    This is not cheesy at all. You are deploying very high technoloy and you obviously neutralized the technology level of the Guardian with it. This is completely thematic and should not be considered "cheese"!

      While i agree you can see it like deploying a high tech to neutralize the Guardian, this tactic _only_ works on the Guardian. When you do this to a monster guarding a system or an AI-player, throwing Stasis onto the last ship will not win you the battle.

    What are the conditions? Is it a hard turn limit, or one that starts when one side can't fight back?

      combat duration is capped. if one party is incapacitated by Stasis Field at end of combat, it loses.

    i once cheesed the entire Antares fight with a single battleship using Stasis Field and a single heavy Death Ray. I had to put 8 separate Stasis Fields though to hit all the Antares ships in a single turn. specials:: battle pods, phasing cloak, auto repair unit (to make up for reflection field rebounds)

    okay but how do you get the buildings afterwards? there's no option to use a troop transport once the population of the enemy planet is dead.

      sure there is, you can invade colonies with 0 pop. only in 1.50 patch ofc. not in the classic versions of the game.

    Is 1.50 Normal/Improved meant to be more difficult? Because playing patch .24 on Average difficulty I got some really weird results. Snowballing AIs that wiped out the galaxy except me, AIs were spying like crazy but my spies were completely useless even as the Darloks, multiple / unending space worm attacks that happened over and over. Also not sure if you care but that weird banding you're getting in the game is caused by DOSBox's scaler, looks like TV2x, but those scalers need to work on a resolution that are a multiple of the original's vertical resolution. Under the SDL section where it says fullscreen set it to something like 1920x1200 or 1600x1200. I'm on a 2K monitor and I set it to 2560x1400 with Aspect set to true and you get a nice consistent scanline effect and no banding.

      1.50 Standard is about the same as classic. 1.50 Improved is slightly more difficult mainly because the AI makes better ship designs ad some AI have better extra picks on Hard/Impossible. Dunno about your results. On Average diff, AI tends to not wipe you out early, even if they have the chance. on Hard/Imp, AI is more aggresive geerally speaking. But results may differ from game to game. About scaler, is use that hq3x scaler, which gives very nice results overall but also produces occasional screen garbage. I am taking that for granted. Lastly, I am recording with 10frames per second due to my 14 year old PC, this low frame rate exacerbates the effect for UA-cam...

      @@moo2mod yeah I should have been more specific, I noticed that 1.5 standard is more tuned to play like a normal game of MOO2 and had a really good time with it. But playing several games on average difficulty in Improved mod the AI was cranked up to 11. iirc one of them unlocked titans very early in the game, producing ships/transports at a rate that beggared belief, and stealing techs willy nilly despite being the Darlocks in at least one game. It was wild (but also frustrating lol). I'll have to try it again on an easier difficulty haha

    1:24 - Ok, they have additional bonuses. That partly answers my question from the first video. But you should still be 25% better and not just 15%. Maybe the remaining discrepancy is their leader bonus...

    29:19 - Why do the humans only have 15% less beam defence (same drive and ship type as far as I can see)? Aren't you supposed to have +50 with the Alkaris?

      Humans also have a defense bonus of +25. Also the have a leader, Slith, who provides another +10.

    When the other player went for robominers quickly in an earlier video, I thought this could get interesting, but the fleet design here reveals it's a rather inexperienced human player. Would be interesting to see a match with another real expert some time.

    It's a minor point, but shouldn't the 2nd disruptor attack do 468 damage instead of 432? Heavy mount disruptor: 60 minus Class V shield 55 minus hard shields 52 times 3 (AF) + 50% (High-energy focus) x 2 (structural analyzer) --> 52 x3 x1.5 x2 = 432

      first shot had 125 into shields + 182 = 307. 2nd shot that 125 is also doubled since shield is down. 307 + 125 = 432, which is exactly the listed damage of 2nd shot. hef goes over base, so beam damage potential is 40 +20(Hv) +20(hef) = 80. 80-5-3 = 72 72 *3(auto fire) = 216 216 *2(analyzer) = 432

      @@moo2mod Oh, so the HEF's +50% is added on the base 40 damage of the disruptor, not on the 60 of the heavy mount disruptor. I also added the HEF on the damage after deducting the shields, so that was a mistake, too, on my part. Then it all makes sense. Thanks for the explanation. Thanks for the interesting videos.     Creative for 8 is still too cheap imho (it was only 6 in the original game). It's still a bit overpowered. I would give it 10 points. Or ideally, would mod the game as follows: Every race can research every tech, but has to pay the research points twice if they wish to research two techs in one category. That would remove hard choices like missile base vs. automated factories. Then, Creative could be lowered to 4 or 5 points.

      finishing the ship with money means that the production of the current turn can already be used for the next build project, speeding up production.

    Could you do it with one or two less if they had fast missile racks? You could also kill off the shield with self-destruct and a subspace teleporter in turn 1, not sure if that would help, but the other EMG missiles could also pass the shields in turn 1, though there would probably have to be some more rounds of miniaturization in order to still fit 2 merculite MV missiles on each ships.

      'minimum guardian fleet' not only means a minimum number of ships, but also a minimum technology level. remember, we're attacking the guardian at turn 113 here, so sub-space teleporter would take a whole lotta extra turns to get it. fast missile racks would certainly increase the turn count but wouldn't reduce this fleet any more, since we cannot reach the guardian in turn 1, with fmr we wouldn't fire missiles in the first round and had to wait until 2nd round but by then 2 dd's are already destroyed and 1 is targeted by plasma torpedo, so only 3 could move up to guardian, just like in this video, except the Guardian wouldnt have shield damage yet from round1 missile fire.

      yes, for this first test i wanted to stick with 4 players. depending planet-quality of that 4th planet (it will be the worst one always ofc), it may or not may efficient to build that 4th c.base. for example if you get a low-g ultra poor, probably go for freighter, if you get medium barren, go for that planet first before freighter

    A long time ago, I played a game (low difficulty) in a huge galaxy (my race was tele-omni-crea that how i was playing at this time) : The first random event was a eel, for the sakkra (hehe :P) their didn't destry it and later in the game there was a dozen systems blockaded by eels :D

      the maximum number of eels at any one time is 4. if a 5th is born, it is devoured by its mother. :) this is gonna be moddable in the next patch, so you can mod >4 eels.

    how do you get to such high tech and number of ships ? my games (vanilla) always end well before with only a dozen ships or so in battles

      what can i say, just let the game run longer to get higher tech and more ships. also this is not a 'regular' game, it was created specifically to demonstrate new tactical combat mechanics.

    Back in the olden days when people used to organise tournaments and have a league website, someone beat some of the best players in the world on a tiny 8 player multiplayer game using a transdimensional telepathic race like this. They built an empty cruiser and every other player scrapped their star base, so they just flew around mind controlling them.

    Love doing an android rush! I can't bring myself to do tolerant or production race since the androids are tolerant and workers, and I like to go low g since they are immune to gravity too and most of our research pop is on the homeworld. Usually takes me to over turn 100 when starting on pre warp, will have to try regular start. Low g means you can't go repulsive but that can be good as you can trade for some techs and use research treaties. The AI will also trade you some very high tech for android worker even though I don't think they build them. Charismatic can be good to get more leaders to speed things up a bit if you get lucky. In one game I got the one who gives terraforming and the one who gives galactic unification. Huge bonus!

      i haven't compared it actually, but in this video we needed the fast missile racks, so it would take a little longer to get that tech.
