    I really enjoy your adventures. Can I ask how you would manage the constant need to grind credits to pay for mortgages and space travel if you wanted to include those items? Try as I might, I just can't find a good, engaging way to make it part of the game without making it the entire game.

    • @MrBunraku
      @MrBunraku 2 місяці тому

      I'm glad you're liking the adventures! I'm going to guess you're talking about managing the constant need for cash during solo play? I'd handle it one of two ways. First way would be to just have it be a series of dice rolls on the tables in whatever Classic Traveller rules you're using (LBB's, Starter Set, Traveller Book, etc). Then the adventure happens from rumors or patrons during the "downtime" between cargo runs. The other would be to incorporate the constant need for cash as the springboard for adventure. That's sorta making it the entire game, but I think the constant need for credits is one of the motivating factors to get involved in adventures. Maybe there's a planet that's suddenly struck it rich and the inhabitants are paying big money for some luxury. There's this old man and some kid who need transport to a core world with no Imperial entanglements. Maybe pirates attack while your transporting something seemingly mundane. You're transporting goods and passengers when an Imperial ship hails you and tells you to stop for inspection. One of the passengers draws a gun and tells you to power up your engines and flee! If you're not playing a merchant game and just need passage, most Travellers have skills that a ship needs making them potential crew. They can sign on willingly or wake up on a ship after a few too many the night before. Did that answer your question?

    • @grit9938
      @grit9938 2 місяці тому

      @MrBunraku it's certainly great info and I've considered doing a shipless run to see how it goes! Let me clarify my question. What I mean is because of the time it takes for jump travel and just adventures in general, I have a hard time balancing payouts versus how quickly debt builds. Part of my issue is I've never been able to play this with a group (let alone a referee) so I don't know how to balance all of this. It just doesn't have the popularity as that OTHER ttrpg, and even less for solo, so you're playthrough has been a true blessing! I'm using mongoose 2e, but fundamentally they're all the same at the core I think.

    What a great find! I was also a fan of Traveller in the 80's. I only had the Book 0 introduction & could not find the others at the time. (in the UK) Eventually I got MegaTraveller box when it came out. BTW, Drivethru RPG have this book on re-print, They also have a PDF of "classic facsimile traveller" for free & it includes errata - that might be useful to you because it applies to The Traveller Book too.

      @MrBunraku 3 місяці тому

      Yes, I got that pdf awhile ago and quite often feel like I should use it. The POD version isn't too expensive, so I can foresee getting that at some point and possibly transitioning from the Traveller Book to the Facsimile Edition.

    Great video and appreciate it! A tip for the Names chart (around 20:55) is to use the results as inspiration, not literal. Think of them as sound guides, not actual words. Then, when you roll "Yu" you won't be stuck with yet another Chinese Gou'auld! :)

    8:06 this is one of the things I struggle with the most in Mythic and to a certain degree it’s been fixed in the second edition. Sometimes closing a thread can happen too soon and you have to ignore the roll.

    I don't know much (if anything) about Cepheus rule modifications but you prefer that to the Universal Task Profile that DGP created for Classic? That's what I always used anyway. The simplicity of knowing what a roll needed to be for a stated difficulty, then modified by skill and relevant attribute (modifier, not the base number ) just made roleplaying so much simpler.

    • @MrBunraku
      @MrBunraku 4 місяці тому

      I was unfamiliar with that until you called it to my attention! Cepheus system does something similar, in that it gives some benchmarks of what an easy roll should be, a moderate roll should be, a hard roll, etc. It also reminds me of the 68A rule I found online years ago.

    • @davidriddell194
      @davidriddell194 4 місяці тому

      Then I did something good to repay your amazing videos, so that's a good thing. I recall 68A, never used it as the Universal Task Profile did what I needed for writing adventures. I was so happy to "know" that a routine task needed a 7 rather than trying to intuitive what was a fair success threshold. Anyway, loved the Anselm Chaos this episode. Can't wait to see where you are taken on the next legs of the adventure.

    I hadn't heard of this. I enjoy random content generators, and cards have a visual element to them that dice rolls lack. I'm not sure I would really use this much though just due to the real estate it would take up on the table. I'm interested in seeing this get used in your Traveller playthrough.

    I would suggest that, instead of discarding something you don't like, reinterpret it to something similar. For instance, the cloud could be an apparition or ghost. This can make for very off the beaten path ideas.

    I can very much see the potential background you randomly drew. I'd say the Ruins were of a town that had a catastrophe a century ago, and the graveyard is reserved for the citizens of the town and the descendants of those that escaped. I'd also say the Silent Church may have been founded by an old man that blamed himself for the town's destruction, by some crime he committed, and when he was in the desert, he heard the songs of the insects living out there. He believes these are the cries of those who didn't make it out, so he demands silence in his church, so the voices of the dead can be respected.
