Dune Imperium UPRISING Review: Better Than the Original, or Just Different?
In November of 2023, Dire Wolf Digital released Dune Imperium: Uprising, a bizarre hybrid of a board game that is definitely a remake of Dune Imperium, but also still an expansion for it… at the same time? In this video, we’re primarily reviewing it as a second edition of sorts, a Dune Imperium the Sequel, if you will, or 'The Sandworms Strike Back.'
What kinds of changes does Uprising bring to the table? Is it actually so good that it has dethroned the original as the first box to buy in this beloved series? Will anyone ever be able to sculpt a sandworm that doesn’t look naughty? Jarom will do his best to answer all these questions but the last, as we already know the answer to that one….
Thanks for watching! :)

He just wants to clutch Palpatine for a moment, then slip him i...

Do you feel like it is one or the other or better to get both Dune games?
yo that intro music gave me chills. great video!
Right??? It's an original by @GabeSchaffer he did for the channel, his stuff is 🔥
Great review very entertaining
Thanks! 🙌🙌
Great review I could not agree more with your assessment.
I found this video to be entertaining and informative. Thank you for sharing the differences between Imperium and Uprising
Thanks for giving it a watch!! ❤️
"Bee Gee Chats" 😂😂😂
These videos are so good!
Thanks! ❤️
F in the chat for the second :/
I play with 3d terrain
Very cool!
Nice review, subscribed. Just placed an order for this game, can't wait.
Amazing!! When you play, may your opponent's knife chip and shatter. 😝 let us know how it goes!
The Imperial Player is NOT a "GM".
Great review, I agree that it’s complicated for sure but the theme is likeable
Because I’ve played the game; I became interested in reading the book. The game was so fun and I loved finding the connections between the book and the game. I’d love to play the game again!
That's so cool!
May I know where this bridge troll who takes souls is located? I've only met one who takes children, but I don't own one.
Oof, that's a tricky question, he moves around a lot. I hear he likes suspension bridges and the sorrow-laden dreams of poets, so those might be good places to start looking. Apparently he's willing to give 'em away if you manage to find him and beat him at mancala (he's a big mancala guy)
Love the minis. Sometimes i wish they were sold separately as im not always interested in playing the game hahaha😅
The minis here are quite impressive, for sure-- the sculpts are off the chain. CMON adores their plastic!
Great review
Thanks! 🙌
@@JumbleAndGaff new subscriber btw I was contemplating this game for a while and found your review to be straight to the point and very articulate
Nice run through.. Did your copy include retail components or deluxe content??
Great question! Everything in this video is from the retail edition.
I'm sold... I found it for $110. Plus I just watched Dune 2.. I'm hyped... now all I need is that one friend!!
I've played the game and thought it engaging. As a fan of the recent movies, this was like rewatching them only more interactively.
Seems like it might be a heavy lift for anyone not too enamored by the theme. I'll wait for the Krusty Krab/Chum Bucket retheme.
Ok, I know this is a joke... but I would lowkey buy that 😂😂😂 only if it included a glow-in-the-dark Davy Jones mini, of course.
As always... great video. Too bad the rules are a long teach. That will probably keep it from purchasing it.
13:49 Manipulating the food dice was actually one of my favorite parts of Wingspan! I gave it an 8/10. It's a decent tableau engine builder. The art carries the game in my view, it'd be a 7/10 without it. Wyrmspan doesn't seem to make any meaningful changes or improvements.
Glad you like the food dice! :) they and I have had a rather.... tempestuous sort of relationship 😂
Just found you, subbed in first 30 seconds! Love the video and your wit, looking forward to watching many more of your vids
🙌 🙌
Great review. I live in Argentina and sadly the game didnt get to here. I was able to buy the 2 player starter so i can play with my gf and some friends, but i dont think i will be expanding my decks at least foir a while. I hope someday they bring the game here, or at least the prices to import it get lower..
Glad to hear you enjoyed the video, and I hope Argentina gets more stock soon 🤞
Nice review comparing these games! I own and have played both of these games and you are spot on. I actually find that the puzzle in Wyrmspan to be a little trickier because of the emphasis on sequencing your actions - caves, resources, eggs, dragons. You notnonly have to have the right components, but also have them in the right quantity and in the right order. The extra turn required to place caves before dragons makes the game tighter. Thank you for your content!! Thank you!
I agree about the eggs being problematic for the theme. In Wingspan, I can at least make up stories--we are trading eggs we have for eggs we want or we are removing eggs of some species to make sure there's room in our sanctuary for other species. Wyrmspan falls apart quite a bit in the theme for me, my favorite ridiculousness being that apparently all the cool hatchlings (well, *all* the hatchlings) are cosplaying mammals (they all need milk). I actually prefer to teach Wingspan because I can use the theme to help the actions make sense. Unlike you, apparently, I find that in Wyrmspan I need caves, resources, and dragons all the same time--you can put off getting resources for a while by getting cave cards, but then you really can't. It feels like you need caves and resources to entice dragons, but you can't get efficient at getting those things until you get dragons. Also, you can still have personal goals, but they're harder to remember because they're on the guild board or on your dragons as end-of-game powers. And maybe you don't lose cards to get starting resources, but you still have to lose starting dragons to keep caves or vice versa. I also prefer Wingspan because there are so many strategies that can work, whereas in Wyrmspan it feels like you' can't really specialize (it costs extra to explore the same cave over and over). It seems like you need at least 2 dragons in every cave, and you'll want a hatchling to take advantage of whatever benefit you get from filling a cave, and you also want at least one dragon with space for lots of eggs in case you get that opportunity. It feels all about trying to grab some of everything to me.
