I never understood why authors escalate danger by upping raw power, when there's a million ways to explain that x is stronger than y because of skill. Like you can literally INVENT techniques that make your character fight smarter or make them better at predicting the enemy. Raw power amps should be rare. Not only that, they should be marginal. Like, in Dragonball for example, characters don't gain 5% or 10% extra power between arcs, no, they multiply their power by 500 times, like why???

The smartest option is to just continue with your day abd acknowledge that it's dumb to waste time on characters being stronger

Its generally no issues in the stories i read i mean jojos and gurren lagann are mysome of favorite stories so idc but when stories like certain magical index or other light novels explain powers i just think man idc at this i just know will win somehow

A lot of 4th wall breaks in indie media really do feel like they're just added just because other games did it better honestly. ImScared and Undertale both did it really good, so a lot of others threw it in because... well the popular games did it.. right? Those games didn't invent the trend, but I really think games like OFF (which is older than Undertale) and Oneshot would've been improved, at least a bit, by the removal of the 4th wall breaks.

I disagree in some stuff, the point in planet level destruction is very clear in dbz for example, vegeta came to earth and if goku loses the entire earth goes with him... freeza destroys namek and this drives a good part of the plot of the arc... kid buu destroys the planet when he appears and kills a lot of the main characters, etc... theres a lot of moments where the character being planet level makes a massive difference in the story... It all started with roshi blowing up the moon to make goku destransform from oozaru form. Of course, in other stories a lot of times it doesn't make much differences indeed...

Bocchi can beat Goku Her feats are nothing to scoff at. She was able to turn into Godzilla. Those who know Godzilla lore knows he never loses. She started breaking the matrix in the famous Bocchi glitch scene. Making her an absolutely omniversal threat to even be capable of that. She popped like a balloon. Then came back the next scene. Meaning she can resist existence erasure itself. So hakai is ineffective against Bocchi. Strongest feat of them all. She can turn to dust which inflicts poison to those who breathe it in. We all know Goku is weak to poison types. So now acknowledge Bocchi as your anxious overlord.

Funny enough is that I'm working on a few comic and books that have a Story Bible of how it all works and the biggest take away is this. Its to make it basically impossible for power scalers to even understand and comprehend due to how it works 😂 Its all about the story and not the genuine power they all have. Hell I made Outerversal gods who just destroy a city, because that is how the universe works while making sure 100% of the total energy is hitting the intended target. There is a fuck ton of mathematics that go into it and that i had to write in and explain it. But it is there for those who are trying to do things like this. There is also the fact that sometimes its as written as is on the tin. Charact 1 is only Street level and runs at Mach 5. That is it, that is there limit, few exceptions, but thats it. Character 2 runs at Mach 5, but they have 100% energy efficient cintrol of their body to the subatomic level, so they don't lose all that momentum and thus runs at Mach 300. Same system btw. Also yes, there is a fuck ton of different levels of physics that it goes through. It also goes to spiritual levels as well. Again, it's just for the sake of having a story lol

Powerscalers are also often overlooking feats like "faster than light". Not only do they sometimes apply that label because a character dodged a lightbeam looking attack (which visibly traveled slower than a bullet). But completely ignore the implications of it, while citing the laws of physics pften to make their point A.) Characters look at their opponents movements while if they travel faster than light, light reaches their retinas _slower_ than the attack, and even as an outside observer you'd only have 2 states reaching you. B.) The magnitude of a sonic boom created by breaking the sound barrier to that magnitude would be devastating, that's nothing to do with attack potency, that's just matter moving through a gas at a high speed. C.) At such speeds you'd be reaching time dilation in ridiculous ways.

the timestamps are my thinking throughout this as I went along. Summary to all of this is it is a problem, but not as much with DB, the series you argue against. America is a nuclear Super power than can casual sterilize this planet 10 X time over and has the largest military on earth yet it never used it's full might in any of it's wars post WW2 and even loses some to non nuclear nations.

The inconsistency in powerscaling dated all the way back to the 16th century with Journey to The West, which ironically insipired Dragon Ball. Because honestly, the writers cares more about the story than powerscaling I've seen people glazing the absolute shit out of Wukong these days, but it really wasn't the point. Wukong was shown to constantly needs help from others throughout the journey, even when he fights alone, his brothers help him to achieve a goal because it aligns with the message of the story. "To escape the karmic cycle of samsara, one must accept that they're a part of it and understand their role in the universe." In short: Writing>Powerscaling

Power scaling is inherently stupid. Enjoy the media for what it is without doing post-doctorate math on their 'feats' Dragon Ball is the worst one because they keep scaling up destruction from stuff from the 1980s.

That point about characters using guns is one of the most idiotic complaints I've heard from anti-scalers. Swords are more primitive than guns and I doubt you have a problem with Dante swinging a magical demon blade around but for some reason when he starts blasting you think that's automatically some street-level activity. He didn't buy his guns at Walmart.

