
Looks like shit
The cut end goes agains the wall it gets covered most of the time with baseboard. Yea looks kind of hard to cut though, imagine doing this 500 times in a day
I just finished a commercial office floor with laminate planks. We gave up on manual cutters and brought over a chop saw and a table saw 👍🏼😊
Good products. 👍
Thank you for watching and commenting!
I installed a heavy yet brittle TG flooring from Lowe’s. Never, ever again. Constant chipping, impossible to interlock without issues! Fortunately it was only 200SF so when I Sh*t canned the product I was only out 800 bucks I’ve always used real wood that is generally more forgiving!
Oh wow. Thanks for watching and taking time out of your day for responding to my video. I appreciate it.
I have to admit, could it have been operator error 🤷♂️perhaps. As an old school wood guy, I’m partial to what I know. Old dogs aren’t always fond of new tricks. If a pro had installed it, I’d probably feel it’s the best thing since sliced bread
I will suggest not to put drywall in a toilet. Yes, it is much cheaper than tiles, and the result is much cheaper.
Thanks for watching and taking time out of your day for responding to my video. I appreciate it.
I had a 200 gallon salt water aquarium burst and flooded my living area. I replaced the carpeting with a thick Mohawk Laminate plank from a local flooring discount store. It was a DIY. There are some chips and a couple planks that have shifted (DIY issue) and it looks dated. Not worn and used, just style. It's been 20 years now on those floors. I installed it in the kitchen (high water risk area), living room and dining room. First time ever installing flooring. It has held up extremely well. Of those 20 years of use, the first 5 had a pair of Rottweilers and two kids. The last 15 years were renters with pets. I am starting a remodel/flip and will decide between LVT and Vinyl Planks. Cost and ease of installation will be the factor. I also installed LVT in a house in Hawaii as part of a remodel. It was the stiff version not the thin wavy strips. Looked nice.
Thank you for sharing your experience and these flooring stories 👍🏼😊 We all learn together
25 years ago, I had Wilsonart laminate installed in our front entryway, living room, dining room, kitchen and hallway. It looks the same as the day it was installed, despite kids and an 80 lb dog. The planks were glued together, and absolutely no water damage has occurred with snow being tracked into the house or mopping. Shame Wilsonart no longer makes this.
That’s an amazing testament to their quality. Thanks for sharing this with me and the viewers 👍🏼😊🛠️
I just finished another room that has a major hump in the middle of the room (approx 3/4" drop over 2'). I was concerned about using vinyl, given that everyone seems to say the floor has to be very flat for vinyl. But after thinking about it and laying a vinyl plank and laminate plank over the hump, I found the vinyl's flex is much better able to handle the hump on the floor than laminate. So I went with the vinyl, and it worked fine. It just flexed to the hump, sitting nice and flush on the humped floor. In fact, a vinyl plank will flex about 1.5" over 2', so about double the hump in my floor. I also found a few areas of up to 1/4" depression, which I had to fill in because the vinyl would not flex downward to the depressions nearly as well as draping over humps.
Thanks for sharing all this information. I like that you’re thinking problems through & solving the problems. That’s more than what a lot of homeowners do. Yeah, I find the low spots are more important to fix than the high humps. I have a hump in one of my houses right now. It’s more important to fill the low spots such as self leveling compound before installing LVP. Thanks for watching 👍🏼😊
Installed laminate 5 years ago. Failed within one year. They fought the warranty when the top surface was breaking away because they alleged water damage. There was never a drop. Proof was the delamination was only on one side of each joint. Water would have destroyed both sides. The thin "particle board" tongues were fracturing, which cause the layers to separate. The reason for that was that they insist we buy their thin foam underlayment. ILL CONCEIVED! It is supposed to prevent slapping sounds but it compresses with weight on it. If you are standing one one plank, it goes down, maybe a tiny fraction of a millimeter, but that makes the flimsy tongue to the next plank carry your whole weight, shearing off the thin tongue. I think it might have survived if I omitted the underlayment, but that kills the warranty. They finally refunded my whole purchase price, but not the wasted labor. Many youtube videos from pros complaining of the same disasters.
