i cant believe I watched this entire video. Super dense with information. I'll be searching for a home in Portland is about a year. My wife and I are coming to visit in just a few months as well.
@@sandman589 it’s a long one haha, hope you found some helpful info in there somewhere
#1 Portland area is too expensive for working people.
My BF is from Florida. Hes sick of.sun & Humidity
Is it more conservative there?
Compared to Portland? I've seen voting data that suggests yes.
It’s really not bad at all
The statistic that Tigard and tualatin are safer than only 10% of cities surprises me… I’ve lived around this area for a long time and it’s an incredibly safe area even for a suburb. Great place for a family and kids to hang outside, many don’t lock their doors. I believe this crime statistic comes from the many many small towns in rural America where crime is virtually non existent. I really think that as far as suburbs go these are some of the safest middle class neighborhoods around.
@@matthewm1163 completely agree, I think it’s pretty skewed by comparing it to places that aren’t comparable
The weather is a huge part of the reason I moved here. I hate sunlight, heat, and snow and love mountains, moving water, and temperate rainforests. 😂
Argay Terrace best Mid Century, nice neighborhood. No woke shit either. You're correct, it does feel separate from Portland. In 2025 that's a great thing!
Oh my god! Stop with the bouncing in and out! Totally unwatchable.
Cesspools. I'd move there if it wasn't for that.
Thank you for the video. Much appreciated! Considering the move.
Since you asked: My favorite spots in the Pearl are Life of Riley (featured in the drive-by streetcar footage) and the Low Brow Lounge; also, I love taking the streetcar from my neighborhood in the Alphabet District to the Farmers' Market at PSU (every time I get on the streetcar I feel like I've taken a mini-vacation to Prague). I have lived in the Alphabet for just over seven years and love its walkability and the local businesses.
Life of Riley is great. Been too long since I've visited. Thanks for sharing.
My wife and I make $120 thousand per year. We live in a one bedroom apartment $1300 per month
In Portland?
I grew up in the Columbia Villa 1971-1988. I never wanted to move back to Portland. I carry bear spray every where I go. I do have a license to carry something bigger, but I like softer protection for myself.
Don’t worry, Trump will clean all that up. The liberals are on their way out and their ideas.
To be blunt, South and Southwest Portland are the best part of town.
Kieth sounds like a hopeful addition to the city! Where are you walking around? The buildings and area looks beautiful!
@@AbsalonWhiteJr. He is hopeful because he's a realtor in Portland.
It looks like the South Waterfront….
South Waterfront
Well being Homeless isn't exactly a world of happiness! I have an income of $1400 a month. Please show me a rental with a working toilet and no black mold. Yes a little extreme but many live this way because of slumlords Affordable housing would help!! You seem like a nice gentleman but you don't exactly know what you're talking about in regards to the homeless. Please stop assuming about Homeless and maybe hear their stories..
With minimum wage @ $15.40/hr in PDX, why are you not able to earn more? You seem literate enough to work any number of jobs. $15.40/hr after taxes is about $2,300/mo if it's full time. If your income is that low, you'd still qualify for SNAP, Section 8, etc.
Thanks for watching and sharing. My only thoughts ( I think I conveyed in this video) are that homelessness is a multi faceted problem and shelter is not the only solution.
You should've said major changes for Portland coming in 2025, not 2024. Keith Wilson will take office in January 2025
The incoming mayor Keith Wilson will change that perception many people have about Portland. outgoing mayor Ted Wheeler did his best, in my opinion.
Good commentary on the state of things in Portland, thank you.
Thanks for watching
Layers of BULLSIT!!! It's easy-addicts need rehab first. Once they are ok, SUPPORT not assistance to get a job or a place but handing someone a home that can't control an impulse is adding gasoline to the fire.
You didn't even mention that snowy Mt Hood is just an hour away where kids can go sledding, tubing, skiing, snow boarding or snow shoeing.
