I have a passion for Historic cars from the 40's 50's and 60's. Since purchasing my 1967 Mk 1MGB I've spent many hours refurbishing and replacing parts on the car that I think will make her look and also drive better. I have a collection of videos here that I hope can be of interest or indeed help others who are attempting the same repairs or restorations.
I also have a passion for restoring old tools and machines back to somewhere close if not better than new. I'm currently restoring a 1962 Myford Super 7 lathe which was given to me. This will be a long process, I'll post more videos as I progress.
I have been flying model Aeroplanes for 35 years and have competed in F3a Aerobatics competitions for last 10 years. I may post future related videos.

Hi and how much is the torque of this head in Nm
Hi the Torque setting for the cylinder head bolts is 25 to 27 Nm. You can find this info at 9mins and 25sec into the video. Cheers
and one more question, I have the same engine and I can feel the play in the crankshaft when I pull the flywheel up and down, is this normal?@@albabmg
Brilliant thanks so much 👍
I fell asleep 5 minutes into it. You didn't need to show every second of loosening a clamp. That could have been a 10 min. video.
Thank you for your time making & sharing your videos & experiences. I have the same year model as you & found these very helpful & informative, I am also located in Sydney & would love to chat one day & share experiences. You have given me the confidence to take on these significant restorations & continue to learn about maintaining these awesome little machines. Cheers to you !
Glad the videos are helpful. None of the upgrades are too challenging, great little cars to work on so simple. Love driving mine as long as it's not 35-40deg.😎. Happy to chat. Cheers
Thanks for your help I have the same motor
I have enjoyed your series of MGB videos. I am presently doing mine, and have found them very helpful. Could I please ask you which type and gloss of paint you used on your renovated parts. Thanks
Hi Glad you are enjoying the videos. I used ordinary gloss black enamel from my local hardware store. If you are painting brake callipers you will need to use a high temperature paint. Hope this helps.
😊
Thanks for the video. Best one I've found for the 15hp on YT. Cheers.
Glad the video was helpful. Thanks for your positive comments. Cheers
Thank you for this video.
Glad it was helpful! Cheers
Well done, thanks for sharing with us. I have just acquired my first MGB, a 1971. I’m enjoying working with it.
Thanks for your comment. Good luck with your MGB. Great little cars. Cheers
what year is that motor
Its a 2007 model. Cheers
Just did a rebuild on my 67 gt, thanks for the vid
Glad you found the videos helpful. Cheers
Hi! Do you know how i can find a jet assambley to buy?
They have rebuild kits for sale that include the jet assembly I beliebe
Man, finally someone that takes the time to show us the break down of each component. Thank you so much. I have learned a lot from your videos. You have a great day.
I really appreciate your comments. Glad the videos help. Cheers
Your title says a "THERMOSTAT" replacement. So I wasted 19 minutes to find out there is absolutely nothing about a thermostat!
It takes a lot of time and effort to make these videos so that I can help other people with the same issues as myself. I am sorry if the title is misleading to you. You can find the thermostat replacement procedure in part 2 of the video within the second chapter which begins at 1min and 20 seconds. Cheers. ua-cam.com/video/EVc6e8Ro56U/v-deo.html&ab_channel=BMG
@@albabmg Thank you for your reply. I do understand that you make these videos to help people but you also make them for the same reason everybody does, to attract views and subscribers for you to make a profit. As you should if you're providing something beneficial, which you are. But there are way too many videos that mislead people by claiming on the title something that isnt in the video and in this case your title is definitely misleading. Sure in part 2 there is, then again why is there a part 2 when it could all be in one video. If I had the same engine and year etc which I dont its probably a useful video but its annoying when you're looking for something specific and you spend the time looking for it based on the title and its not there. Maybe you should update the title or combine the two parts. I appreciate your reply.
@@bongo042 Thanks again for your input. I think naming the videos parts 1 and 2 is pretty clear and reasonable. If you make these videos too long people tend not to watch. I make these videos purely because I enjoy it and like to help others. I have never made any financial gain from my videos nor do I intend to. My channel is not monetised. I thank you again for your comments and hope that you did indeed eventually find the information useful. Cheers
Hi, I'm rebuilding my 1968 MGBGT. Could you tell me what colour red your roadster is painted, great colour. Thank you
The colour of my car is “Flame Red” Cheers
I see you have (finally) correctly reversed the two connecting linkages for throttle and choke.
Apologies - I've just noticed your comment from months ago.. Yes I did swap the likages. Much easier now to tickle the throttle from within the engine compartment. Cheers.
The two sets of linkage are reversed. The one you have at the front should be at the back or engine side and is the throttle shaft. The linkage you have at the back is the choke linkage and should be at the front or wing /fender side.
Correct. I completed the linkage fix when I last worked on the carbs. Cheers
Front turn signal/parking lamps on backwards. I ,too, restored the 3 blade fan on my 1963 B.. then I put it in a box on the shelf and installed a plastic, yellow, seven blade fan. No more fear of the three blade dislodging and going through the bonnet. Equally important, and the original objective, much improved cooling and less noise and lower weight.
I’ve seen many conflicting photos on the internet regarding the turn/park lamps. I decided to leave as is as this is how it was installed when I bought the car. I suspect your comment is correct though. Also so far I have had no overheating problems. Cheers.
I don’t know how you’d expect to tune the Carbs without checking Valve clearance, Ignition Timing and Vacuum condition first? Did you move the Gunsons tool to the other bank of Plugs to tune the other Carb?
That's a yes to all of your questions. Cheers
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to create the video. I have a 72 MGB that I started the restoration project on and redoing both the front and rear suspensions need to be done. Do you think that dropping the front subframe would have made the job easier or harder?
Hi Steven Thanks for your comments. I found the job to be fairly straight forward. Make sure that you support the lower spring pan/wishbone arms when removing the springs. If there are no issues with the front cross member I would leave it where it is. (definitely a bigger job to remove it) Hope this helps. Cheers.
@@albabmg thanks for your reply and appreciate your opinion. Happy motoring!