Thank you for sharing your story and your experience. I appreciate your time. Yeah I hear stories like this a lot too. They sell snap plank flooring systems as a do-it-yourself product but so many of them are really cheap and inferior. I cannot believe to this day they still sell $.79 per square foot garbage out there on the market.
Thank you Thank you Thank you for this video. I'm starting to shop for new kitchen floors, and this was so very helpful. I'm going with laminate due to its thickness and softer feel underfoot. And... it's now water resistant!
Awesome. Also check reviews of the brand you are choosing to confirm you are getting quality. With floor planks don’t go too cheap…Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate you taking the time.
Can you sister a Rim Joist...HVAC guys made 2 3 holes for venting...i would feel more peace of mind if i can add something to it
Yes, you actually can. As you may already know, the rim joist on the exterior of your house is literally holding up the walls to your house above. Go ahead and add some new framing to that area to reinforce 👍🏼🛠️
Was going to do this in a front hall way. Does the edges start to roll up at all were they aren't taped together
The carpet tiles lay very flat and the corner tab adhesive strips hold them perfect. We have vacuumed many many times and never observed any curling.
Yes, the boxes of carpet tiles will include adhesive strips to tape the corners together underneath
Good thing he has the road side security vest in the living room. Wouldn’t want to get run over by a car installing flooring.
Thanks for your help. Glad there's people like you who share great advice and instructions. Thanks again you helped with my furnace problem.
Thanks for watching and taking time out of your day for responding to my video. I appreciate it.
Would like to see what it looks like stuffing the wires back in the box. Always interested to see how everyone else handles space management.
Hey, I’ll admit I’ve had times in the past where the box was so stinking full. I turned my screwdriver around and used the handle to get extra leverage and shove those wires back in there. Whatever it took. I see some electricians online they’re all fancy and they’ll push the grounds to the lower left corner and the neutral to the lower Right corner and the hot to the upper right corner, etc. etc. Thanks for watching.
@HomeRapidRepair Oh good, glad I'm not the only one.
Glue down your LVP. Waterproof AND durable.
Thank you for watching and commenting. Yes I’ve had other viewers too that say glue down vinyl is undefeated as a quality flooring option that will last for years and years.
New here! Wondering what to do if you don't have an outlet nearby on the other side? Case in point, I'd like to install two exterior outlets a (one in the front of the home and one in the rear). In both cases, the locations that are ideal for usage aren't exactly close to another interior outlet. What do I do?
That’s actually a great question. And unfortunately, you probably already know that makes things a lot more complicated. I think my first solution would be to bring the electrical feed wire from underneath such as unfinished basement, if you have access, or an attic. In the unfinished basement or crawlspace you will run the electrical wire over into the wall you need it and then to your exterior. Don’t feel bad if you have to cut open a little bit of drywall or run a wire. Electricians do it all the time.
Definitely shaving cream for stainless steel and bathroom mirror. I would think that using it for outside of windows.. well, it's oil & would hold more dirt & dust.
I’ve never heard the shaving cream trick. Thank you for watching 👍🏼😊
Best WD40 Deal I’ve Found: amzn.to/4gpEEGs
"Luxury" is from Marketing, not Engineering.
You know I 100% agree with you. Realtors and others are always calling these “luxury” vinyl planks. So many are cheap wavy trash 😳
@@HomeRapidRepair Exactly.
Cheap vinyl planks, your concerns are 100% correct. High quality planks though are way stronger then laminate, easy to install, and guaranteed water proof
Thank you 👍🏼😊 Thanks for watching and taking time out of your day for responding to my video. I appreciate it.
