    For motorcycles with a chain drive on the left-hand side, positioning the spindle nut on the right reduces the chance of the nut loosening due to the forces generated by chain tension. The rotational force of the rear wheel under acceleration can cause a left-hand spindle nut to potentially loosen.

    • @bikerantics5001
      @bikerantics5001 5 днів тому

      I don’t think that’s true🤷‍♂️. If the rotational force is causing an effect wouldn’t it be due to axle movement🤔. If you have axle movement your bearings would need to be seized to the axle for it to rotate. If this were the case having the nut sprocket side would tighten the nut, wouldn’t it🤔🤷‍♂️

    • @kevinansell9341
      @kevinansell9341 5 днів тому

      @@bikerantics5001 I'll try and explain simpler. On most motorcycles, the chain drive is located on the left side of the bike. The chain transmits power from the engine's front sprocket to the rear sprocket, causing the rear wheel to rotate. This power transmission creates a set of forces: Chain Tension and Torque: When the motorcycle accelerates, the engine applies torque to the front sprocket, which is transferred via the chain to the rear sprocket. This torque creates a pulling force (tension) on the top part of the chain as it pulls the rear wheel forward, causing it to rotate. Resulting Rotational Forces: As the rear wheel rotates under the influence of this torque, a reaction force is generated in the opposite direction of the wheel's rotation. This is due to the principle of equal and opposite reactions as described by Newton's Third Law. If the spindle nut were placed on the left side (same side as the chain drive), the rotational forces and the tension in the chain could potentially cause the nut to loosen over time. Here's why: Rotational Direction: The rear wheel rotates clockwise when viewed from the right side of the motorcycle (assuming forward motion). This clockwise rotation means that if the spindle nut is on the left side, the rotational force could apply a counterclockwise (loosening) force on the nut due to the direct interaction between the forces of rotation and the threading direction of most nuts (which are usually right-hand threaded). Chain Tension Influence: Chain tension also plays a role. As the chain pulls on the rear sprocket during acceleration, it can induce a slight twisting force on the axle. This twist can exert additional loosening pressure on the spindle nut if it is on the left side, aligning with the direction that would loosen a standard right-hand thread nut. By fitting the spindle nut on the right-hand side of the motorcycle (opposite the chain drive), the rotational forces act in a way that helps secure the nut rather than loosen it: Securing Effect: The rear wheel's clockwise rotation (when viewed from the right) would exert a clockwise force on a right-side nut. Since most spindle nuts use right-hand threads (tightening clockwise), this force works in favor of keeping the nut tight. Mitigating Loosening Forces: With the nut on the right, the potential loosening forces generated by chain tension and rotational dynamics are significantly reduced. The force applied to the nut now acts in the same direction as tightening, thus enhancing the nut's security. I hope this has cleared it up for ya..

      @@kevinansell9341 the forces you’re describing would need to be transferred by the axle to the nut, for this to happen there would need to be something wrong with your bearings🙄

      @@bikerantics5001 You either didn't read my last or didn't understand Torque and resulting counter rotational forces generated, I think your hung up on Wheel Bearings seizing before counter rotational forces can act on the Nut..Nope nowt to do with seized bearings, I've dumbed it down as best I can in the above, Gogle Newtons 3rd Law.

    • @bikerantics5001
      @bikerantics5001 4 дні тому

      Okay, lets try one more time🙄. You’re not actually describing how the rotational force of the wheel transfer to the nut🤷‍♂️. I could state, quite rightly, that the moon effects the tides but without details of how the process works it’s a fairly empty statement. The same as all your texts, which read more like diatribes🤔, there’s a lot of words but none describe how the rotational forces directly transfer to the nut🤷‍♂️. Please don’t try using Newtons third Law again 🥱. In this application the law is referencing the tyres force on the ground and the ground exerting an equal and opposite force back at the tyre. Please do your research before answering and give a full explanation not just empty paragraphs 🥱🫡.

    If they is a locking pin then the rear axle matters, but most cases nah doesn't matter. I fitted a aftermarket exhaust which made getting a torque wrench to the nut difficult disc side, so I swapped mine over, no problem. Regarding the chain I always do mine on the paddock stand for 2 reasons. I clean it while I am adjusting it and I've noticed I'm rubbish at getting the spec right on the side stand. I much prefer going straight down rather than at an angle. Then again I'm the kinda guy who will happily just change a wheel bearing that has gone rather than changing the set as per the recommendation.

    • @blackdotkiller1
      @blackdotkiller1 9 днів тому

      The whole weight of the bike is being lifted at one spot compressing the suspension however small it is then you fit the chain place the bike back on the floor now the spot that was taking the whole weight of the bike is no longer compressing so it tries to go back to its original place but can't because you have tightened your chain so if you drive it over a big pot hole your suspension will stop at the point at which you have tightened your chain and at that point your chain will stretch because the suspension can't go any further

    • @bikerantics5001

    Lmao, 'affectionately known as Stupid!'. You really are as....'stupid' as me with your humour 😂🤦👍 Love your gaggle of bikes bud, especially the Corona. I've seen one or two with gold wheels. There's one floating around my neck of the woods. I had a K2 GSX-R 600, then a K2 1000 same model. Loved 'em to bits but my old age got the better of me, and I traded the 1000 in for my GSXS 1000. Still haven't managed to get to Dingle Bury Hill yet...🙄🤦

      @@bikerantics5001 I plan on installing crash bars. You should look into that if that interests you as well. It's what those stunt riders have when they toss their bikes around. I want all around protection for my second gen hayabusa. I don't lean over and I mostly go in a straight line lol

      @seahawkgreenblue6085 I think crash bars would ruin the beautiful looks of the Busa, but I totally understand you wanting full protection. Giving the Busa full throttle and charging down a road at full speed is excellent but the twisties is where the real fun is🫡. It’s a bit of a beast to throw around bends but it’s so satisfying when you get it right👌. Whatever you do with it have fun and do it your way🫡🙏.

    See I adjusted the chain on my gen 2 the other day for the first time and only have an ABBA stand so did mine old school on the side stand with wheel in the floor obviously utilising the compression associated with the bike .. My axel nut is on the right side btw ... Adjustment I like to get absolutely spot on but used the markers on the swing arm this time and for a change they are pretty much on the nail... Tightened to spec torque settings of 100nm which to the hand felt spot on also ... New bike to me and the chain and sprockets in top condition so no need to go and empty my beer money jar yet...
