Buffy the Italian Cree Indian. 😂
beautiful version of color with pertr on the banjo
For a teacher, Pete Seeger was a heavenly singer.
I am a pilgrim and a stranger Traveling through this wearisome land And I’ve got a home in that yonder city, good Lord And it’s not (good Lordy it’s not) not made by hand I got a mother, a sister and a brother Who have gone to that sweet home And I am determined to go and see them, good Lord Over on (good Lordy over on) that distant shore As I go down to that river Jordan Just to bathe my weary soul If I could touch but just the hem of His garment, good Lord I believe (good Lordy I believe) that it would make me whole Now when I’m dead, laying in my coffin All of my friends all gather round They can say that he’s just laying there sleeping, good Lord Sweet peace (Lordy sweet peace) his soul is found
I watched this as a small child with my great.grandma, in canada ❤
Lost world of giants and songs.
Everything about this is just wonderful .June is such a sweetheart. John is high out of his mind but still as brilliant as ever. Pete, of course, is Pete as always. Such a crucial piece of History and it's amazing that it was documented. We are so lucky to live in a time where we have easy access to videos like this.
We need this now. Everyone get together and live in peace.
This is beautiful. I didn't know Pete Seeger made instruments!
47:54 - "Tom Dooley"
First melody by Pete Seeger i believe is the inspiration for Bob Dylan's "Farewell Angelina"
Yes, the song is Wagoner's Lad. The same melody was used for the Scots whaling song Farewell to Tarwathie, again before Dylan's song. Alex Campbell's version - ua-cam.com/video/oI-L4aHlADk/v-deo.html - is very close to Dylan's treatment, and he could well have heard Alex sing it in London in the early 60s. Covered by Judy Collins among others.
Lens rendition of solidarity tune is gold. I love what he sung, and for the harper fairy raid no less
Those 60s pep pills hit different.
Neither Peter La Farge or Johnny Cash were actually of Native American decent.
AFAIK it was JR’s grandmother who would espouse the “Native American descent” narrative. Later it was found that JR had roots in Africa and Scotland
Awesome❤
Welcome immigrants that are coming LEGALLY
God, Mimi and Richard were great musicians. Wow! 60 years later and it still holds up.
I like Alan Lomax description of Bluegrass. I always said Bluegrass was Old Time on steroids!
Jonny looks to be just skin and bones.
All the Mississippi John Hurt fans out there need to watch this. Good on Pete for getting him on the show, and good on you, youtuber, for uploading. Thank you.
This is priceless
Those boys are in the presence of musical genius, and are gobsmacked, and rightly so. Pete is just Pete and strums along, but meantime the Rev is in a different world of awesomness leaving us spellbound. Praise God!!!
This is beautiful
Pete Seeger is my hero. R.I.P. Pete
She does not apologize because she is not guilty. Adoption records were frequently falsified on both Boston and elsewhere in the US. It takes a court order to open them . False birth certificates were common and replaced the names of birth parents with those of adoptive parents, one or both.
This is wonderful, thank you so much for uploading it for us.
Never saw this dance flavored episode before! I wonder whether Pete ever included squaredancers, New England contradancers or Appalachian flatfooters on the program? Brother Mike Seeger and dance-ethnographer Ruth Pershing did their "Talking Feet" flatfooting & clogging documentary more than a decade later... now at Smithsonian folkways.
This is pure gold!!
So sorry that this show only ran for less than 2 dozen episodes, as every one is a treasure of homespun music history. June Carter was so humble, respectful & sweet. And, if not for her, Johnny would probably have drank himself to death long before he actually died.
far out so this guy woody is where buzz got his idea for his album "this machine kills artists". attention span is a teacher.
this was a real revelation for me when i watch it the first time. Totally underrated artist
Thank you!!!!!
what a talented reptilian folk singer
Lmao
I just shared this on my facebook page, and I think I will give it a shout out during one of my videos on my channel, this is priceless....you really get a sense of both Johnny and June....
Oh! Life comes back to me. My favorite Record along with Simon and Garfunkel. If you. Can find the z record Reflections in a Crystal Wind you will find more, different, but similar songs. Pete was a gift to the American People. Richard was fabulous and taken far too soon.MIMI NEEDED HIM
Excellent. Made me uplifted to hear the story from this man. Maree from new Zealand
tremendous performance by mimi & richard !
3:00 Such a powerful and sorrowful sentence.
My favorite video on UA-cam. RIP Richard and Mimi. You two were the greatest musical duo ever. I still can't believe how randomly and how early Richard was taken away from us. Richard, you were the greatest natural musician to have ever lived. Incredible voice. Born to sing.
22:23
I never thought i’d see the day when pete Seeger and June Carter and Johnny cash would collaborate
And lonesome valley!!
Beautiful Little Sadie

I was so fortunate to meet both Mimi and Richard when they came over to Cynthia Williams home right after their (1965) concert at Big Sur. Richard was kind enough to let me hold and play his dulcimer, but it was Mimi who held everyone's attention. She was just lovely, positively glowing. It was clear how happy and in love she was. To my young self she seemed like an angel. And those around her basked in her glow. That is how I'll always remember that remarkable young woman. I talked with Pete years later at Clearwater about her, and that is how he said he remembered her as well. Rest In Peace Mimi, R.I.P. Richard and R.I.P. Pete. We wish you all could have stayed with us longer.
Thank you so much for sharing your remembrance of one of the great couples of our time. Richard’s talent is obvious but Mimi’s is more subtle but just as important. Their attraction to each other is evident in their performances. Mimi’s guitar accompaniment speaks for itself and the smiles say so much about their love for each othe😮r. Mimi would carry on a few solo albums and one with Tom Jan’s titled “Take Heart” that is definitely worth a listen. She also was a big part of the Bread and Roses Festival before her unfortunate passing.
I cannot believe the horrible way in which both, Richard and Mimi, died. Both also died very young.
Great post. Thank you
Thank you

Were you paid to make that comment? I notice lots of these fake channels with no content except one comment designed to demean Buffy St. Marie. What a cheap shot. It's ugly. Sharp dress doesnt matter. No matter what has been taken from you. Or given.
Das Kinderlied mit den Kleinen ist ja voll süß. So hat man sich früher noch mit den Kleinen beschäftigt.