Put 1/2 drywall on top and your out 4 inches. Precious space. It’s a trade off. The difference in R value between 1 1/2 and 2” foam is 2.5 so very much negligible. You are only giving up 2.25 inches for an insulated exterior wall. Not bad.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and advice here. I appreciate it.
Perfect timing. I have 5 different types of flooring on my main floor and I am getting ready to redo it all. 4 of those floors are laminate, one is carpet. The laminate in the kitchen was ruined due to a dishwasher leak that swelled the boards and then they shrunk. I said no more laminate, I need something waterproof. My daughter did LVP at her house. I was sold on LVP next, but now I may have to go with Laminate.
If you buy thicker LVP you’ll like the quality. It costs more but is so with it. And today’s laminate floor planks are so much better than years ago. Good luck picking out your new floors 👍🏼😊
This is same as using the slip in connection on a receptacle. Not good
I think you mean the back stab connector on the back of outlets? It’s done millions of times per year…but I do see a higher failure rate than a more solid connection.
Tile in wet areas, finished in place hardwoods everywhere else.
good advice. i thought the wobble was due to my grand derrière
It could be 😂 However in either case both situations are correctable 👍🏼😊😂
? WATERFROOF WOOD-BASED LAMINATE FLOORING ? 1. It will be WATERPROOF if it never comes into contact with water. 2. WOOD-BASED. That means that the major components of the floor are actually wood or wood byproducts. That could be solid wood, laminated wood strips or plywood, or wood chips and dust blended with resins or glue. Wood will never be totaly waterproof, no matter what you apply to it. EVER! 3. LAMINATE. Your driver's license is a piece of paper, that has been LAMINATED with a layer of plastic. Plastic Laminate, which is made from multiple layers of paper saturated with plastic resin and pressed under pressure into thin sheets. Some floorings are made with plastic Laminate applied to a wood substance. Plastic Laminate is water resistant, but it is not waterproof. EVER! Some " Laminate Flooring" appears to be some type of a wood based product that was wrapped with a thin plastic sheet, or even a melamine sheet. The wood core is never waterproof and can absorb moisture during normal use, and by improper cleaning. This can caused the core to swell, and can cause failure of the flooring. THINK OF IT AS PUTTING PLASTIC WRAP AROUND A SANDWICH! It will do a good job keeping it fresh, just dont put it in the dishwasher! Concrete floors are not waterproof, they are like a sponge. Tile with grout joints is not waterproof. Wood flooring is not waterproof. Laminate and laminated flooring is not waterproof. Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring is as close to waterproof as you can get. If you spill a gallon of water on it, water may get behind the flooring at the seams, but it should not absorb into or affect the performance of the flooring. Can't decide which flooring you want? Get small samples of different floorings and soak them in a bucket of water for a week. Take them out, inspect then, then decide!
You certainly bring up a lot of great points here. The laminate floor manufacturers are now using that word “waterproof” on many of their products. I imagine the attorneys put in a ton of definition words in there to get out of future claims.
Another option to take a look at is Ideal’s SPLICELINE® IN-LINE WIRE CONNECTOR model 42 orange . No levers needed. Great for short wires in my opinion.
Yes, that sounds great. Thanks for sharing. I will definitely be making future videos on all the different wire connector options. I like that homeowners have options. ⚡️👍🏼
the way you tested them are wrong, using cloth to remove carpet stain is like spreading the dirt
Yes I agree with you. Thanks for watching and taking time out of your day for responding to my video. I appreciate it.
that home owner is smart
I hear you. I know they can be incredibly frustrating sometimes. But if a homeowner purposely bypassed a manufacturer’s safety device, they will be liable for any resulting injury or damage…
@@HomeRapidRepair home owner are liable either way.
No way would I use those. It is safer extending the wires with wire nuts.
Thank you for watching. WAGO and similar connectors have been used millions of times and are the standard in Europe.
WAGO's are the standard here in Europe, you aren't even allowed to use wire nuts here because you cant confirm a solid connection and you need practice to use them correctly, those WAGO connectors can handle 40+ amps at 230V all day. i have some in my engine bay and they still don't show any sign of degradation after 6 years even tho they aren't meant for that environment.
