The big day is here! I finally get to plant my farm garden. Fortunately I got some help! The farm garden was planted on June 10, 2023. It got down to 33 degrees the next night. Fortunately everything survived.

Should I use the yellow leaves?
Hi. I don't use the yellow leaves. Too dry.
Thank you! I have a mass of flat leaf parsley and I was a bit overwhelmed at dealing with it but this looks easy enough.
My wife and I watched your complete video of your wonderful garden. Enjoyed every minute and you are a great host. Very well done and we picked up some good ideas to use in our garden here in Terrebonne, Quebec (north of Montreal). We look forward to seeing more of your work and “Merci beaucoup”. Richard and Mei
$2.95/lb, i'm curious what you pay now 6yrs later. Just looked it up $3.45/lb from that same farm. (Also a Wisconsin girl not farm from there) 👋
As of June 2024, beef is $3.45/lb. plus $.85/lb for processing based on hanging weight. They have specials there all the time on their beef where they will bundle items which is usually a pretty good deal.
Hope your doing well. Are you making anymore videos of gardening?
Hi Rich. I will be making more videos but not right now. I've had a really bad year so far and just can't seem to pick up the camera and paste a smile on my face. I'm sure things will get better soon and I'll be back. Hopefully I can get a tomato taste testing video out this year as I planted some viewer favorites. Thanks for checking in!!
@@SharonsHomeGarden I hope things pick up for you. Thanks for answering.
Hi. what are you mixing in the quart water to the neem and soap?
Nothing else. Just neem oil, soap and water.
@@SharonsHomeGarden Thank you
Where do you buy your Galina Cherry seeds from?
Hi, I got them from Tomato Grower's Supply online.
Thank you for shearing! At the end need oil help against those terrible beetles? We have a lot of them :( They eat first what they like and after everything else (
Love your taste test videos! Have you ever grown San Marzano Redorta?
Hi! I don't think I've ever grown that particular variety of San Marzano. Hope it turns out for you!!
This was extremely helpful! It will be my first time buying something like this and had no idea how to ask for the cuts. Thank you!
Kennebec and Red Norland grow good in TN hot dry 100° summer weather they are both 3 month crops.
Hi Sharon. I grew over 80 varieties in my backyard this past summer. Doing the same for 2024. Favorites? The greens. Green Giant was super tasty. Hillbilly still a favorite, as was Pink Tiger.
Eighty!?! Wowza! I'm going to try a few new ones this year based on recommendations from you all. I've grown Hillbilly before but it's been a while. I'll have to add those to my list. Stay warm!!
I look forward to your tomato tastings, this was great to watch in January as I'm looking out at a cold wet PNW landscape. If you are looking for a reliable black tomato I highly recommend Black Krim. Never fails to produce, great flavor and long season. This year some of my standouts were Ananas Noir (Black Pineapple), the always reliable Pruden's Purple (a less finicky, earlier, great tasting and more productive Brandywine type of tomato. Bloody Butcher is my favorite early tomato at 55 days, great taste, usually the earliest tomato and the longest season, still going strong in late September and into October. Another long time favorite is Pink Berkley Tie Dye, pretty early, great taste, very productive and so beautiful. Still looking for the elusive perfect Bi-color tomato to replace Pineapple. Still my favorite of all time but Pineapple just needs too many days and produces too few tomatoes to include in my garden. In 2024 I am trying a few new tomatoes, Hillbilly (bi-color), Virginia Sweets (bi-color) Stump of the World and the winner of my garden groups tomato tasting which was a huge surprise to me, Moreton's Hybrid. A lovely tomato, the first hybrid I have ever tasted that I really liked. I guess the seeds were lost and Harris seeds brought them back. I paid $5 for the seeds and another $5 for shipping so I must have really liked them:) I garden in Washington, our seasons are really changing the last few years. We used to have shorter seasons but our summers have become hotter and longer so I am able to grow some of the longer season tomatoes. I really enjoy watching what you are doing with your two gardens and love the tomato tastings:)
I always look forward to your taste test video's Sharon. I think I am going to add Brandysweet Plum to my list next year. I've heard great things about it. I would love to hear a list of your top 10 - 15 favorite tomatoes so far that you have grown. :)
Thanks much! I hope your Bradysweet Plum tastes as good as mine. They have been consistent from year to year for me. A list of top 10? Hmmm ... I'll have to think about that one!
I agree with another commenter. I don't think you grew Carolina Gold. Maybe your plant was mislabeled. Google Carolina Gold. They are round.
Could be the nursery got it wrong. Who knows now-a-days!