This is pretty much my perspective. I have no issues with people spending their time how they want, calculating how strong characters they like are, but often their logic just doesn't follow. For instance I've seen people calculate Perfect Chaos (from Sonic) as able to destroy stars or solar systems because he's powered by the Chaos Emeralds, and they've been used for powering things that can do that. Like sorry no, Perfect Chaos intended to destroy the whole world in his rage, and just flooded one city block, if he was as fast and strong as power scalers say, he would have destroyed the planet within a fraction of a second after getting all the emeralds. They then say that since base Sonic could beat him in Generations, Sonic is even stronger. I'm not doubting that Sonic is strong, but even in his Super Form he's not planet busting levels of power, much less beyond that. I'm reminded of a great explanation in Hunter X Hunter, where Bisky tells Killua that he shouldn't think this way, because Killua was always assuming his opponents were at 100% and if they were stronger than him, then full stop he would lose without trying to think how to turn a battle in his favor. In Bisky's words "this is how cowards think". But the truth is people are rarely at 100%, there are times where a weaker character can and will take down someone stronger than them because they had the right ability, intel, or their opponent just wasn't at their best, or they had a poor ability or bad intel (Ainz in Overlord knows the value of poor intel so much that his entire strategy is feeding it to his opponents to make up for his lackluster build).

I remember when Powerscaling was about hypothetical crossovers between two (or more) characters more than the fight. We didn’t actually care who won or if Character X could destroy multiverses. We just wanted to imagine what would happen if our favorite fictional characters met each other. The internet took the act of playing with your action figures and added math, science, and theoretical physics to it. Then used this pseudoscientific tiering system to try to debate about it with strangers online. No one can even agree on Powerscaling terminology and definitions. I like VS Debates casually because crossovers that will never happen are fun. Then the hardcore debaters came in and ruined everything. It became about winning instead of having fun. They’re like that one friend who try hards at every game night even if you’re playing the most basic casual games.

Tbf this is not really always the fault of power scalers. The authors make these characters absurd, but of course the community has bad apples too. My favorite part of power scaling is trying and understand the lore or weird stuff the characters do, in order to better understand the story. Also authors should power scale or everyone will call them out for it, how many times have you heard that this character should not be able to touch the other but did anyway. However, every powerscaler that claims to be objective or scientific is wrong. Powerscaling is very sudo-scientific as humans we could never comprehend these feats that some characters pull of.

Okay so it boils down to he wants to see more explosions and he doesn't like the excuse of attack potency or key controller just generally have in control over your abilities to not destroy your surroundings as it would definitely make living there not super difficult for the characters that learn these but he did come after some power escalators that use you know attack potency so overall yeah

I mean some chars have more penetrating attacks, let's say that you have character A who got nuked and didn't take a scratch, then character B cuts character A with a sword, his sword has more force behind it than the nuke, but will not do damage in the same area

As someone who likes to power scale I completely agree. Power scalers will completely ignore all logic and context and purely look at stats at their peak. They'd take two characters, one that can throw a punch so fast it can create a bubble as hot as the sun, and another characters who with their strongest punch against a boxing bag, broke their hand and so much as put a hole in the bag; then clearly character one is stronger right...no bc I left out the context that character two is a full grown man and character one is a mantis shrimp...

Ngl I’ve never seen or really hear about power scalers being annoying or wrong at math myself I thought it was just dumb fun cuss duhh a character can’t do that all the time and it was just something the writer thought it was cool

Power scaling isn’t bad it’s those types that give ones like me a bad name narrative power scaling for example works because let’s say a character can lift 5 tons and that is stated by author and bad guy can lift 4 tons it means they are stronger where people go wrong is use implied statements that aren’t even accurate

I feel like powerscaling is important to have internally though. If you make a character sit specifically on some sort of pecking order and have someone above them lose a fight to the weaker character then you have to give a reason why the fight played out that way or you throw the audience’s suspension of disbelief

the existence of "ki control" is actually sorta acknowledged in the super manga moro arc in the moro arc vegeta learns "spirit control" which is basically just a higher level of manipulation over your ki that enhances the power and abilities you can do it with due to this when he tries to fire a small finger beam it turns into an entire energy wave accidently because his blasts are much stronger he didnt limit it enough and when gohan fires a kamehameha downwards the characters worry the planet is going to be destroyed but they are assured its fine because as long as gohan detonates it on the surface the blast wont hit the earth directly so it wont be destroyed so its sort of acknowledged as a real thing in the series it just doesn't have a name like "ki control" that the fans likes to give it idk where people get the idea that its scientificly accurate tho thats just mumbo jumbo

I agree. As someone who's been in and out of the community, powerscalers take it to a comical level of stupidity. The attempts to one-up one another is even more comical, with Naruto powerscalers trying to downplay One Piece characters (to which the world is nonsensical as is) by saying that Kizaru's light isn't real light because it's "destructive." I had to explain to people, more times than I like to count, how light carries momentum. It's no use, honestly. But... unfortunately, I feel like the joke is on you. The fact that you made this video proves that they not only live in your head rent free, but some anonymous discord group is going to hound your every waking moment to debate you. Before I even got sucked into that kind of mess I immediately, and correctly, came to the conclusion that it is _not_ worth it. There is a subset of powerscalers that understand what you're exactly preaching, and you just needlessly attacked an entire population from a high horse - and those guys just do it because it's fun to find out how whacky the authors intend for their characters to be.. The thing about the second amendment, is it was written at a time when government (British government, especially) was considered "the enemy", and it was generally thought that if the government was unjust, it was a citizens duty to revolt. Also, an armed populace is harder for invaders to conquer than an unarmed one. It was all about giving people the power to fight back against the government - something the British could benefit from.
