I'm amazed that I haven't seen the Hart Hoist more often. Not everyone can get or rent heavy equipment on site. Just the cost of fuel alone to get some heavy equipment on site is prohibitive.
It doesn't take significantly longer for a stick-built shell to be constructed. A simple rectangle would take just a couple days.
So they don't install it for you? Steel building companies not only deliver the materials, but also construct the whole thing for about the same price. That's pretty chinsy of Hansen.
congrats, nice building to diy
Hi all. We DEMAND a new video, showing the place in use!
Why does UA-cam put this stupid music on your videos! I have to mute then unmute and I miss your constant dialogue.
I put the stupid music in lol 😆
How is it coming along? Miss seeing updates.
Hi! We are actually mostly finished and have been living here since Christmas just trying to find some time to make a couple videos
@@HartandHome Awe, yay!!! Can't wait to see the updates. That is so exciting!!
Why have you not posted finished barndominium?
just haven't had time. life has been so crazy and for the first time in years we have a small amount of free time and need to heal lol.
Nice and congrats! 🎉
thanks!
Thanks for the video. Youve convinced me that im better off just designing and getting my own materials. Might take longer, but i dont think I'll run into the same problems with windows and a few other things. After watching probably a few hundred hours of videos like yours, there isnt a company out there that gets it close enough to justify buying a kit. I can count and run a tape and save 60%. It blows me away the mark up these companies put on stuff the source locally. Nice build
Glad we were able to help you come to a decision on your own build!
Agreed. I think there would be advantages of sourcing my own materials - mostly cost savings - but also I could get what I want on my own schedule not have truckloads of stuff delivered before I need it. Having never built a 30x40 building before I'm admittedly intimidated. Seems for me having the Hansen build book would be helpful though probably not absolutely necessary. In Benton County WA we need engineered design to build a post frame structure regardless of it's intended use. So, that will be an expense regardless. I imagine there are local sources who will provide engineered drawings for a price.
Wow, my wife and i have been having similar thoughts recently. We have 3 kids (ages 4, 2, and 3 months) and live in a city in a historic home. I work as a civil engineer and my wife stays at home with our kids. It's really encouraging to see other people accomplish becoming debt free and living your dream.
Do you think the spash planks could be supported but driving a steak in the ground and nailing them to it every few feet?
Yes that will definitely help. Our ground is full of rocks so it’s hard for us to do those properly . Hardest issue for me was how little post I had to connect them to especially around doorways. Mine was only an issue that way because my posts sit on brackets.
I really appricieate this video and I will be coming back to it taking notes. I plan on doing this in the next year and I will be solo.
Glad you found it useful! My tip to you would be go as small as you can and design your building so you can expand it over time!
Hows it holding up
It’s been a pretty rough go tbh. We have run into a lot of difficulty and our county is being unreasonable about some things. The project is close to getting done but we’re in the thick of it. Building is still doing great though
55k for a diy pole barn that takes 9 months is ridiculous. Where I live I can get a metal building installed in a week for about the same
Perhaps but it probably won’t be engineered and we’re also out of the crazy supply shortage now to.
@@HartandHome is it 55k including the foundation or is it just for the diy kit?
@@LunaDaSavageprob just the kit. 8 yrs ago did 40x60x16 kit was 22k
Keep it up! I'm right behind you with my build.
Nice! Let us know how it goes!
I'm finally about to start my roof. Re-watching all your videos to pick up the little tips!
The house is looking good! The floor looks great and can't wait to see the next video!! Praying that everything goes smoothly for yall to finish the house on time! ❤🙏🙂
thanks SP! these last couple weeks have been insane. will probably do another update here soon. things are moving at lightning speed with the builder now.

@@HartandHome we are doing good. Just working hard!!
@@softpaws1774 glad to hear it!
Can you give me a design on how you lifted your truss bays? I’m about to do the same thing
yep did a whole video on it . ua-cam.com/video/UwnFHNoSsLc/v-deo.html I'd recommend browsing the whole backlog and seeing if any videos might help inform any decisions you are making. we have made lots of mistakes and tried to post them on here as frequently as I could.
good work
thank you!