@@LR2894h and did a big facepalm after I published it haha
anywhere you live in portland you can walk to 2 reastraunts a 2 bar and a strip club
Chicago transplant. Originally moved to Eugene five years ago. Then left and traveled the country for three years and ended up moving back to Oregon landing in PDX. Yes, it's not perfect. No city is. But its perfect enough for me, and the landscape and layout is beautiful. And love the art culture here. PDX is home
hi, how's been your experience dealing with traffic in Portland. I understand in peak rush time it can be challenging, but does it stay congested most times of the day in all directions?
Lived in Gladstone as a child in the 60's. Good memories. ❤
Great place to grow up. Lots of my family was there in the 60's. Small town now - tiny then. I'm sure we have connections
@livinginoregon I lived at the dead end of Exeter St. Big field behind the house and a Dairy Queen up the small hill directly off of McLoughlin Hwy ( Blvd ). Do you have a video on Oregon City ? Born in Oregon City and went to high school there when we moved across the river. Next to the old trussel bridge that crossed the Clackamas River. A Craftsman Bungalow design built in 1911. Gorgeous house the craftsmanship inside and outside incredible and riverfront property ! Great way to grow up. Thanks for your time making the videos ! You and your family have a wonderful New Year 🥂
I live in the NW side. I love Portland.
woah nice houses (ı live in turkey)
I've been looking at Oregon over California, I live in Seattle and from the East originally
I just moved to Portland six months ago from New England, and one thing that I can say about Portland is that people here are very introverted and cliquey
I just moved to Portland six months ago from NY, and two things I can say about Portland people in here are extremely introverted and so cliquey.
Great info!
I know people are moving from there in masses. The population comes mostly from those who can’t saved to move. This video is very bias. I love when people are HONEST and not make places what they are not. This is why before moving anywhere take a test drive, because you don’t want to get stuck in a place you have come to hate.
I think we were trying to convey to people that the weather is, at best, not great, that the urban center has a ton of problems, and that it's an expensive place to live. Also that there isn't a vibrant urban center and the culture isn't very diverse. I am extremely biased because 1) I was born and raised here and this is my home and 2) I am economically incentivized to help people move here However, we really try to do more to warn people about the downsides than we do to convince them to move here.
Also, the population did grow slightly in the last 12 months.
Humans ruin the beauty of nature.
I've been in downtown Portland twice in the last month. It was clean, peaceful and hopping. Portland definitely had problems a few years ago but she's making big strides in her upswing. Businesses do need to bring employees back to the offices (at least 50/50) for the health of restaurants, shops and big businesses. So important for the health of our big cities.
I agree the market will be meh. Construction will likely get more expensive, keeping down inventory. Lots of people are still hanging out at 3 percent. Insurance is one of the biggest problems right now.
Meh is a good way of putting it
It already crashed, the value of our money declined by the amounts the home price went up. Looking at a house down the road, that’s really not that great, was $600k in 16, sold in 22 for for $1.6 now trying to sell for $2 mil. Did the house become 3 times more valuable? 8 years older, no major renovations. Or did our purchasing power decrease by 3 times?
Homes have roughly doubled in value from the past 10 years.
@ did they become more valuable or did our money lose that much in purchasing power?
@@theruraloregonian1802 More valuable. It's a unique time. Coming off of the 07-08 crash, homes did not rebound until 2012. It wasn't until about 2016 that homes got back to where they were pre crash in 2006. Coupled with lock downs in 2020 which spawned a greater sentiment for ownership, have values have gone up significantly over the past 10 years. I don't expect nearly the same growth over the next ten years due to affordability.
Wait 62k CAD is 43k USD.
Meant to say 62k USD (if that's not what I said)
Your assessment that negativity always does better than positivity is false. They both succeed, but in different directions at different times. Right now, people are viewing the negative content because it reflects what they believe outside of the video. Portland is a dump these days, watching a "10 reasons why Portland is awesome" butts up against people's own perception, thus they don't wan to watch. If you made that same video in 2014, you'd get more views.
Indeed there are metrics on these things (I'm not guessing). We have found the same to be true in every town. Every year.
Don't simply retire from something; have something to retire to. Start saving, keep saving, and stick to investments. Everyone should have BTC in their portfolio🌲.
