*_MAKE YOUR OWN BISCUITS & GRAVY_* Papa Grim's Badass Biscuits 2-1/2 c flour (cake flour preferred because the low protein content makes for more tender Biscuits) 1 T baking powder (NOT baking soda) 1/4 t baking soda (NOT baking powder) 1/2 t salt (can be cut in half) 1/3 c liquid fat (veg oil, melted lard, melted butter, or Drippins, etc) 3/4 c milk (slightly sour milk is OK) preheat oven to 450f blend all dry ingredients blend all wet ingredients mix wet into dry only enough to bring them together. DO NOT OVERMIX! drop fat golf balls with 2 spoons, or roll & cut (personally, i prefer drop Biscuits) bake 10 to 12 minutes ===== METRIC UNITS : 600 ml flour 15 ml baking powder 1.5 ml baking soda 3 ml salt 80 ml liquid fat 180 ml milk oven at 230c ===== FOR GRAVY : throw some seasoned loose pork breakfast sausage into a pan (for more Gravy, add a little extra Drippins/oil to the pan) cook it until it's about 2/3 done and break it into small bite-sized pieces slowly add flour to the pan until it coats all the meat bits and the pan is starting to think about drying up stir constantly until the flour starts losing it's "raw" smell and starts getting a light nutty aroma turn the heat down to LOW any oil+flour in the pan should be really thick, breaking up when stirred, but liquid when left alone start stirring constantly and begin adding cream and/or sweet milk until the sausage bits are just barely covered keep stirring keep stirring keep stirring some more as the Gravy starts to thicken, adjust the salt and pepper to your liking when you think that maybe you've added too much pepper, give it 4 more grinds keep stirring when the Gravy is nearly as thick as you want it, take it off the heat the Gravy will thicken just a bit more after it's off the stove ===== OPTIONS : during the cooking process, Gravy can be seasoned/augmented as you like it with things such as; red pepper flakes, garlic, chopped onion or onion powder, nutmeg, minced bacon, mace, chives or chopped green onion (for color), 5-spice powder... just use your imagination and do what makes you and yours happy. try it served with a couple of fried eggs over all. (a runny or creamy yolk that you can bust makes it real nice.) try serving with sides of stewed fruit (i like apples with a bit of cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg), sweet Grits (topped with butter, cream, and sugar), sliced raw tomatoes, or just about any other sweet or savory thing you might like with. this meal pairs nice with a BIG cup of black coffee, or strong breakfast tea. finish off the meal with a fat slab of cornbread smeared with butter and a bit of honey, sorghum, or molasses. top the Biscuits and Gravy with a little bit of grated cheese, but don't overdo it (use whatever cheese you like). Biscuits and Gravy is always better when eaten with friends and loved ones. ===== A NOTE ABOUT "DRIPPINS" : Drippins is the fat left in the pan after frying bacon or certain ham steaks. this fat is a prized kitchen ingredient that is used often in Southern kitchens. if it is used frequently, the jar of Drippins is kept near the stove for easy access. otherwise it is stored in the refrigerator for longer life. Drippins can be used (sparingly) like butter, to flavor cooked items, or as a condiment for things such as Grits, cooked veg, soups, stews, burgers, etc.

To answer your question, there are no windows on aircraft carriers or screen doors on submarines! Actually, there are a few port holes on most surface ships but most naval ships are there to execute a mission, not for crew comfort. My father was a Naval officer back in WWII on a heavy cruiser and they told them early on that the ship was built to be a stable gun platform, not for their comfort. If you tour a warship you'll see they weren't joking. There are several retired aircraft carriers that have been turned into museums, along with a number (maybe 5 or 6) of WWII era battleships. Touring them will give you an appreciation of the sort of dedication it takes to serve on their crew. Today's ships are fortunately much better than during WWII, but nobody will ever confuse them for luxury.

My dad was in the army and arrived in South Korea a month after this happened. He said it was still really tense and a lot of his fellow soldiers wanted to go to war because they felt that just chopping down the tree wasn't enough. In their eyes, 2 brothers in arm were killed and they weren't allowed to get revenge.

Yeah, biscuits in the U.S. are a type of quick bread similar to English scones but lighter and flakier. And what you all call biscuits we call cookies. The secret is to not overwork the dough. Unlike with some breads where you have to work the dough forever, with biscuits, you dont have to do that,Ingredients: all purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, butter, milk or buttermilk. Grits are a type of porridge with similar texture to polenta and similar taste too. It is made from ground corn. If i eat it I have to add a lot of butter and sugar.

The trick to making good sausage gravy is to use a breakfast sausage flavored with sage. Not sure if you guys have that type of sausage, we can get it in minced form just like hamburger. You can find it already in sausage casings, you would just need to take the casings off to cook the meat. Make a rue with the pan drippings from the sausage and a couple spoons of melted butter along with white flour. Brown the flour and add milk or cream with salt and lots of black pepper to taste. The biscuits are "similar" to scones, but much lighter and fluffier and more buttery, so if you can find a good recipe online, use it. Biscuits and gravy for an outsider may not look appetizing because you have never tasted it before. To those of us who have, we see a plate of utter heaven! You will have to try making them Kat....you can do it! Can't wait!!