The 30 milliamp button is for testing an equipment ground fault device which should trip at maximum 30 milliamp compared to a class A GFCI receptacle which should trip at maximum 7 milliamp.
Thank you for sharing this information ⚡️
Thanks for the honest video and the time to make and share it. As someone else noted, if you brush on the somewhat matched paint and then feather out the edges, it will be just fine. Anything is better than the cracks and holes! Thanks!!! 👍
Good idea. Thanks for your great comments…I appreciate you taking that time to watch and comment 👍🏼😊
How's that going to protect against fire, it's plastic?
Great question. I have inspected over 10,000 properties in my career. What happens with an electrical short is a very brief spark… And if the open wire splice is near wood or paper or something like that, it can start a house fire. But if the wires and resulting spark are in any kind of junction box, whether it be plastic or metal, you’re safe and the circuit breaker or fuse will trip and turn off the power. Thank you for watching.
A majority of the electrical wire boxes in North America are plastic and not metal… It’s been that way for a couple decades now
you guys don't sleeve your ground wires?
Never have in over a 120 years. Not needed. No fires 🔥 over here, well mostly no fires 😳😂
Would this work for a quarter size hole?
Absolutely. Bondo is the quickest and best all-purpose patch product you will ever find 👍🏼😂
Love the tips and info! ❤❤❤
Thanks 😊 Thanks for watching and taking time out of your day for responding to my video. I appreciate it.

Yes, only for the homeowner with no experience wanting an easy repair 👍🏼😊🛠️
A little bit of heat shrink slid over the wago's would do great
Ha…I was just in that isle of Lowe’s the other day and I meant to pick some heat shrink up. Thanks for the reminder ⚡️👍🏼
@@HomeRapidRepair Wagos dont need heat shrink, they are surrounded by plastic, if you use the arrows on the side, you know how much isolation to take off. As an European electrician we only use heat shrink for Splice/Crimps. I find it interesting how americans do the electricals.
@@lilbatti5506 Thank you for responding....Good point about Americans wanting to always just do for themself rather than hiring out. All our 50 states have different laws in regards to a home owner completing their own electrical work.
They don't need heat shrink but it will keep the levers from opening, you don't even have to heat it; straws are not ul listed, and electrical tape just get sticky over the years.
The problem for me understanding your answer.. Your saying the lever on wagos opening? I've never had that happen to me and my boss and I have tried the pulling test and Amp test, for continuing 32 amps and 220/230 volts though it. It has never burned out or anything. But everyones view is different, on how things are worked out. In denmark we use wagos for everything, and we have soo.. many laws regarding how 'Everything has to be done'. But I appreciate your view point.
Aw hell nah 😂
I'd tape the wago tabs down - but you don't have to.
Yes I’ve heard that complaint that the levers can be pushed up if you shove too hard into a crowded box. 💪🏼⚡️🛠️
Ive literally done it and we are moving in a month...
Thanks for watching and taking time out of your day for responding to my video. I appreciate it.
@HomeRapidRepair yeah I personally had no Idea LED lights damaged paint that's a huge flaw I think should be reviewed by the Creators and producers of LEDs
This is great content that every man need to be subscribe too.
Thanks for watching and taking time out of your day for responding to my video. I appreciate it.
Those little plastic plugs that fail, they’re not designed for dry wall. You use them in solid wood and concrete where the hole has stripped out, where we used to jam it with matchsticks. There are expanding butterfly inserts for drywall where they tap in, and the screw threads into the butterfly on the inner side of the wall, expands it and pulls it tight against the other side of the drywall, not even threading into the wall. Even removing them is hard.
Hey, thank you. You bring up a lot of good points and interesting tips for sure. I hope all my viewers read your comment 👍🏼🛠️
@ Thank you. 😊