I looked for a video showing the after but couldn't find anything.
yeah everything kinda hit a bump in the road after moving onto the property. didn't have power at first so i couldn't make videos. then ended up having to go back to work so updates will be slower now.
Are you going to finish it? I would love to see it
that's the plan. I had to go back to work because it was taking too long and materials were becoming too expensive. Right now were in the middle of finding funding to hire the rest of it out. Lots of fun DIY projects to come after that though.
One thing to add from my end is if the grid hook up seemed high in your situation look at going solar/wind with a battery system. We saved over 10k just in hook up without even considering the long term financial advantages.
I don’t think we could on this build. We have a ton of future plans that have some high energy draw that would have sent the system cost into space. There was also some timing issues with it all. But generally I like the centiment
@@HartandHome I get that. I have had to add on a little every year to my system. Eventually I will be able to run the entire shop without stressing over power draw. I hope lol.
Glad to hear from you!! Congratulations on a son!!! I'm sure you have prayed thru this and know you aren't alone to face these decisions. I was a very young child while my mom stayed at home and dad worked for Santa Fe Railroad. They built their home with mom meeting him at the build every night and all day Saturday. No Work on Sunday, worship and rest. Take a look at Break Heart Orchard. They did the same. What ever you both decide to do, well done. Prayers for you both, the fam and keep that dream alive.
Thanks Mark! We appreciate the support. We feel like we have the nicest community on here and we love hearing from you guys. Not the most entertaining decision but we gotta finish this thing so we can move on with everything else. Will be more project focused after that. Gotta build some kind of garage out here, a lean to off of my office / shed to do a workshop in, landscaping, and eventually sometime down the road another much larger out building.
Admire your perseverance bro! You guys got this.
thanks my dude
So happy to see an update, we were really worried about you. Congratulations on your baby boy. 💛🍀 Stay positive - you’ll get it done eventually. Step by step. Many blessings 🙋🏻♀️
Thanks Kerstin! Sorry to worry! We feel at peace that God is gonna take care of us through all the insanity.
@@HartandHome 🙏🏻🍀
I was, wondering how it was going. We’re a year into a renovation instead of the Brando and we’re way over budget. I feel you. Just get it done and move forward. You can get back to square one just like you did before. Rooting for you! Congratulations on the baby!
Thank you Sarah! what a wild couple years it's been. feels a little better knowing were not the only ones getting taken for a ride through difficult times.
@@HartandHome we couldn’t have anticipated the price influx on building materials and decided to roll with the punches. We’re blessed! We all are in good health and we have food to eat and a place to lay our heads at night. God is good! And you have a new baby! 🥹♥️ It all doesn’t have to be finished in one day. Given that, our youngest is almost 17. ♥️🙏🏼
@@smason3541 Amen to that!
Congratulations on baby boy, you guys!! Life happens...we really get that. Lol You guys are doing an awesome job of rolling with it. Can't wait to see what this year has in store for you guys.
Thanks! it's been awesome and wild for sure. Were excited and nervous for the year as well.
Both of you are so great! A wonderful couple. My son is planning on doing the same thing. So I’m sending him your video so thank you 🙏
Thanks Lois that’s very kind of you to say. Good luck to your son
I love the clav beat thrown in at the end of the first song. that was so unnecessary but added so much to the progression
So informative! Thanks for sharing! ❤
Glad it helped
Congrats on the new addition. Give us a few minute updates sometime soon!
Thanks he is just about here now
Did you pay a general contractor? Or were you two your own contractor?
We were our own general. Everything has changed since then though. Should be back into construction in spring
Are you guys coming back to finish up your build?
Hey mike I’ve actually had to go back to work. Material and labor prices beat us down pretty hard and everything had to change. Going to be hiring out most of the rest in the spring. Will likely post an update then
@@HartandHome that’s too bad. Glad to hear you are doing ok. Materials and pricing has me a bit spooked with our build coming up this spring also. Prices have come down considerably since COVID hit but labor is really crazy.
