You can look forward to long trains, steam locomotives, first generation diesels, cool scenery, some 'how to's" or how I do videos, and general layout progression as I continue to work on my railroad empire. I'm sure I'll be posting some real trains along with some comments that will benefit your modeling and operations, I was a Conductor for NS so I know a thing or two. Come back for more videos, be sure to like and subscribe but most of all, leave some comments on what you like or don't like. Thanks, Rob
HO Scale Coal Fork Run Junction kit-bash Project Episode 7
This video is mostly me painting and prepping the parts for final assembly. I painted the interior and exterior of the building so that the lights will not shine through the plastic. I've enlarged the windows to accept the Tichy windows I orders that were supposed to fit but didn't.

John Chase at WWW.whistlestopmodels.com provided me with this really cool crossing tower model to build and review. This model is pretty simple, but some care needs to be taken to ensure you don't break anything. John/Whistlestopmodels has an assortment of HO and N scale models so check out his website. whistlestopmodels.com/

This week's update discusses the future paint and decals for a number of undecorated motors as well as all the work I have accomplished since last Monday's update video. There's also a train running in the background of during most of the videos, there were some issues but not enough to deter me from having them run in future videos.

This week I remove a section of the layout to drop it down for a bridge install, I'm glad I never glued or nailed the plywood down or the foam. I talk about the Virginian mainline and the Hudson coal branch and my ideas that will make this portion of the layout pop as people enter the train room. I also tease a little by showing the warehouse my friend Scott scratch built for me.

Rob's Ramble's Episode 4, "Railfanning in Marion Ohio October 17, 2024
I got NKP 553 myself. I live south of a stretch of old NKP trackage, said stretch is between Lima(Lime-ah), and Saint Marys, Ohio. When ever I go to Lima, I cross it at a small lil' community called Hume. Got into the NKP because of a boxcar that was donated to the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society in August of last year. Said boxcar was a landmark of my lil' town.
@@BattleshipOrion I’ve never been to Lisa but I know it was a huge RR town back in the day. Glad to have another NKP fan watching my videos.
@@hoscalemodeltrains1221 so, I just got my RS3 in today, and I was off on the road number, it's 543, not 553...most detailed engine I've held, EVER. Athearn Genesis needs to catch up(I had an Athearn ES44AC which was my last "high detail" model years ago). I was offered to use(and modify) an old dining table from my mother to use as a future train layout, best part is, the NKP is what I call a "Midwest Railroad"(I class these roads based on where in the US the most track is, my definition of Midwest is South Dakota east to Ohio, and includes all of Lake Michigan), and I have a thing for Midwestern railroads...I guess I just need to pick a season, geological province, and start sourcing images of the local area, and get planning.
Nice size layout. Didn’t realize how much trackage you had. I’ve got some ghosts in my train room as well I’m pretty sure. A fence gate swung open while I was working on the layout. Caught it on film and now I can’t find the video. Weird.
@@HartfordWhaler I have a lot of ghost stories that have occurred in the house. Good talking with you last night.
Great kitbash Rob! Look forward to the finished product. Paul B
@@HartfordWhaler me too. I’ve taken way too much time on this project.
The railroad tunnel and the bridge you talked about around the 12 minute mark is the famous keddie wye on the Union Pacific in California. If you could work that into your railroad, that would be spectacular. Keep up the great work. Thanks Bob

ok Rob me ol turkish robe wearing bean,,,,,we are going to have to leave a camera with microphone working through the night when you go to bed, & then the next day we will have to review it & see what we capture in the train room, Another great layout update mate =]
@@RickyHammond-l2r I’ve thought about putting a camera in there but what if it captures something paranormal? I think I’d freak out. 🤣😂
I know that’s the NCTM I’ve been there before