Thank you for another great taste test. I am partial to sweet tomatoes/oxhearts. I'm wanting to try Martha W. now! I hope you have a wonderful Christmas Sharon snd Tim, and that 2024 is a prosperous new year for you two! ❤
Thank you! You too!
My favourite this year was Hawaiian Pineapple. Next year I’m growing all new varieties as I’ve got seeds for over 200 through seed swaps. I can only grow 48 plants so I’m going to have to figure out which ones will make the list.
That's one of the hardest decisions to make with a garden - which tomatoes to grow!! Good luck!
Did you use saved seeds from Plum Regal or did you use original seeds? They are a hybrid. Very strange....I've been growing Plum Regal for 4 years now and yields are crazy, buckets upon buckets full, 75 days or less, and they all ripen before its too cool up here in Minnesota Zone 4b.
No, the seeds were from Johnnys so I can't believe they would be the wrong seeds. I might have to buy them again and try them again for next year. The plants were loaded but they didn't get ripe.
@@SharonsHomeGarden Carolina Gold is large, round like a ball, Beefsteak meaty tomato, frequently used by market gardeners for sale....the one you showed was small, watery inside. New seed might be a good idea. All the best!
It did not look like Carolina Gold (?)
I agree. I think she got a mislabeled plant!
Why were you so late? We were waiting for your tomato testing. Its an annual thing for us 🙂
Sorry about that! Too much traveling back and forth across the state, work, life, etc. Stuff just happens.
Great tomato taste test, Sharon ❤ please always do these.
Thanks! I'll try to keep 'em coming!
Hi Sharon... I have missed seeing your tomato taste tests... Glad to see you again..
Thanks!
I always love your taste test videos! Looking forward to the next episode 😊
Glad you like them!
I was watching your 2023 taste test video today and jumped to this one in the middle to see everything you planted this year. I copied this info about Heirloom Marriage tomatoes from Totally Tomatoes. I buy a bunch of seeds from them, mostly tomatoes and peppers and I am ALWAYS happy with their seeds. "Heirloom Marriage Hybrid varieties are produced from modern day unions of heirloom parents, providing hybrid vigor while maintaining the virtue and integrity of their old-fashioned beginnings. They were bred for improved yield, earlier maturity, and fewer blemishes while maintaining old-time flavor."
Thanks for the info!
I love tomato taste tests. I don’t know if you watch other gardening UA-cam videos but I recommend Jen Joy if you haven’t already watched any of hers.
Thanks for the recommendation. I've been having a hard time find a gardening channel that I like so I'm looking forward to watching a new one.
A tomato taste test. A breath of fresh air in the midst of all kinds of chaos in the world
Thanks! It's the little things ...
Beautiful harvest, Sharon! I'll bet that kept you busy for awhile! All that hard work paid off...enjoy your bounty 😊
My top 3 beefsteaks are 1 Abe Lincoln, 2 Blue Beauty 3 Bonnies Best! My favorite cherries are Sungold, my own variety, called smokey grape, and a saved seed from what I think was sweet 100's. I have taste tested against all different kinds, and non compares to any seed I have, so I just keep saving it year to year. I didn't know sweet 100 was a hybrid when I saved it.
I'll add those to my list I'm making for next year!
@@SharonsHomeGarden If you want some of my seed I can mail you some.
That would be wonderful! Let me see if I can figure out how to DM you ...
Garden looks great. I can't wait to start my garden in Feb and Mar. Gonna be a learning experience for us . Dying for a tomato sandwich already.
Amen to that!
Great job,garden looks great
Wow and no problems with vine borer, squash bugs, or powdery mildew. Lucky you!
I did end up getting powdery mildew on a few of the zukes, both otherwise they were clean. :)
Thanks for the video. We did terrible on cukes this year also . This is our first year in the Phoenix area as snowbirds and I've been picking everyone's brains about gardens . Looking forward to having a garden here and in the summer in Buffalo. Are you going to get some chickens?
So you get to have a winter garden too? That's pretty cool! I've always wondered what it would be like to try to grow in Arizona. Chickens are in the plans for once I retire, which should be in about 18 months.
@@SharonsHomeGarden Yes gonna do some tomatoes and cukes this year to get our feet wet. Have 2 orange trees and 1 lemon,1lime trees. This is very interesting for me.
@@rich-mp6dm My dad lived in Scottsdale and had a wonderful fruit grove in his backyard. Enjoy it!!
I was wondering where your tomato taste test videos were! Hope they are part of the upcoming videos :)
Yes, they are coming soon! I just need to get through a few videos before I get to those.
