Installing speed engineering traction bars on a 2500hd Silverado, then going to the drag strip!
In this video I notch the frame, build "custom" spring packs with prothane bushings, lower the rear, modify Suspension Engineering traction bars to fit the 2500hd, and then go racing. Also experiment with flipping the carrier bearing for a better pinion angle and swap out the summit racing turbo mufflers for some Flowmaster Flow FX's.

I've replaced the steering rack in our stock 94 looking to chop it up like this, had any steering issues with the bigger tires? Awesome build what tires and rims fit/come off of, if you get a chance ** never mind found your second video thanks!
@@funmechabuilds524 no steering issues so far. The wheels and tires are from a Honda Pioneer 1000, running adapter from 4x114.3 to 4x110. If you have the smaller brake setup you can just run the tires on the stock 12" Geo wheels. The convertibles and 95+ metros have bigger front brakes and 13" wheels.

My 2007 long wheel bass single cab has 109k miles on original engine and trans and all i jad to replace was the coil packs i did all kf them when one went out plugs plug wires oil change every 3000 miles and transmission fluid flush i did last week and didnt habe to but chose to put headers on it as well

I bought a air intake for my hhr but it dont have that vacuum hose on the side like the oem breather does but i see you have a little filter on that is that okay to do
@@BraydonParmley-rw6pg only with a tune or it will set a check engine light.
Could you flip the inlet and outlet so that the exhaust goes into the side that has both the straight pipe and bent pipe, and goes out the side that has only the 1 pipe?
Good video. I know it’s a couple years old but talcum powder is helpful in keeping the liner and the tube from bunching up. It also slides easier.
I have the same year and model and miles and the truck still runs great and sounds just like yours 🤙🏻
Whats the motor noise it makes mine makes a similar sound is it anything to be worried about?
Not bad not bad!
She sounds mean with the new exhaust!
Finally someone who shows how the muffler looks inside
I dont like how it sounds with valve open. Can something be done that the sound is more muffled, when open ?
@@raoulraoul7129 running a better mid muffler would help with the sound.
Such a waste
What size inner tube did you used on 395/85r20. Looking at putting 395/85r20 Good year Mtv tires on my 70 deuce and half.
Great video Joseph, planning on doing the same swap with mine. Any tips on removing the stock fan clutch? Went to start the swap yesterday and the 4 bolts on the fan clutch didn't want to budge. My next plan was to leave the trans in gear to prevent the engine from turning over then trying to remove the fan clutch.
I was hoping you could help me, cause I had matched the aluminum radiator, and the hose and all but wanted to see if you had transmission lines connected into the old radiator? And how you might’ve did that part, please let me know anything would be helpful!
@@jchuggz671 Mine was a manual transmission so there were no transmission lines.
@@josephcarlson1774 I assumed, do you know if the aluminum radiators have a trans cooler on it or would I have to buy a new one?
@@jchuggz671 I would run a separate external transmission cooler. They're fairly cheap and way more efficient than using one in the radiator.
@@josephcarlson1774 yeah I’m probably going to install that to save the troubles! Thank you for responding! I’ll let you know how it goes!
I noticed that too when doing my exhaust lol
I had a 2014 equinox with the 2.4 I wanted to supercharge but got a tacoma instead
A good watch, I enjoyed it and I'm jealous of your shop. You need to stop using worm drive clamps for your radiator hoses though. Go back to the OEM constant pressure clamps and buy the pliers for them.
You still running your exhaust like this?
I ran it for a year like this and sold it. The guy that bought it is running around with the same side exit exhaust.
@josephcarlson1774 I got those 2 bolts out on the back half, going to get rid of muffler and resonator weld in straight pieces so it should be close to what yours sounded like just out the back instead. Thanks for the quick response man 👍👍
i have the areo version of this vehicle i rebuilt the transmission it’s solid asf now nobody ever knows wtf it is haha i wouldn’t mind having a white 5.3 exactly like yours is pretty sweet aeros didn’t come in white
Hi there, I watched your video a few times and I am impressed with how well your conversion came out. You seem pretty mechanically inclined so I thought I would take a shot to see if you could help me out with a question I have. This is about my 09 HHR SS. Can you tell me how to adjust the parking brake? I am about to put new rotors and pads on my car and am pretty sure the parking brake will need adjustment after the installation. My car already has rear disc brakes. I can picture the pb lever will go all the way up with all that new slack on the cable. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
Supercharged and bigger brakes, why no coil overs for suspension or is that next
Did you find that you had to swap out the master cylinder/ proportioning valve, to get the brakes to function correctly, also I didn’t notice in the video, did you install the HD sway bar on the rear?
I looked up the SS master cylinder and proportioning valve and they are the same part number as the HHR, so I just left my stock ones in place. The 07 SS I parted out didn't have any extra sway bar in the rear.
@@josephcarlson1774 thanks for the information
I like the sound and the wheels 🛞 nice little power 🔥 👍👍👍😎😎😎
I watched this I think 3 times Question is the liner from the 9:00 tires or will I need one fro a 395 ? Thanks
Liner from the factory wheel.
First things, first get rid of those hubs.
How does it drive down the highway?
It drove great. 55-60mph was very comfortable and it actually got better mileage with the larger tires since it didn't have overdrive from the factory.
Nice one brother... Did you have to use hub spaces to get clearance for the front brake calipers and if so what ones are you running?
Can you show the lower mount setup please
This is exactly what I was looking for!
I have a 96 RS/Z HB21s as a daily. It'll hold with interstate traffic no issue.
Dis this cam require tuning?
You can run this cam on a factory tune, but you'll get the most out of it with a custom tune.
Did you notice any power gains?
At the factory power level, not really. It vastly improved the exhaust note though. Much deeper and less raspy sound.
Do you think suzuki esteem spindles will fit this car ? Have the same through bolt at the bottom and strut mount
How does it ride? Does 2 rear springs make it handle strange? I been wanting to try coilovers
It rides stiffer as to be expected, but it handled great. I needed it to be stiffer because the stock springs are so soft it would stuff the tire into the fender on the smallest of bumps. The factory springs are super soft.
Did you just cut some springs and lift it? Cv axles still ok? I have one I'm going to lift as well
I posted another video going over the lift setup. CV angles are good, I haven't had a single axle failure.
How did you wire it?
What kind of goofy track are you on?
A drag strip?