Wow ! Very cool !
@@daveprasse6643 thanks Dave.
Hot bag of ass- lmao… liposuction that ass and it’ll look sweet when it’s all done. Trouble shooting that short is the smallest stupidest little thing you’ll figure it out quickly. Paranormal I also wonder about that. Strange things.
Ray Brown is definitely talented, that kit bashed loco is something else. I follow him too. Keep up the good work. Here's a hint on tin foil rock molds, crumple up the foil pour in thin plaster let it start to set but still be pliable and stick it to your base wall forming it to the contours let it set up then remove the foil. Don't know if it works with sculpture mould, haven't tried that but it works great with plaster of paris. Just wet down the base so it doesn't suck all the moisture out of the plaster.
@@kevinindieart611 thanks. I’ll give it a try.
I’m a new viewer. The algorithm suggested your video to me that blew up recently. I’ve heard other creators make comments similar to yours about not understanding how the algorithm works. What I have heard successful creators say is that it’s all about the grind. Keep putting videos out on a regular basis and your channel will grow.
@@timwaycaster7538 if that’s the case. Then I’m doing it all right. Thanks for watching.
you doing some great work Rob...a GSB idea 😜area under the bridge...small pond with a hunting cabin, outhouse and dirt/gravel access road along with all the trees you mentioned...the other tunnel under there is a good idea...one of the lost screws could be causing a short somewhere now...don't recall if you have a personal name for your RR, if so, paint that diesel and decal it for your personal road...
@@georgiasunbelt great ideas my friend.
Nice update and stories. Great rock work really ups the realism of a layout. There are so many products on the market to make this happen that there's no excuse. My favorite statement from this video is, "To live the dream you have to have the nightmare". I have to use that one. I used to make videos and be concerned about viewership. When it didn't do well it would discourage me. Now when I make them, I do it for my own enjoyment. Years down the road I will go back and watch my videos as entertainment and a testament to my accomplishments. If I get a positive comment or subscriber out of it, that's a bonus.
@@luvindemtrains you have the right mindset and I love that original quote too. 🤣😂🤣 thanks for watching.
Great Video Rob! Model Railroading is a Learning curve anyway! Love your Videos I would make that C425 into a shortline for something different! Kevin
@@kba3039 thanks Kevin. Hope you’re feeling better. If you’re interested, I have a wall for you to paint a mountain scene on.
I use 1156 light bulbs for circuit breakers on the layout so if a train derails it shows me that there's a short. Every 12 ft would be a light bulb and I was wondering if your house was like an old funeral house?
@@FostoriaOhiomodelrailroadclub circuit breakers are in the future for my layout. The old lady that lived here died in the house 8 years ago this month. Coincidents?
Came upon your channel a few weeks ago. Nice job! As far as your spirit goes no worries! Be glad you don't walk into your train room and find a locomotive crashed onto the floor or something of that nature! Been thinking of starting up my own channel for my layout. Only thing holding me back is video editing process as me and computers don't get along well sometimes. Great work and keep em coming!
@@mattprobst2321 thanks for watching Matt, glad to have you aboard. Video editing is a lot easier than you think, I do all my editing on my phone with an app so start your channel and I’ll subscribe.
Thanks we'll see if I can at least get a rudimentary start soon. What app do you use? @hoscalemodeltrains1221
As usual, great video Rob! As you know, my layout is not too big, but I still have the occasional mornings when I have a short when I power it up. For me, it's usually because I laid some metal object on the track when I was done working the day before. I always loved the Pennsy RS11s, so if it was me I would paint and letter them PRR mid-1960s, with the small numbers. There are so many things that I want to say when I watch your videos, but by the time they are over I usually forget. One thing for sure, I believe that you do have the largest private layout in North Carolina. My buddy's layout is huge, but his room is only about 1000 square feet. 😊
@@johnlazar7582 I always look forward to your comments, you can always call or text as your advice is sound and proven. Thank you for all your support.
@@hoscalemodeltrains1221 Will do Rob!
In the foreground of the mine with 3 tracks is a depressed area in the foam. consider an abandoned rail line leading to the abandoned trestle in the cut where your pate girder bridge is installed. This would give credence to the new line and solve the, what the heck do I do with the depressed area at the layout's edge question.
@@MosriteCharlie you always have great ideas that make me think outside the box. Thank you.
The abandoned trestle idea is good. Consider moving it forward of the new plate girder bridge to suggest a route change to higher ground because the old line was washed out by a flash flood.
@@MosriteCharlie great idea.
Largest model railroad s quite an accomplishment. I am now 77 and both my children have no interest in my modest 15 x 18 layout which I am told will become a cash cow when I am gone. You have quite a few collectables that perhaps you want to make known what you would like done with them when you are gone. No one likes to think about it but face it, you have a lot of hard work put into this and it should be preserved somehow. Tis is really amazing Rob.
Reading your comment seems like I wrote it. I'm 79 and my layout is 14 X 18. So I'm in the same boat 😅.
@@MosriteCharlie we have discussed it a few times and my middle son threw a fit when he heard me tell my wife to donate portions of the cars and locomotives to museums with HO layouts. So my son will get it all.
nice video ty 4 the share check track that you not accidently set a pair plyers on the track some where * Happy Rails *
@@harleymemphis9190 I actually found the problem but it took a while. I’ll discuss it in next Sunday’s video.
Years ago I read an article on how stratified rock was modeled with ceiling tile. I think that a straight edge was used to make a freehand break, and the tiles were stacked one on top of the other. That might work where the mine lead break is on the back side of the break. By the way…I totally enjoy your videos. Keep ‘em’ coming.😎
@@davidhenderson9859 that’s a great idea and thank you for enduring my nonsensical ramblings. 🤣😂🤣
