Fun fact: During this scene, a light rigger by the name of Seamus MacLunkey was climbing a ladder. One of the legs broke and MacLunkey began to fall. Paul Blake (playing Greedo) tried to warn him shouting "MacLunkey!", to which Harrison Ford shot and killed Blake for no apparent reason

Isn't the 1977 version the best? It could easily be misinterpreted for a split second by children that the alien shot Han, not that they would know who he is, just enough that he looks like an awesome dude, and all it takes is seconds to like Harrison Fordobellundo in a movie role.

Uh yes, Return Of The Jedi is on the same level of quality as Rise Of Skywalker. Truly a smart critique

Slow down the 1977 cut. There’s two explosions, one at Han and one at Greedo. I didn’t want to believe it, but Greedo shot first and missed.

Next version, just have Greedo shoot himself and save Han the trouble.

It makes no sense for Greedo to miss a shot from 2 feet away of a person he’s LITERALLY pointing a gun at. Han had to shoot first or die. Idk why George Lucas ever thought changing that was a good idea

I've posted this elsewhere. Not sure why, but I dug out my old copy of the 1976 paperback, 'Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker'. It's credited to "George Lucas" all over it, but ghost written by Alan Dean Foster. The cantina shooting scene takes place between pages 104 and 105. It plays out pretty close to what we all saw in the movie... "Over my dead body," Solo said unamiably. The alien was not impressed. "If you insist. Will you come outside with me, or must I finish it here?" "I don't think they'd like another killing in here," Solo pointed out. Something which might have been a laugh came from the creature's translator. "They'd hardly notice. Get up, Solo. I've been looking forward to this for a long time. You've embarrassed me in front of Jabba with your pious excuses for the last time." "I think you're right." Light and noise filled the little corner of the cantina, and when it had faded, all that remained of the unctuous alien was a smoking, slimy spot on the stone floor. Solo brought his hand and the smoking weapon it held out from beneath the table, drawing bemused stares from several of the cantina patrons and clucking sounds from its more knowledgeable ones. They had known the creature had committed its fatal mistake in allowing Solo the chance to get his hands under cover. "It'll take a lot more than the likes of you to finish me off. Jabba the Hut always did skimp when it came to hiring his hands." Leaving the booth, Solo flipped the bartender a handful of coins as he and Chewbacca moved off. "Sorry for the mess. I always was a rotten host." ...in this version, Chewbacca is still present. Han and Chewie are seated while Greedo remains standing. The important bit is that Greedo wants Han to stand up and go outside with him, so he can finish him off without witnesses. But, Han shoots him first.

This is Star Wars. NOT Warhammer 40K and y'all don't have the guts to go the length that 40K did.

I remember seeing an image of George Lucas holding a sign saying GREEDO SHOT FIRST, and you can clearly see in the later versions that Greedo did indeed shoot first, but people obnoxiouisly favor the original despite it being more low-quality than the later versions

In 2030 they edit it again where after the "MACLUNKY..." they engage in a 5 minute Family Guy chicken fight scene where they go around beating the shit out of each other in Mos Eisley only to end up back in the Cantina for Han to shoot Greedo.

I heard in the 2040 version this scene is entirely removed

2 versions show that Greedo clearly shot first but he missed, so to end the 40 going on 50 year long argument, Greedo shot first

The whole arguement about Greedo shooting first is old at this point but I want to know why George Lucas settled with Greedo's shot bouncing off the wall. Was he not able to get someone to add cgi so there's a blaster impact on the the wall even after having this scene edited multiple times? I could be wrong but isn't this the only time a blastshot bounces in the movies besides when they're in the trash compactor which used special materials? This is just a normal wall, the blaster shot bouncing doesn't make sense.

what I find so funny is they feel they needed to spend this much time redoing this scene when all they had to do was leave it alone. None of the re-edits work and the one at the end where they added a line to greedo at the end makes it look even more ridiculous.

I think it would have made more sense to make it even more obvious with a cut that Greedo held him at gunpoint, so Han shooting first was still sekf defence but Greedo just didn't expect him to have the balls to actually kill. Greedo missing point blank makes him just seem supremely incompetent.

25:43 It's entirely possible Luke saw the events that would happen in Jabba's Palace in ROTJ, seeing into the future and predicting it *accurately* seems to be a Skywalker Family trait, Anakin was able to Pod Race because of it & could predict his opponents moves before they happened, like Qui-Gon said, he could see his Mother's & Padmé's deaths, Luke saw the Torture of his friends on Bespin while he was training on Dagobah before it happened, & Leia was able to see that Ben would turn to the Dark Side & stopped her Jedi Training, and Luke also looked into the future while probing Ben's mind while Ben was possibly dreaming of that future Luke Saw. Yeah I don't like the Sequels, but they cemented the fact that Skywalker's at least are so powerful in the force that they can look into the future & see the events that are most likely to play out very clearly, other Jedi like Yoda can do this too, but they aren't as naturally gifted in the force as the Skywalkers so the future isn't as clear to them as it seems to be for the Skywalkers. So based on the current canon, yeah it's entirely plausible Luke saw the events in Jabba's palace & Barge as the most likely scenario that would play out, yes the future is always in motion, but the Skywalker's seem to be able to predict it pretty accurately compared to other force users.

Eh, despite this scene being dumb, at least Ahsoka is the main protagonist in the show and not one of the Nazi antagonists that literally died at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark by the hands of a bunch angry vengeful Jewish ghosts coming out of the Ark of the Covenant due to premature curiosity reasons in the movie.

This is why I don't relate to any of these characters having tempur tantrums on-screen. None of them were causing tempur tantrums due to being emotionally traumatized by their psychotic parents at all recently and having been diagnosed with autism!! 😂😂🤣🤣