Have you heard of any red steel building with traditional stick frame 2 story inside? Is that still called a barndo?
In my book it is. Most discrepancies revolve around the ratio of shop to house but I say do whatever makes you happy
Next video soon?
probably get one out here in the next few weeks when i get some time to film and edit. Things have changed quite a lot.
@@HartandHome Good to hear. I just moved and will be building one myself soon.
WOW! I called and left numerous email and voicemail and no one answered! So upsetting!
might just need to give them a little bit of time as they are a smaller company. Good luck!
Looking to build myself! Literally myself! Torn between the post frame and stick built home. Very interested in the pillar footing plate mounted pole style, but a few concerns. Covering the pole footings for 1 and 2 without the concrete cracking from a potential weak or settling that may take place. The other is how to build wind strength or shear strength into the building, without having many interior walls to help with that.
I was also thinking of doing a board n batten upper exterior, with a split rock lower. I'm concerned that I may not get my wish with the engineers doing the paperwork.
Good luck out there! hard time to build a house as we are learning.
Don't ever think there's nothing to film. A little time lapse and explanation gets views. Never underestimate what people will watch 😁. Enjoying the content.
Thanks Benjamin! we will have another update here soon. there is a lot more going on behind the scenes
Last I priced it was 3k for septic and 1k for a well and $7 per sq ft for a slab. I cant believe these prices!!! Great job on the vid and thx for sharing. Just hope you didnt over pay.
im sure we did but given our situation it made sense. rock drilling aint cheap :/
Nice job presenting the $ basics of this project....♡☆♡ KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK ♡☆♡
Thanks Ann!
Great information. Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm a bit split between building a barndo or going the traditional way of building. After spending hundreds of hours viewing videos about barndos and meeting with a builder that specializes in this area, the bottom line is that you can go dirt cheap if you want to or if you have the usual average needs and wants as most traditional and experienced homeowners expect, then on average, there is no cost savings building a barndomindium vs a traditional stick house or doing an ICF. It's an individual personal taste; if one wants to go very economical (expect not to see much appreciation in the value of your barndo) compared to spending more and not going cheap on kitchen, cabinetry, spray foam insulation, a well laid out practical and fully functional interior and architectural design, replacing the traditional cheap plastic "house wrap" with more expensive exterior water and air barriers such as zip system, etc. (which increases the house value exponentially and saves on energy consumption), I would rather go with the more expensive option to ensure future return of my investment for resale value. Another factor to consider is with most relationships where typically one party is more knowledgeable than the other in these matters of the construction process, there will always be a disconnect as one party usually is not up to speed on why certain building process and methods have to be applied and would cost more upfront but will save you more money on a long term basis or is more efficient and practical. This puts a tremendous strain in a relationship. I see it and hear it oftentimes from both angles. For example, and I'm being extreme here in this illustration: one party wants Delta faucets costing $700.00 for each bathroom (let's say typically 5) and the other party scoffs at spending $3,500.00 for upgrading electrical infrastructure to 12 gauge wiring 20 amps circuit breakers. That's when arguements break out and both parties not being able to compromise or willing to relinquish wants from needs. In this case, I would want to spend $3,500.00 in upgrading the electrical. I told my wife that for the sake of our marriage, I won't build a barndomindium. 😂😂
yep most savings come from being able to do a bunch of the work yourself with a barndo. glad you figured out what was right for you guys!
Answer: Twice as much as it used to. Because they can.
fo real
I appreciate that you have that disclaimer. I’m trying to get the average price without all that. Trying to decide if stick build or Barno build is the way to go.
really depends on how much you plan on doing yourself. Or if you want big open spaces in your house. If you are hiring it all out and dont want a super mega great room id just go for whatever style your prefered contractor is used to.
I love the videos you guys post cause its just real freaking LIFE! And It’s crazy, but adventurous and God definitely has a sense of humor!
