Chopping corn and filling silo 2023
Chopping organically grown 85 or 86 day corn for the Phoenix Farm. No herbicides or pesticides used. Only fertilizer used was dry manure the previous fall and 9900 gallons per acre of liquid manure before planting.
We were hired to plant and chop. This is the first time a silo has been used on this farm for silage in 15 years. 20x40 Harvestore with a Hercules unloader. In the process of getting the other 20x70 revamped.
John Deere 8300, the new holland 900 chopper, and wagons were ours.

Spreading liquid manure on the home farm. As I explain in the video, I’m exchanging the chopping of “Uncle Nate’s” corn for some liquid manure on 23 acres of our new farms hay fields. Feel free to listen to my rambling or skip to the good parts. Thanks for watching!

Was May 29 Memorial Day not the 28th like I said in the video. We sure could use some rain! Thanks for watching and enjoy Dad’s improving videography skills 😂

Nice looking 1466
What size round baler? Did you have any issues with hydraulics?
Silage is dry
Pulled a disc many miles with 1466
Converted mine to a single 12 volt battery, starts way easier even at 20 degrees
What size exhaust you running?
A lot of sparrows died in the driving shed from cancer breathing in all that smoke when I used to start our 756 in the winter LOL a good block heater and throw the battery charger on it a few hours before you wanted to use it, they would always start
The red tractors are awesome 👌
Is that ,14 yours
Why is it so dry? The silage
We couldn’t get into the field till it froze. We had 17” of rain between September and then. We tried one time and got absolutely buried
Back on the dairy farm use a super m in a 600 blower on 70 ft silo
That had to be a sight! Slow and steady
I am from Pennsylvania farmer I was wondering since that corn is died off and dry like that dk you put it into. Tmr mixer cause it not green anymore
Howdy! Seems to be alright cows like it and are milking well on it. Not ideal but we couldn’t get in the field
Appears to be a beautiful farm operation. Love all the older red tractors. All the barns, silos, etc. Has to be a lot of fun in spite of all the hard work.
It’s a really pretty operation! Very nice to work back and forth with them. All the IHs have a ton of hours on them. Thanks for watching!
Nice line-up of tractors 👍. Them old 806's sure move in road gear
Thank you! And thanks for watching! They are good ole work horses. Crazy how fast they go with 34” rubber.. mine aren’t painted up like these but they run just as nice!
Nice bunch of international tractors
Thank you! It’s fun to watch them keep motoring on year after year. Paid for themselves over and over.
Love the natural corn like that. Nothing but manure and time
It’s very cool how well it grew especially this being the first time trying it. My corn at home is sprayed and fertilized cause I don’t have enough cattle to use just manure. But I’m glad these guys are able to pull it off!
hello sir I'm a new subscriber and thought I'd take a look at your video and I liked it , I love watching them old RED tractors work , it's much better than watching the new stuff all the time , I don't farm any more , but back in the 70's and 80's that's was what we used
Howdy! Thanks for stopping by! Glad I could bring some entertainment! I do enjoy running older tractors. My favorite we have has to be the 856. Very nice all around tractor. I love them all but for sure the most comfortable is the 8300.
👍👍👍👍👍
Retired dairy producer now in CA. It is missed ( a little). Stay safe. The secret to organic is ready access to and liberal use of livestock. Yea Haa!
Howdy from Wisconsin! Thanks for tuning in! You got it though, have to manage things properly! Thanks for watching!
Sweet rides you have there.
Thank you! Only the 8300 Is ours, but we work closely back and forth with this farm.
That corn is way to dry to make "proper ensilage". I guess the cows will eat it anyway. Better than nothing.
Garbage in garbage out
@@twicepaidfor8248 yep! Just like us!
Wow lot of waste
Thank you! We try!
Was wondering if there is any nutritional value to the corn stalks that are that dried out? I know that there is in the what my grandfather who farmed in South Dakota called dent corn, in the mix? He just picked it with a M and two row corn picker McCormick and plowed it under later. I produce horse hay in Snohomish Washington using a 966, Hydro 70, 656 hydro, SMTA and a 400. They all have there job to do.
It seemed like this stuff was gonna be too dry. But the variety that was selected was a slow dry down variety so it held moisture extremely well. Fermented nicely. Our corn at home was drier yet and still turned out nice in the bag. Very cool on the line up of rigs! We don’t have any letter tractors anymore. Smallest one we have is an 806 now and that might go down the road too.
Thank you for your video Sir.I grew up on a Minnesota dairy farm in the 60’s@ 70’s good looking equipment and color. Stay safe.
Thank you for watching! Happy to share videos when I can. Hopefully you can have some good memories recalled to mind!
It’s still GMO… corn…. Nothing organic about GMO
alseed.com/product/organic-085rm-blue-river-21l90-seed-corn/
The CO-OP that the milk is sold to allows for us to plant this corn. Just not allowed to use commercial fertilizer or herbicide
Do you still dairy?
Yep this farm is still milking around 90 cows. They are like family, and we help each other out.
Very cool
@@johnoncken1757 thank you! It’s fun to help and be apart of 1 of only 5 left in our county. Thanks for watching!
Worked dairy farms back in the 60s filling silo was my favorite time guy I worked for had Gehl equipment white tractors was nice to see this thank you from London ont.
Corn. Silage stored in a. Himoisture unit harvesters. What
Yes. Stored in an HMC unit. The unloader has been changed to a Hercules and it works good.
Do you still have a dairy?
I’m in Minnesota and have grown my corn (35) acres the same way for 6 seasons now and haven’t had any problems yet,, producing 3 corn cribs(16 ft round each) full.,,,getting it all done with a 856, have a great day
That’s awesome! Yeah definitely cool that it worked this year. Our corn at home is fertilized and sprayed. We don’t have enough manure to do this. Sounds like a good yield and gotta love a good ole 856!
