I don’t hate e-bikes at all and see the upside of them. For me riding standard bikes is my meds and pushing hard on long climbs is the optimal med. To each their own. Just don’t go 20 mph on steep climbs without pedaling and then not announcing yourself 😆

Why I'll never buy an E-bike. - No interest in forking over hard-earned cash on grossly marked-up products, especially how much it'll cost to replace limited lifespan batteries. - No aversion to any type of terrain on my XC rides, thus don't need or desire assistance for harder sections. - No interest in riding with others, I prefer just me and nature. - No interest in distance increases via mechanical assistance. My fitness levels determines the distance, thus if I want to ride further, I joyfully dedicate myself to my well-being...weight shedding, diet, consistent exercise, etc.

I got my ebike from KTM last week, i just wanted some MTB, nothing for some hardcore trails, i just wanted to go back, because i havent driven a single time in 5 years. And i never had any MTBs. I always loved to ride a bike, but even when i did 150km+ in one day, there was not many days i was riding. 2 weeks ago out of nowhere i decided that i will try MTB, because i moved half year ago, and i live now near Alps in Austria. After 5 years, my first ride was only 30km, but when i felt the pain after finishing my first ride, i was so fucking happy, that finally i made a good choice. Next day 50km, now i am looking at map where are the higher mountains, i rode more in 5 days than i rode in 1 month in my prime. So i agree, ebikes are challenging, because u feel pretty confident. When u want to push, u can just turn eco mode, or completely turn off the engine, but if u feel like u wanna die, and u are out of nowhere in middele of mountains and the storm is coming, u can press the turbo mode and escape at the speed of light, without stress.I felt a bit bad about the fact that others ride regular bikes and I ride an electric bike. A friend from work also tried to trick me a bit by saying that the bike rides for me. That I should ride regular bike, not a emtb. The funniest thing is that the guy doesn't even have a bike, he only drinks beer and comments. Apart from the fact that if I were riding a normal bike, after 1/5 of the route I would probably have had enough and would have given up then getting frustrated and probably putting the bike in the "closet". That's why I don't feel any shame now. Because the most common commenters are people who watch sports from the couch. Sometimes, after the route, I stopped by a pub to eat and drink something, and at first I was afraid to go to such places, because everyone had normal bikes, and I felt like some retarded person. Meanwhile, every time I park my bike, there are always a few people who ask a million questions about the frame, why such grips, and they give me more details about tuning my bike, like for examle, replacing the brakes with XT ones from Shimano, because they are better. Athletes have no problem with this, and do you know why? Because it's better to have an ebike and ride it than to have a regular bike that has been gathering dust in the basement for a decade. There is nothing to be afraid of, nothing to be ashamed of. Movement is a movement, and the calories I compared from 5 years ago to those I burn now are astronomical, verticality is a different pair of shoes. I'm a bit overweight, but because I pedal non-stop every day, instead of craving sweets, I fill my belly with water, which has become my drink of the gods. Now i don't like riding, i fucking love it.

My e-bike [ARI Timp Peak] allows me to control my heart rate range. I can stay in which ever zone i want to maximize my workout. If i want I can do interval training just by adjusting the amount of support the bike gives me. I'll frequently switch off the support and hammer to spike my HR to zone 5, then pop on the support relax my pace and bring heart rate down to zone 3. Ive lost weight and gained endurance since getting it. Honestly the best MTB i've ever owned.

I peg my derestricted class 1 e-bike in turbo mode in all kinds of terrain and max out my heart rate with timed “moto” runs. People who think people are “cheating” on an e-bike have no idea the speeds you through trees and terrain takes a bit more skill, as well..

Thanks for sharing your perspective. I rode an emtb for a ride and had so much fun that my wife and I sold our bikes and bought Trek Rails. We now ride more frequently than we ever had and enjoy more of the downhill flow that we love. People on trails in every state try to be bitter about emtb’s, just had a Karen tell us off the other day for no reason at all. Other bikers think you have to mountain bike the way they think you should. It’s truly the only annoying thing about riding an emtb.

If you refuse to understand the resistance to accepting ebikes on mountain trails, then surely you will approve the use of electric dirt bikes on those same trails, no? All the arguments for ebikes can be used for electric dirt bikes. If, however, you don't understand why some people hesitate to embrace ebikes on trails, but you remain against the acceptance of electric dirt bikes, then I challenge you to convince me that your stand is not hypocritical.

Around here the ebike issue is speeding on mixed use trails. The ebike tech itself is not the issue - it is unskilled riders cruising at 25 on trails with kids and dogs. Some speed limit enforcement would take care of it.

It’s sad to see that people can be commenting so much disrespect to people just for opting out/deciding to purchase themselves an e-bike. It actually disappoints me that such people can even exist - in a world where cyclists have been the most disliked commuters on wheels on shared roads since before my time. I’m 29 years old, and I ride my e-bike (Merida E-160) literally any and every chance I can find. I honestly love it. I’ve averaged about 10km/day since the day I got it, and I personally would rather walk - than ride anything that isn’t electric. Only posting this comment because people can’t keep their dumb-shit, negative comments to themselves by wasting their endless-supply of energy to say negative things to people in the comments (bigger, older, whatever - doesn’t matter!) - just for sharing their positive change to their lifestyle to anyone who takes read it. For anyone reading this who has/is deciding to go get themselves an e-bike, but is now doubting their decision because they don’t want hate or shame from shit examples of good people just for doing so - please don’t let these clowns stop you, because it’s an awesome thing that they do exist. . I can say from my personal experience, that whilst these clowns are out there (doing ‘real man shit’ & using all their ‘man-power’ riding their ‘real bikes’ - guys like me kick back in their house, & use most of my energy riding their wife/leaving a proper impression, (not to mention getting it all done with enough time for their hobby-supportive wife to unwind sufficiently & greet their ‘big-man’ when he finally gets home after another “exhausting session” of “going hard with the boys” + making a point to inform her (before she even asks/tries anything), that “he can’t follow through with the promise he made her before he went for a ‘ride’” because “he’s too tired”, just to be re-assured that “it’s okay, honey - I understand &/or she claims to have a low sex-drive ( whilst she was actually electric ) 😂 Clowns like this would rather spend the money they saved (by not going electric) on something better for them ( like a divorce ) 🥲 Moral of my story is - my e-bike choice has been 💣 People who ride mountain bikes & just recklessly show hate towards e-mtb riders - tend to be the real losers 🤡 Don’t worry about them, you’ll get around them 😉

E bikes are enticing so many people onto bikes and getting them active and improving the fitness and mental wellbeing for all those hitting the trails. They are a game changer and I am yet to hear of any rider getting off an e bike and not having an ear to ear grin and saying how much they enjoyed a whole new riding experience and saying how much of a buzz it is. Whether you're new to mtb or been riding for decades it takes the sport to a new level

E-bikes are not always allowed on trails due two 3 factors. 1) their ability to motivate riders to go faster. This translates to overall faster speeds. 2) The overall heavier weight of most e-bikes even the SL ones although this could change in the future. 3) When 1&2 are combined the level of injuries are bound to increase. In addition some e-bikes are not pedal assist and are altered to go faster. I have talked with many e-bike riders and they cite the same motivational incentives that you do. Bottom line is that e-bike riders now have a reason to exercise more. Please be safe, that is ALL riders, and maybe e-bikes will not get banned.