You look kinda like Adam Jones.
🤘🤘
Can you tell use about Far Shore?
We've got a Farshore video in the works! :) Should have it out in the next few weeks.
Thanks for taking the time to thoroughly go through the game and share your thoughts on it!
Not knowing who is winning is a feature not a bug. This is not a game to be concerned about winning the whole time. This is a game to casually enjoy a puzzle while chatting with friends, and then enjoy the surprise of seeing how everyone did at the end.
I agree, also the statement "you would have scored those 2 points to make up the difference" why didnt you score that in the first place anyways??
Lovely perspective! Thanks for sharing it. 😊
Wyrmverna
😂
I'm just not sure that this game makes sense to play (Context I have only played wingspan). A gathering of people is supposed to be interactive, and there is absolutely nothing interactive about these games. Essentially wingspan/wyrmspan are a group of people playing solo games with maybe the occasional brush of shoulders. I would think that if people over the age of thirty had heard of discord or something to hang out and chat while doing your own thing the games would never sell. (I know, playing board games is an excuse for an alcoholic beverage but still kinda want my game to be actually multiplayer)
Rereading this it seems like I hate the game but rather I am just more confused why it became popular. I myself am not opposed to talking over a board game.
You really think that there is no value in being physically together? Do you think all restaurants will soon go out of business?
There are many like my wife who really don't like 'take that' in games. I see it in content creators (Rahdo, Garrett's Games and Geekiness, etc.) and in comments as well as with some friends. For those people, the puzzle and engine building are the fun of the game along with the social aspect of getting together. There are games for them just as there are games for people who love to attack each other. I enjoy both differing experiences. Because of the success of these game and others (Castles of Burgundy, Patchwork, 7 Wonders, etc.) plus co-op games (Pandemic, etc.) , I would suggest that there are more gamers like my wife than you might think.
Thanks for sharing! @samirjafri191 really summed it up beautifully, but this is an irresistible conversation topic for me, so... I think a lot of people find a lot of joy in gathering and engaging in the same activity, even if (for many, perhaps *especially* if) that activity doesn't bring them into direct conflict with one another. I personally tend to get competitive about Wingspan-- hence my gripe about score tracking-- but many people aren't concerned about that at all; they just enjoy sharing one another's company for an hour or two, and I think that's lovely.
Great review! imo Wingspan with all the expansions is the better game but for a base game vs base game experience wyrmspan takes the lead. It does feel wrong to tell new players you need to buy all the expensive expansions to fully enjoy wingspan though
Those expansions do add up rather quickly 🤔
I know the eggs are a weird function, apparently in both games, but they are so dang cute a game piece that I admit I give them slack 😂 But also good to know! I’ll have to give Wyrmspan a go.
Mysterious they might be, but they ARE adorable AND edible (looking), and that cannot be refuted.
Can’t believe you got a real dragon to endorse the video- very well done. I hope he was paid handsomely for his cameo. Great review!
I'm surprised we got him on board with the project, tbh, actors of his stature are rare and in endless demand.
My guy! What a blue stud 😎
Fantastic video guys! As to how to fix the whole point thing, I’d say that using counters could work. After each players turn, they add however many points they earned on that turn to the counter, then keeping track of their points throughout the game :)
Great review! I totally agree with you about the points and am bummed they didn’t fix that.
I hope to play Wyrmspan so I can see which one I like better… I do like to play Windspan. Thanks for the review!
Well explained and entertaining. (Not sure why your video looks flat and relatively colourless, unless that was your design decision.)
This was my first video after upgrading my camera-- still figuring out the 'white balance' part of editing. 😂 with any luck, in the next one, I'll look a lot less like I spent the last few years in an iceberg 🤣 thanks so much for giving it a watch/listen notwithstanding!
Still play it, still love it. Use a lot of home brew for characters/vehicles that never got made.
This video really is the perfect review: funny, entertaining, informative, passionate & objective. More SWM content, please!! 👏👏👏
Fantastic game! Still playing it regularly in 2024!! 🎉😊
Yeah we definitely need more music videos from you, I consider myself beautifully serenaded. A ripe contrast to the critical review at the end; I appreciate the honesty! Not every game is great, it’s nice to not have to find out by buying it.
Love the goblin and his helper 😂 good to have as a heads up for the social dynamic around this game, maybe good for a couple people but not a group that you’re simultaneously wanting to play games and chat
Memorizing requirements, timers, and cutthroat play? Sounds like my kind of game 😂
Hm I don’t know if your review is reliable as a cat owner 🤔 I might have to find out for myself as a dog owner