Some nice tractors.
Thank you sir! They try to keep them up nicely. All have very high hours too. Thanks for watching!
Nice 856
Thanks! We like it!
What does a machine like this cost ? Brand new
Mid to Upper $80s. Depending on how you order it.
The 806 was my dads main tillage tractor on our 400+ acre farm when i was a kid. It had duals and a cab. I loved that tractor. The 806 is my favorite tractor to this day. A lot of memories.
They are a good ole work horse that’s for sure! Glad some memories could be stirred up. So cool how these were “big” tractors back In their day. Definitely appreciate how tough they were built, and how much they’ll do for 100 horse.
My family farmed with an IH856 with the MW Turbo, awesome tractor!
That’s awesome! Hopefully this brought some good memories back! They are quite a stout rig. Happy to have ours.
Nice tedding rig! Can't beat buying land next door. Is that baler new?
I definitely enjoy tedding with this versus the M 😂 so happy we had the opportunity to score the neighboring farm. Baler is a 2020! We bought it new that January. Thank you for watching!
Dream truck man I'm working my ass off to get one and I hope I will
Keep hustling and you’ll get there! They’re getting harder and harder to come by but a few nice clean ones are floating around
@@amniconvalleyangus I pray I will. I'm working 2 jobs and going to school
Some nice looking grass! I used to cut a lot of hay with a 469. That's a nice 856.
For pasture hay I was quite pleasantly surprised! They seem to be like tough ole machines. Couple of the neighbors have had them for years and years and they just keep going. I’m so happy we got our hands on this one. Super cool it was only 20 miles from us too.
Were you guys down in hay volume this year? That looked like some tall grass.
For sure down from a normal year with moisture, but definitely up from last year and the year before. Just have been playing it safe and cutting what we can, also bought 250 bales so we should have enough. How about over your way?
@@amniconvalleyangushalf last years tonnage, but 2022 was a record high bale count. We have enough carryover to get us through winter hopefully. 250 bales is a big chunk of cash.
@@Rollinghillsfarmsmn wow really half!? That’s terrible! And it was opposite for us! Last year was the worst bale count we’ve ever had. It wasn’t cheap to buy the hay, but it was a good deal and we wanted to make sure we made the winter with plenty! Hopefully you guys can make it too. If you ever get a chance to wrap hay, it’s so very worth it.
If it's mudi dont go in it!!
I was getting around fine till that spot!
Can't go wrong with liquid manure!
I can’t believe how much it greened the field up already! Super curious to see what it does next year! Thanks for watching!
Wow, Charlie's truck go way up there. Good fertilizer
Only guy left doing it semi close to us. Donny Wohlk I guess is done spreading that’s who did it before. Should make a difference, would like to get a better solid spreader for our own manure. Have thought about building some sort of manure storage, but not sure how that’d work with all the bedding hay.
@@amniconvalleyangus Its hard for a lot of these guys to get drivers. My neighbor has 5 or 6 trucks and he runs with Apple Valley and a few other outfits as needed. Busy time of year for those crews!
@@LVFFarmVlogs yep there’s such a shortage of help it’s crazy. I know we can hardly find people at work. But nows the time to go for these guys! Thanks again for watching
Brings back lots of memories. Dad had a 1967 806 diesel on our potato farm. I loved that ol' tractor. Spent a lot of time working it. Love the look and the sound.
I think wish this one was a 65 or later! Be easier to get injection pump parts but I hear ya, they have a nice sound, and are really awesome looking and working tractors. Pack a lot of punch for a “small” tractor nowadays
What’s the price tag on something like that?
I think they are over $80k now
Big job on front end. I have to do same on my Oliver 1755.
Was time consuming for sure! Are you still able to get parts through Lulich or tractor parts ASAP? Figure Oliver and WFE parts are getting hard to come by
I bet that front end is nice now, we completely rebuilt our 966 front end a few years ago. That 1066 should purr like a kitten now.
Did you happen to do tie rods too?? That’s about all I have left. But makes a huge difference! Did you guys buy your 966 new? And I’m having trouble with the 10 already.. seems like there’s air in the fuel
@@amniconvalleyangus we did everything. Wheel bearings, tie rods, bushings.... somewhere around a grand stuck into it. We bought it 20 years ago. I think it had 5600 hours on it then. Maybe you have to loosen fuel lines and tighten them up again. Unless it's the pump?
@@pinesedgefarm1155 wow.. yeah it wasn’t cheap for what I did, but I can imagine how it can add up real quick when you do the whole thing. Nice you guys have had it for that long. You know it’s a good tractor to make it 20 years after it was already 20+ years old. I’ve been playing with it, pump should be fine but who knows. I’m gonna replace that rubber fuel line between the filters and the pump. It’ll be 50 years old next year and I guess they collapse internally
Congratulations !!
Thank you! Lots of work has went into this tractor already. I’ll have an update posted in a bit!
Just ordered mine 289d3
Nice machine
Thank you! Very cool, they are sweet machines. Definitely worth the investment. Wish I could have one at both farms 😂
nice tractor well done
Thank you! And thanks for watching!
Nice outfit. Sweet tractor. Great idea for filling your boxes. Is this silage or will you combine the corn?
Thank you very much! Love the tractor. Got that concrete hopper in a package deal and man it’s been handy! This is all gonna he silage corn. I’d like to try some grain corn next year if I can pickup a little more ground. Thanks for watching!
A good skid steer, i got a 2022. I've put 4,000 hours on it with no problems. A really comfortable machine
That’s a ton of hours! Nice rigs for sure tho. Happy they come with a backup camera cause that’s my only gripe is the visibility out of the rear
