Help Me Make Season 02!!
Wrong Side Of The Lens GoFundMe page:
www.gofundme.com/f/fund-WSOTL-season-02
Hello. My name is Josh Ethan Johnson. I'm the creator of Wrong Side Of The Lens and need your help!
It's been amazing to see how quickly things have grown since the launch of Season 01 just a few short months back. Now, we're ready to do it all again and tell the next season of stories of deserving artists. I can't do it alone anymore and need any and all help you can give. I'm asking for this impressive community to join forces with me to fund this endeavor.
Here's where we're at;
Since its launch only a few months back, you’ve shown immense support and for that I’m forever grateful. The moment it went live, you instantly binge every available second of Season 01 then shared with those you knew would appreciate it. You wrote me countless personal stories about how these films helped you in your personal and creative endeavors. You asked me to take the film on the road and premiere internationally. I said “Sure. Why not?!” and with two weeks to plan the tour, you all jumped into action mode to help. You formed effective, city-based committees to ensure we filled seats to capacity and that we did! You booked my travel, found sponsors to fund theater rentals and gave me places to stay all while rolling out the red carpets. And all on your personal dime. All I had to do was go where my phone told me and when I arrived at each premiere, I was greeted by a warm room to the max with a hyper engaged audience helping facilitate the exact conversations I find important to progress this thing called public “street” photography.
It’s been an absolutely amazing few months and it’s time to say thanks to the community. The reaction and outreach made one thing very obvious which is I need to find a way to keep this going and tell more of these stories. I aim to grow the WSOTL and keep showing the world the importance of photography through the eyes of altruistic artists, one film at a time. However, in order to do so, I need a new type of help. Funding!!
Up until now, WSOTL, has been self funded and produced. I was able to make all of Season 01 alone with my modest equipment and personal resources. Friends lent me their fantastic music which I wouldn’t be able to afford otherwise. Making these 5 hours of content was done out of my love for photography and the joys of filmmaking. The result of being a solo band of one, however, creates a very long timeline from start to completion; aka 5 years to be exact. In order for Season 02 to not take another half a decade, we’ve got to do one single thing; staff the F up!
The vision I have for Season 02 is BIG!! It’s much grander in scope than I can personally afford. There’s pre-producers, cinematographers, producers, and a team of editors who can do justice to these incredible yet to be told stories. There are talented photographers everywhere, needing their stories told, tucked into corners of the world and I am to sniff them out and lend them this platform we’ve built together, you and I. The traveling, day rates, musicians, and time required to see this vision through all take an amount of resources I don’t have. Collectively, like stone soup, we can pitch in and help tell these deserving stories!
Until then, I’ll do what I can on a shoestring budget, a little at a time. I am going to Saudi Arabia to film a special episode with juicy details to come. While this will inevitably turn out well, it will not be in the ideal production level I wish to take Season 02. Like always, however, I will do my best and I am sure to get something well worth sharing.
By donating here, you will be an INTEGRAL part of this next chapter of Wrong Side Of The Lens. Any amount is greatly appreciated and does help. If giving money is not an option for you, please share this page with someone who may be in that position and appreciates quality art.
Thank you and here’s to Season 02!!!
Josh Ethan Johnson

    Man, I had this video saved on WATCH LATER for quite some time, and I just just watched it, finally. WOW ! First and foremost, great video man..Can't wait to check out the rest. SUBSCRIBED for this alone. I got the chance to meet Estevan, when I was a teen...as I was running around in high school, just doing street promotions.. But I was working for a group called Psycho Realm, and they were under / in that Cypress Hill family.. But I got to meet Estevan back then at the Key Club. I didn't meet him again until years later, while I was working for a film production company, working for a few directors and writing music video treatments.. Estevan was one of the directors signed to the company (HSI), and every now and then they'd pay me to take a quick call with him, or review some notes via email, listen to the song, and turn in a treatment. Pretty cool back then, I was just trying to pay my dues...and he was cool AF also. I see him out every now and then at events or things in LA, and I've always been sure to tell him how much of an inspiration he was for us growing up. Culture, music, the city, images.. He really set the tone for a LOT of us coming up on the coast, and he still does til' this day. One of the greats, a legend indeed, he deserves everything ! What he has done is incredible.

      Thanks for the message and support here! More to come. Estevan, as it sounds like you already know, is a genuine guy. He's out there in the mix, making art, hustling up some honest work and advocating for communities who need it. Keep giving him a pat on the back when you run into him because it does mean a lot to hear from those who you've helped.

    You deserve all the support ! The Jill Freedmand episode nearly brought me to tears. She reminds me so much of my grandma, whom I just learned that she was also into film photography. I won’t go into the whole story, just want to say thank you ! So glad I just found your channel ❤️‍🔥

    love watching these I like when you freeze frame so we can see the actual image taken In the future could you add the photogs gear. I'm always curious what is being used out there

      Thx for watching and glad you like it. I don't include photos gear usually since many of these photographers either are MORE than happy if you reach out and dork out on gear with them and then there are some that don't want everyone to know their hard earned trade secrets. :) most are the former in my experience.

    If people want to shoot like this, i mean, that's on them and some photographers are phenomenal with this approach (Martin Parr, although he's much more thoughtful and steady) but when people are dismissive of those who question their approach, and then respond with "yeah,"and laugh and scoff at them, that's just disrespectful. It's really unnecessary.