Something to remember when visiting the U.S.: If you are eating something new, don't be afraid to ask your server what the most popular way of eating it is. Example: I've seen Brits come over here and order pancakes and then they just pick it up dry and eat it like a piece of bread when pancakes are so much more enjoyable by slathering them with butter and then pouring warm maple or fruit syrup over them. It's a totally different experience when eaten correctly. Don't be embarrassed to ask questions. Nobody will fault you for it.

12:00, My family has always put sugar and butter in grits, I don't understand when people say why not too. Grits are wonderful with butter and sugar. I don't think I could ever picture putting melted cheese on grits. My mother's side of my family came from the South around Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi and everyone I know they're also put sugar in grits. Even honey. Mixed with Bacon or sausage if you were a good kid.

And oh, eating raw beef, or ground beef isn’t unheard of, my dad and grandparents on his side. And uncles and what not. Did. They all served in WWII and before. On our side, Ben thought about half of German descent, which was a huge deal back then. They were Midwest/upper Midwest. And they would eat small bits of raw ground beef, seasoned with salt and pepper, garlic. Not all the time. But once in awhile. So it’s not unheard of, and won’t make you sick. Kit dangerous if handled correctly, which doesn’t take much, I’ve tried it, not bad, at all, never got sick and had many times over the years. Not for everyone. And not something I’d do a lot and regularly, as it’s not bad to me, but not great either.

Yeah. Hes a Canuck. He doesn’t know actual America, he only knows America lite. That being said I will say. As a half native, who wasn’t born on and doesn’t live on a reservation, full up, white/American upbringing, not that I’m proud or dissatisfied in that. Just a fact, I hear never personally know a single American to eat fried chicken on Christmas granted I’m not against that, as homemade fried chicken is amazing and one of the best foods to ever eat, of not the best for you. But I absolutely love those silly Japanese we stomped onto the ground in the 40’s that, that new generation of Japanese boomers thinks so/sold it, as one of the biggest promos of Americana, ever. You’re all welcome for anime, yeah the means to obtain that is messed up, but you’re welcome.

Kat, it's really easy...fry & break up the sausage. Remove the sausage and using the drippings, add flour, milk, salt & pepper and butter. Simmer until thick but stir often so it doesn't stick. Add the sausage back in to keep warm until the biscuits are done. You can add onion & garlic. Biscuits are just as easy, too. it just depends on the recipe but self-rising flour, butter and buttermilk. There are other buttermilk recipes that have more ingredients because they use all-purpose flour. You should really give it a try and if you love it THEN you can experiment with the recipe.

Contrary to what was said before - it does matter what type of sausage is used. I had some up north and they used Italian sausage - it was not good. I grind my own and here is what I mix into mine: 1000 g of pork shoulder - plain ground pork is OK but you really need at least 80/20 (or better yet 75/25) pork to fat ratio especially to make gravy. 11g kosher salt, 1.3g black pepper, 0.9g dried parsley, 0.4g dried sage, 0.5g dried thyme, 1.3g ground coriander, 1 g cayenne (this is a mild heat level - it's ok for kids at this level but go up if you want it hotter, 4.4g of MSG. This is scalable ( I usually make up two kilos at a time then I partition it out into enough for a breakfast for the wife and myself, vacuum bag it, and throw it in our meat freezer) you can scale they seasonings to whatever amount of pork shoulder you use. There are plenty of good, easy buttermilk biscuit recipes on the net and they are simple to make and don't take that much time to make them from scratch. Tips for making fluffy tall biscuits: Use a glass casserole and squeeze the biscuits in there - make sure they touch each other as well as the wall of the casserole - this forces them to fluff up while baking. Also - bake them at 325F - not 400 like most recipes say - this will make them soft instead of a hockey puck. Baking time increases by 6-10 minutes depending on the oven but it's well worth it.

Also been to and around those areas, I live in southern Idaho no. And yeah that is a beautiful and super cool area. So is yellow stone, we got west Yellowstone, here in Idaho. Yellow stone and Montana, Wyoming and Idaho should be on the list of places to go and see, if you are in our part of the world. You want cowboys and rodeos, we got them, you want the occasional big city experience we each got one apiece, haha, want some of the best national and state parks, we all got at least one of the top ten, in my opinion. Want country living/farming, friendly neighbors, we got that too. Want a decent job that provides a good living, depending on what you do/want to do. We got that too. This region is definitely not one to over look when visiting. And the high desert when spring hits and all the desert/mountain flowers bloom. A sight to see, also have huge regional humming birds and all the hiking/camping and out doors stuff you could ever want, the land to match. Oh, Bozeman is amazing in summer, with their music festival type deal on Main Street, food and vendors. Live music, the college, REI, outdoors store focused mainly on backpacking and high end, light gear. Their museum is great. Killer restaurants. Been a few times, need to go again as part of a larger vacation.

It wasn't the tree so much as the killing two Americans. To those Gold Star Families, The price paid was already too much and no way were we going to let NK get away with that.

Yellow stone and Montana, Wyoming and Idaho should be on the list of places to go and see, if you are in our part of the world.