Good job! Compliments.
Did you ever find out why engine was shaking so much?
I solved the problem in parts 2 & 3. I found several vacuum leaks at the inlet manifold.

I'm just now building mine. Does the shortest of the 4 control arms go to the elevator or the rudder?
I lost this aeroplane a few years ago so unfortunately I cant remember the control arrangement for elevator rudder. Hope you are enjoying your Vanquish. Fantastic aeroplane. Cheers
amazing rebuild. how do you achieve the airfoil curve?
I've just noticed your comments. Apologise for very late reply. I was able to use my friends Vanquish take take measurements and copy anything else that needed replaced. Cheers
Hi, nice restoration may I ask the make and type of paint you used.
Here in Australia I am using "White Knight" Epoxy Enamel Top Coat. The colour is "Machinery Grey" Gloss. After etch priming and High build primer I finish with 240 grit then 3 coats of the Machinery Grey Epoxy Enamel. I also add a 2K Hardener to the Machinery Grey Enamel. I purchase the 2K Hardener from my local auto paint spray supplier and add at the stated amounts shown on the instructions. Hope this helps. Cheers
Thank you for the details about the shift linkage. Two questions: 1) did the drive shaft carry an o-ring in the upper part, near the middle of the splines section? 2) why did you work with the motor in vertical position? Is there any specific reason for not tilting it?
Hi There was no 'O' ring on the shaft splines. I coated the splines with Marine grease prior to re installation. Working in the vertical position was easier for me as the weight of the gear case aided in removal. Hope this helps. Cheers
@@albabmg thanks much!
Hi This is a brilliant video, it brings back many memories for me. I bought one just like this same colour, and with wire wheels in 1972. It cost me new £1550 On the road. I've been trying to find it ever since. Like 18. (I've subbed). John
Thanks for your comments John. Always wanted an MGB since my late teens. Finally managed to purchase this one about 6 years ago. Cheers
May I ask what product you used for stripping the paint? Thx!
I use paint stripper. It usually comes in a gel. You can purchase the paint stripper from any Hardware or Paint store. Cheers
gr8 video dude - sincere thx - really enjoyed it - cracking car (v clean) - I have a 74 and love it (Its a keeper for sure) but suspect all the bushings are going to need done near term - your video is exactly what I need - detailed blow-by-blow with helpful comments - also, like me, you seem to have moved from Scotland as the weather at your home does not look like 23 December anywhere in Scotland.... :o)
Glad the videos are Helpful. I've lived in Sydney since 1979. Good luck with your 74.
Replacing the head gasket on a Tohatsu 9.8, in researching head gasket sealants I came across some strong recommendations, NOT to use copper based sealants as they will corrode the aluminum block and head surfaces. This is consistent with NOT using copper based anti fouling on aluminum sail drives. Wondering if that was a manufacturer recommendation or something you just added?
I read various articles and watched several videos regarding gasket sealants and decided that I would use one. I guess its an individual choice. I have had no problems so far. I cant remember if the manufacturer recommended a sealant or not. Cheers
OMC/BRP manual for 9.9 / 15 hp says to apply a thin coat of gasket sealant to both sides of the head gasket. Doesn’t mention anything about coating head cover screws. Regards
@@danielrobert7181 Thx for the info. FWIW, my son and I got the gasket installed and the motor working. He forgot a small O ring on the fuel pump which caused fuel to leak but once got that sorted out a pretty simple repair/ rebuild.
Nice and clean outboard 👍
I've owned the outboard since new. I try to keep it as clean as I can. Cheers

did you disconnect the cross linkages?

What a pretty motor. Definitely need to repaint mine lol
Good tip! I’m doing this rebuild now, I probably would have made the same mistake if not for this video.
Glad the video has been helpful. Cheers

Thanks for your comment. Glad the video is helpfull. Cheers
I love how you are doing this in your dressing gown! It’s me!! So keen I don’t even have time to get dressed first!
Ha Ha I wasn't even aware that I had my "Goony" on until I was editing the videos. I just go to the garage whenever I feel like doing a bit of resto work. Whatever I'm wearing goes with me. Cheers
Thank you for this content. I have the same motor but a 9.9hp but going to trying to upgrade it to a 15hp. Do you have a video showing how to adjust the carb? No money to take to the shop so im stuck doing my own work. Please upload more videoz on this motor.
I no longer own this boat and motor. Great little outboard. Unfortunately I can't post any more related videos. Cheers
Great looking car. My MGB is A 68. I also have a white 71 and are full restored. Outstanding video and presentation.
Thanks for your kind words. I'm sure you enjoy your cars as much as I enjoy mine. Cheers
What paint color did you use on the cover and heater?
Not sure which cover you are referring to, but the heater was painted silver by the previous owner. I am considering repainting the heater box back to the original black. Cheers
@@albabmg The pedal box cover.
@@aggiebq86 Both the pedal box cover and the air filter boxes have a chrome finish. Both were on the car when I purchased it. Cheers
Good idea to give a quick rev before every reading. I have the exact model and year (opposite orientation). I enjoy your videos.
From watching lots of UA-cam stuff on tuning MGs the general order for best results seems to be tappets, timing then finally carbs. I have adopted this approach with my BGT and I’m getting good results.
I agree. Now that I have fixed my vacuum leaks I am going to start the process all over again. Cheers
