I am continually amazed that people are surprised that fish eat fish..we all now know that apples come from the supermarket.

Are people really that stupid, every bit of water inhabited by fish live in a fish eat fish world.

After you mashed the fish, the first ones to quickly come around and start eating are damselfish (Pomacentridae), which are small-mouthed plankton feeders. After the second mashing, more small-mouthed feeders appeared--goatfish (Mullidae), butterfly fish (Chaetodontidae), surgeonfish (Acanthuridae). Not at all a surprising result.

A clip of this made it to MSN News, and they're posting it like people are surprised that fish...eat fish. 🙄 Lol

Maybe the fish don't bit at first because they're making sure its safe. Think about it, salmon are large predatory fish. Imagine if you were in the forest and you saw a fresh bear carcass lying on a trail. Even if you were starving, you wouldn't think, "ooh look someone left me lunch". You'd be like, "holy SHIT something here is big enough to kill a bear!!" That's basically what the fish are thinking about the salmon

Long time Panhandle resident here, kinda out of touch with these matters for a long time now. But I can remember when mullet were typically large fish. These things change, and mostly not for the better.

I have never tried “cooter meat”. That’s what we call the snapping turtle in NC anyway. I use to buy a pack of stew beef and go to one of the local ponds and wait for them to surface. I would chunk a piece of the meat out to them and they would eat it everytime. I would then go to a particular area of my town and give it to someone that liked to eat them. So, I knew a lot of people who would eat them. They always said that there is 7 different favors of meat to one. Not sure what the flavors are. But the ones that did eat them loved it. They also say until you learn how to clean one it can be difficult. There aren’t many of the old timers though. So I believe it’s become less of a thing.
