Fixing my Mac Mini Desk Setup
It has been forever but the main desk setup is looking great again! This is a detailed overview of before and after, cleaning, and ideas along the way. While I create and use other setups, typically with old equipment, my main Mac Mini setup has been lacking for a long time. This refresh has been amazing so far, so many small quality of life improvements certainly go a long way. Especially for a setup where you can spend a long time at while editing. It was a long project, but I'm really glad with how it turned out! Hopefully you guys enjoy and maybe even get some ideas for setups of your own!

Working on the Power Mac G5!
Переглядів 152Місяць тому
It's time to finally work on the G5! It's actually clean and better than ever, it has a real hard drive installed now! 3TB sounds insane for a 2004 Mac but it means that the possibilities are endless, especially considering how old apps/games take up very little space compared to modern software. The Y2K setup is improving everyday, and this makes it even better! Cleaning up the Cinema Display!...

    I really should start dusting my stuff more often. Like, my setup is prettey optimised. There's just a bunch of extra clutter on top, so you wouldn't notice it. I think it turned out prettey nicely at the end.

    • @TheOriginalCollectorA1303
      @TheOriginalCollectorA1303 4 дні тому

      Dust gets on pretty much everything. The old layout didn’t help either. Removing the extra clutter that has a dedicated spot elsewhere really makes a big difference! I’m really glad with how everything turned out, the small improvements are great, it feels like an actual setup again!

    • @petint
      @petint 4 дні тому

      @@TheOriginalCollectorA1303 Yeah, having clutter makes cleaning really difficult. I can barely see my own desk, so I basically can't clean it unless I first remove everything from it, but I can't put it anywhere. Well, I could put it on my bed, but i kinda need that for you know, sleeping. So everything from there just ends up on the floor, then random cardboard boxes. And that's when I lose my stuff.

    • @TheOriginalCollectorA1303
      @TheOriginalCollectorA1303 4 дні тому

      It’s easy to use the desk as a storage spot, but not so easy to actually clean it up once it’s cluttered. Definitely worth it though, and I am not going to do that again. It’s nice to have space to work with and then put everything away when needed. Seems like the best thing to do is either remove everything and organize it in one day or do it in small sections.

    Might be able to score a non-working one and frankenmac the two together. I will forever remember the G5 is the most disappointing Mac I ever owned. It wasn't bad just.... was so apparent that x86 was faster towards the end of the G5 cycle. Also, you wedge in more HDDs, I just stacked 3rd and 4th drive in the PCI chamber like a mad man.

    • @TheOriginalCollectorA1303
      @TheOriginalCollectorA1303 8 днів тому

      It would be nice to have a good condition case, but I don’t mind it too much considering it actually works. Plus I’ve already disassembled and cleaned it up as much as I’ve been able to. I might do something like that someday but I’ve got a lot of projects I still need to get to. The G5 is an interesting machine, it’s cool to use but performance wise, even early intel machines can do everything and more. I will say that Leopard feels completely different to use on this compared to my PowerBook G4. The HDD storage is also pretty funny considering the size of the case. Then again storage isn’t a problem for me because of the HDD I’ve installed. But yeah, there is space available for more drives if you really wanted to add more than 2.

    Love the TV, but it was a lousy video of it. 1) balance ambient light, so we can actually see the TV when it is on, 2) no vertical video on a big horizontal TV. I feel it looks look, but it is not visible.

    • @TheOriginalCollectorA1303
      @TheOriginalCollectorA1303 18 днів тому

      Well it is a UA-cam short so it has to be vertical. Secondly this is a pretty old video and I’ve been trying to improve. Newer videos are definitely better than this. I do have a full video of this TV but again it is older and I would like to cover this TV more in the future.

Unfortunately, my original power supply died in the G4, and I'm using a hacked ATX power supply in it right now, so I can't power the Cinema display from it. @@haramaschabrasir8662 could be 2003 then. It still works. The setup is gorgeous albeit very heavy. I even bought some cable that let me hook up the monitor to a regular PC DB15 (or DB9) video port the graphics cards had back then. (Dviator or something it was called) Apple made some really beautifully thought out computers and monitors and keyboards. The one button mice however was a bit of a miss imo

    Nice 20 inch, but what's the use of old mac other than filming UA-cam?

    • @TheOriginalCollectorA1303
      @TheOriginalCollectorA1303 2 місяці тому

      It’s obviously no replacement for modern hardware, but I do like using older systems like this. It’s cool to use old versions of OS X, or also old PCs with different versions of Windows. Lots of old software exist for these Macs and I want to use them more. I already use Mac OS Lion for iTunes alongside old iPods and other iDevices and that’s considered obsolete. But it still works great!

      I unfortunately don’t have a VU setup, my Hi-Fi setup isn’t ideal at the moment either. Same goes for software side of things and I have a lot of projects currently.

The setup is looking really cool but there’s so much more I can’t wait to do! That’ll be fun, iPods alongside old Macs are great! Good luck with that, there’s also been a lot of development with software to keep old Macs going, not to mention all the old software/games that still works great even today!

      Many of these HandyCams and similar cameras/accessories are getting older but you can still find deals. Plus they still make new accessories like the charger and even batteries (may depend on your model). It can be harder to find them unlike before, but the same can also be said for something like old computers or CRTs.

    Hey guys, first I just want to say that this took a while to make (if it wasn’t obvious from the runtime) and I think that it turned out well for my first movie length video. Up until this point, the iPhone and iPod collection video had the longest runtime at 53:34 (not even an hour). Recording was done in multiple parts but I now know that it really helps out to film in a shorter amount of time. Basically have less of a gap in between filming, at the very least it helps me out with the timeline of events. Editing also took a while and with what I want to improve in terms of filming, it should make editing and in turn the video much more refined. That being said, I wasn’t even expecting this to be an hour long, let alone an hour and 30 minutes! It’s been a fun challenge though and hopefully longer videos will continue! Thanks for staying with me, hopefully you enjoy watching this awesome iTunes Setup continue to evolve! This is only the start, more cool things to come! Also, I know that this is more of a late 2000s/early 2010s setup with the MacBook, but in terms of the G5 area, it is one step closer to having a modern futuristic Y2K era setup.