No more garden videos this year ? Tomato reviews?
I'm working on them now. It was a BUSY summer ...
@@SharonsHomeGarden . okay. Thank you.
Im looking for local but have not found one do you ship
I don't sell beef, I bought mine from a local farmer.
Here’s my take on how this is working in my area!… todays prices 2023 is through roof!!!. The 5-6 people I know that has done this have become a (1 Time) customer!!. They get back about 50% in ground up hamburger and no more that a dozen or so 🥩 steaks!… this is DEFINITELY not for me!!!🤣… I just buy a little hamburger when I need it… and I’ll buy TONS of filet which I prefer, nice and fresh!!!. When you buy it like this, you are FORCED to eat what is there whether you want it or not!!!. Anyways… to everyone their own!!!. Great video! Good luck with your beef!☝️😃
I raise beef for a living and you got a deal
Love the taste test, gets right to it, very nice structured reviews, my feeling about the "mountain" shipping tomatoes.
Those are growing beautifully for having such a late start! We're growing hot paprika peppers (leutschauer variety) and black Hungarian peppers this year. We had a very late start (May) , but both have short harvest seasons and the paprikas have really taken off. To process, we usually cut them in half and dehydrate them for spicy peppers (we grew Carolina reapers for my husband last year) and load them into an old spice grinder. We had frozen a bunch of habaneros and seranos whole, but we just didn't use them in that form. If we have extras this year, I thought I'm going to chop them up finely and freeze them in ice cube trays to throw in as we cook throughout the year!
The strange sound at 19:20. Have there been any Bigfoot sightings in the area lately?
Lol! Not that I know of ... it kindof sounded like an Elk to me...
Seems like everything is behind this year in our garden. My neighbor says the smoke from Canada is to blame . Your garden looks phenomenal.
Thanks! We've been talk to people farther north from the farm garden and they are having the same issues. Down by my house, I am getting ripe tomatoes but that's not the case as you go north. The pickles have finally started to produce though. I don't know if it's the smoke so much as the lack of rain. Have a good one!
Looks great! I am having the same issue with bad seeds. About half of my tomato's are not what I planted so I know how you feel.
It's so frustrating! Before this year I haven't had this problem. Maybe it's something that all seed companies are having? Hopefully you are getting something that you can use from your tomatoes.
@@SharonsHomeGarden I am thinking that also. Unfortunately my "black cherry" tomatoes are the size of beefsteaks. So far none have ripened. all have cracked, webbed and hard as a rock even at 4" fruits. Due to those issues I haven't been able to try any yet. "Sungolds" are huge and pumpkin shaped. I haven't tasted them yet either. Maybe they will turn out to be great. A lot of my plants are only about 2ft tall as well. Thank goodness I have sweet 100, Barry's crazy cherries that are taking over my yard. I hope you get something you can use also. :)
Looking good lovely!
All is looking well!
Where do you live? We're over 100 here in Arkansas regularly now and tomatoes are not setting fruit. Yours don't have that "baked to death" look.
This garden is in central Wisconsin. My home garden is in southeastern Wisconsin, where it’s much warmer and gets less rain, and my tomatoes are dropping blossoms there too.
@@SharonsHomeGarden So sorry to hear. Losing fruit sucks after all that care. It's hard to keep them going through the hot summer to Fall to start producing again. Best to you on fruit coming back soon.
Looks really good. We can't grow carrots no matter what we do. I even tried the strips. Waiting for the first tomato sandwich.😊
I have good luck at home growing carrots in my covered raised bed. I may have to make a carrot bed at the farm. I'm looking forward to the first BLT!
Looks so good! I'm sorry you lost some! 😢
Thanks, I always expect to lose one or two...
What about for roses. Its really hot where I live the sun is strong on them. Im afraid to spay them when its hot. Does it damage the leaves to get them wet under the sun? What do you suggest. THey keep eating my roses
Try doing a test patch with the spray and see how the leaves react. Usually neem oil is pretty gentle on the plants. Also, don't spray in the middle of the day ... only early morning or at dusk.
…It is alot of effort, but hopefully it also feels good to have space to try out so many varieties. 😁 I have a friend in England and we talked about vegetables the last few years. They don’t have Yukon Gold potatoes, or Walla Walla onions. They do have Butternut squash, but can you believe, he never heard of Acorn Squash !!! 😳 I hope you got some rain. 😁🪴🌷
Looking good....great job everyone! As far as pruning suckers: Determinate, no; Indeterminate, yes (mainly bc we have such a short growing season).