It’s really heartbreaking to see how inflation and recession impact low-income families. The cost of living keeps rising, and many struggle just to meet basic needs, let alone save or invest. It’s a reminder of the importance of finding ways to create financial opportunities. You've helped me a lot sir Robert! Imagine i invested $50,000 and received $190,500 after 14 days
Absolutely! Profits are possible, especially now, but complex transactions should be handled by experienced market professionals.
Some persons think inves'tin is all about buying stocks; I think going into the stock market without a good experience is a big risk, that's why I'm lucky to have seen someone like mr Robert L Cox.
Finding yourself a good broker is as same as finding a good wife, which you go less stress, you get just enough with so much little effort at things
Cox demonstrates an excellent understanding of market trends, making well informed decisions that leads to consistent profit
How is the economy in Portland? What percentage of income cost tfor owners. Who is hiring?
Overall pretty good if you count the suburbs where companies such as Nike and Intel are. Commercial vacancy remains very high downtown. Portland probably won't be very competitive nationally but as of April 2024, first-time homebuyers in Portland needed an income of about $130,715 per year to afford a median-priced starter home priced at $401,840, assuming a 3.5% down payment and a 7% interest rate. This translates to spending around 30% of their income on housing payments. Regarding jobs: Allied Universal is hiring for security positions. They have specific roles for Veterans and are looking for Security Officers. Sunnyside Shower Project is seeking a full-time Project Director. Alzheimer's Association is hiring a Fundraising Director for the Walk to End Alzheimer's event in Portland. Metro offers a variety of jobs including roles at Metro's parks, the Oregon Zoo, the Oregon Convention Center, Portland’5 Centers for the Arts, and Portland Expo Center. They are looking for people with diverse backgrounds for positions like park rangers, planners, cartographers, recycling specialists, accountants, theater ushers, and administrative assistants. Healthcare and Social Services: Physicians Choice Home Health is expanding its team of healthcare professionals with a focus on home health services in the Portland metro area. Cascadia Health is hiring Mental Health Aides across Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington Counties. Technology and Startups: There are numerous tech jobs in Portland, with companies like Apple hiring for roles in semiconductor design, system-on-chip engineers, and AI expertise. Retail and Customer Service: Conduent is recruiting for Call Center and Customer Service positions with flexible hours and training provided. Metro Presort is hiring for roles in print operations and marketing mail services. Hospitality and Entertainment: KEX Hotel is looking for Room and Laundry Attendants. Hilton Garden Inn Portland Airport under Giri Hotel Management is hiring for various roles including gardeners and catering staff. Transportation: Greater Portland Metro is hiring bus drivers and operations management for their transit services. General Labor and Warehouse: Amazon continues to hire for positions like warehouse associates, technical project managers, and more. IKEA in Portland is seeking Warehouse Associates for early morning shifts.
@@livinginoregon You are a great resouce. Great reply.
I applaud this detailed, comprehensive breakdown of Portland neighborhoods. As a native, it's interesting to hear an objective overview of what has been my stomping grounds for a number of decades. Funny.. east county is definitely like a wholenother city. It doesn't hold a candle to the inner city. Thank God I was born and raised in the heart of Oregon's "Rome".
Nobody can afford to live here
Canby hands down..
total Eastsider - not that there's anything wrong with that
golden gate park is larger than central park
In this video, Portland looks dead. I see almost nobody walking the streets. The buildings look mostly empty. At least the guy was honest about Portland having the highest vacancy rate of all of the major cities in America. Terrible political leadership has ruined the city, and turned it into a hellhole for the foreseeable future. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs.
I hate Portland. The radicals destroyed it and especially the downtown area the last several years.
It’s not doing well since a lot of businesses moved out of Portland want to increase our taxes.
I see very few people walking the streets in this video. 🤔
@@georgehenderson7783 it’s 9 30 a.m. on a Thursday morning, but, downtown is usually pretty dead. There are a couple of places adjacent to downtown, like Northwest District and the Pearl District, that you would expect to see more people out and about any time of day. Hope that helps.
